Star Trek: Picard (2020)
It's good because it's different.
It is not the usual enterprise pace which is great and refreshing. I was very cautious going into season 2 because of all the negative reviews. But it was actually very entertaining with great story twists and surprises which are connected to the StarTrek universe. Story is much wider with some appearance from old Enterprise episodes.
Season 1 was good and picked up the story well, progressing it trough the episodes. Sure there were some lows in the story and weak episodes but that happens in every season of a TV show. Season 2 was very entertaining and had also some lows with "monsters" episode but still picked up a wider storyline and had great moments. Action, fun scenes and some emotional farewells.
Gotcha! (1985)
It's not a camera, it's NIKON.
Growing up in the eastern site of Europe and then in west Germany this movie captures definitely the twisted charm of this era. It might not be for everyone who grew up later and doesn't get the jokes of the Cold War and the iron curtain. The eastern German part is perfectly depicted with the suspicious people and their spies. Still there are many jokes and scene that don't need any knowledge of this time and make this movie an enjoyable comedy with lots of action and fun. So if the first 20-30 don't capture your attention then you are good to turn it off. That's how I measure movies anyway. Enjoy.
Prey (2022)
Finally a good Predator movie!
Objectively 8 stars but given 10 to raise the score. It is a really good action movie which surprises with Narus character being played excellent. I don't care how old she is as long as she gives a bad ass performance. What are the haters expecting? Another superhero lame fights? This movie has good fighting scenes and a gripping atmosphere from start to end. No time is wasted as it pulls through the story. Finally a worthy predator movie after many disappointments and the circle closes to Predator 2 at the end. Really wondering why the 80 characters are needed to finalise this review. That is a lot of typing.
The Son of Bigfoot (2017)
Not made for children and terrible.
The movie depicts everything in a negative way and is not made for children.
Telling her daughter that her dad is dead instead of telling her that he left or lives in another country is definitely not a smart choice.
The child runs away from home to get into a truck with a stranger. The Bullies are very angry and show violence.
The animals in lab are chained up for research. There is a guy in the lab who is set on fire and burns while he is alive. The child is in a bear trap and lying on the road while a truck is almost running her over. The truck driver is angry and there is swearing. The raccoon says stupid idiot. The son says you are a jerk to his father. The agents are abducting the child and are trying to kill him by burning the child. The child goes through near death experiences multiple times. We did not finish the movie as it was too awful too watch. But above is based on the first 45 minutes.
The Gray Man (2022)
Pulling up to a clear 7.5
This is a really good old fashioned bad ass action movie. Starts with action and it ends with action. A perfect evening full of entertainment. The
Story is simple and straight and the movie is not trying to be complicated or outsmart the viewer.
Just what you need if you are after good action with a sense of honour to do the right thing.
Yellowjackets (2021)
You are being programmed to eat a human.
Sick shows that uses a subtile mechanism to turn cannibalism into a positive and socially accepted light. You like your neighbour so much that you want to eat them, sure you have the green light to do so. How low and sick does it have to get until people realise how they are being played and manipulated? But some of them are just consuming every sick show that is thrown at them and they loved it after being previously hypnotised by other brutal and violent shows.
The Orville: Shadow Realms (2022)
This was a good sci-fi horror episode a La Aliens
I don't understand the negative reviews. After all the bright polished episodes which I do prefer as they are similar to Next generation, this was a trip down the horror alley. As a one off it was different and refreshing. Yes, the doctor background story is not really interesting but they needed a connection. I wish there was more action and fighting though. I mean if you show Aliens then fight them and don't try to talk them off your ship.
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Top action movies defining the genre once again.
The main reason this movie does not disappoint is the fact that the action is real! No CGI but pure adrenalin. It brings back the memories of movies where action scenes were actually filmed and not butchered through a computer. The story is just right and does not try to artificially step up or overdeliver. It's just the right sequel to a story that deserved to be told.
If you like action and thrill combined with good music and a story that is just right then this is the movie for you.
The Last Mimzy (2007)
Just a nice family movie
Between all the dark and negative movies these days, this movie was really enjoyable for the family.
A nice and simple to follow sci-fi story that is pleasant to watch even for the smaller ones in the family.
No curse words, no dead bodies, no drugs... easy to enjoy.
Star Trek: Picard: Stardust City Rag (2020)
Senseless violence and murder on Star Trek?
This is probably the worst episode even though Seven is back. But this one has just too much senseless and unjustified violence and dead bodies. This is not what we used to see on Star Trek. The eye scene is also too detailed and too long. I don't need to see this when I try to enjoy an episode. This is just disgusting and does not belong into Star Trek. This episode is defiantly rated R!
