Crossing Delancey (1988)
Cute romantic comedy
The thing I liked most about this movie was the writing. There are parts in the film that are exceptional, such as when the guy tells Isabelle (the protagonist) a story about a friend and his hat. The story he tells is simple, but says so much about his character. I liked the conflict with Isabelle, as she decides whether she likes him or not, despite all his shortcomings (he works in a pickle store, he isn't an author).
You can understand why she would be interested in "the author" over him, seeing that she works in a bookstore.
What I didn't like about the film is that the two lead characters aren't stand-out performances. Especially the pickle guy, he says his lines in an amateur fashion.
If you like this movie (and it is good), then I recommend "Moonstruck".
Wuthering Heights (1992)
Awful
After watching the 1939 version of "Wuthering Heights", I was interested to see the modern 90s version. I had thought that Wuthering Heights was a romance--this film version lacks any sort of chemistry or romance. The romance is woodenly spoken in the occasional dialogue.
In comparison to the 1939 version that I saw, this version had a less interesting story, non-existent "romance" between Heathcliff and Cathy. I was also disappointed to see that Heathcliff was portrayed as a villain. To think that Heathcliff and Cathy are supposed to be in love is ludicrous, considering the amount of chemistry between Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche.
If you want to see a classic film, watch the 1939 version. If you like this 1992 version, you might be interested in Braveheart or Pride & Prejudice, which are both better-acted.