Nightmare Alley (2021)
Did I really watched 2.5 hours?
I had mixed feeling when I started to watch the movie and did not know anything about the plot. Also 2.5 hours seemed to be a very long time but no minute in this movie was wasted. It's just a great story told in a gripping way. It also teaches you a lessen of arrogance and greed. Don't want to give away too much but it leaves you little bit shocked and satisfied.
Extraction (2020)
Solid action movie that keeps the tension until the end.
This is a solid action movie with a badass hero who fights for the right reasons. It remembers of the good old times 80tie and 90ties where real man and woman fought for the good against evil villains and not superhero's in pyjamas. Action scenes are tense and very bloody but not too extreme to look away. Story is straight forward to keep the action on track and not to confuse the watcher.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
Highest rating...well deserved!
Not much to say...a powerful movie that you will never forget! Great story with a meaningful message and exceptional acting that deserves the highest rating.
Coming 2 America (2021)
Is this a parody or just a bad movie?
First the good part. We see all the familiar faces from the first movie which I really like and probably watched 20 times. Second, the story is a good idea but the execution fails short.
What is this side walking by Snipes and the dancing soldiers and then the singing and rap? Is this a musical? Looks like a bad Grammy performance. Some jokes seem to be funny made by king and Morgan freeman but the rest comes across like a parody and gets boring very quickly. My recommendation: watch the original again instead of wasting your time with this sequel.
No Time to Die (2021)
Probably the best with Craig.
I was not really amazed by the previous JB except Casino Royal. But this one is a solid action movie with a good plot which happens to be up to date with the current world situation. Great story that shows the private site of JB and takes you on a ride with heart.
Shooter: Red Light (2018)
Really? This is the worst ending!
Your showing us the fight and survival of the family and then you kill Julie? Who wrote that? Did you even watch the crap that you wrote? This is the worst ending after showing the loving family and values.
The Parent Trap (1998)
Great family movie!
Yes, it is a remake but it's very good. This is a good feel movie where children are shown as well behaved with good manners and where love wins. It is basically the opposite that you see in todays movies where violence and hate dominates the blockbusters. Movies in the 80s and 90s just had more Charme.
After Hours (1985)
Many great 80s movies, this is Not one of them.
Where do I start? This movie is just boring. 40 minutes into the movie and nothing really happens, the storyline remains non existent and continues to disappoint. Actors feel disconnected and dialogues are boring and non engaging.
The Umbrella Academy (2019)
I'm not a fan of superhero's but this one is great!
I'm not a fan of marvel or some other superhero stuff. It's always the same the they save the world and kill the villain. This one is different. The characters are well developed and deep and their relationship is twisted. This makes it interesting to watch and they are funny too. A well written plot combined with best music and cinematically attractive eye candy. The superpowers and not overused and well placed in the storyline. Enjoyable and catchy!
Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga (2020)
Positive, funny, magical with happy good music.
Between all the flat superhero movies this is a movie which is made with love and heart. If you can embrace the moment and just go with the positive vibe the. This movie will make you smile and happy. Surprisingly funny a bit absurd and a very enjoyable movie. Watch the elf's!
Spies in Disguise (2019)
Not for children under 10
This is not a child's movie in my opinion. Too much violence, too much vulgarity and too much action. Cursing, spitting, killing, fighting, yakuza etc. is not the right level for children of younger age groups. I also did not enjoy it.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2017)
Not for everyone
I really tried watching a couple of episodes but I really can't connect with any of the characters. Anything that is happening is pretty boring and not very convincing. Even the stand up part is not convincing at all. It's not everyone's Humor.
The Boys (2019)
Violence and blood! Is this all you need?
This shows just lives from gore and violence. Is this giving you the next kick or fix? Jumping from one dark show to the next to get satisfaction by watching others explode or die? Most younger audiences don't even see how violence increased in the last 20 years in movies and shows. Negative programming of your brain reaches the next level with this show. This is just sick and perverse.
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Watchable but very boring "documentary"
I really like "old" Tarantino movies but this one is very boring. It feels you're watching a documentary or small homage to the old Hollywood. There is no content or a real story line. After 1.5 hours you're gonna ask yourself what exactly is this movie about? I'm not expecting one action scene after another or joke after joke but at least something you can follow.
The Fast and the Furious (2001)
Its about friendship and trust!
Yes, it's a bit cheesy and old school but if you like the movies then you realise that the first one is about true friendship and trust and this is what I like about it. At least it keeps the focus on the core story, not like part 7 and 8 turning into a war zone.
