Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)
Beyond atrocious
Where to begin with this waste of film? Everyone acknowledges the first film was below average and quite disappointing. Yet, this asinine sequel was far worse. It is very much like the first one in that it wasted a very good cast. It wasted a great concept and certainly wasted prime source material. The character deserves better and this cast and crew certainly deserved more than what we saw at the screen. I can't tell you how nonsensical the plot is when given any rational thought. The CGI actually has gone downhill so much so that it was jarring. When the effects of Spider-Man 3 are better than this all those years later you know they were cutting corners. This is honestly one of the 10 worst comic book movies of this century.
Black Adam (2022)
Simply shallow and not good. Face the truth.
Fanboy cover aside, if you are being honest you have to admit this movie is idiotic. It strikes on the level of a very hollow and very shallow video game. There is no character depth and there is no supporting characters worth anything. You could say Dr Fate is the exception and I won't argue with that.. Pierce Brosnan did the best he could and that turned out to be better than this movie deserved. Everything else is a shallow idiotic CGI-fest. They absolutely miscast Hawkman by the way. The Rock maybe drawing some praise from the minority but the majority of people who saw this movie say it's ridiculous. I know the audience scores have been skewed as stats have been padded but in reality true word of mouth is hurting this movie.
Werewolf by Night (2022)
What? Marvel's not dead after all!
After all the garbage that Disney Plus has put forth, it's so refreshing to get a quality entertaining one hour chunk of entertainment. I miss this and I miss real Marvel. There was nothing woke or nonsensical about this feature. It had a female hero that actually showed fear and actually had depth even though the story wasn't very complex. I'm so surprised to be honest. Everything post Endgame has been a poorly written shallow mess. Most fans have been disgusted by what has transpired labeling everything post Endgame simply as Phase Woke. Maybe Marvel and specifically Kevin Feige has gotten the message? All those years of greatness it was execs keeping Kevin Feige on a leash. Now, unleashed he has no clue but slowly I think he is learning that the Marvel he is fostering has cancer. It's features like this werewolf by night that is the chemotherapy that may just save Marvel after all.
The Ultimate Gift (2006)
Remembered What A Great Film This Is...
Honestly, having endured what Hollywood has produced these last few years made me go back and rewatched this movie. I'm so glad that I did. It was refreshing to remind myself what good writing and a moving storyline can produce. Everyone that was a part of this film production should be proud to this very day. The story is both moving and captivating. It truly inspires and does have its roots in faith based philosophy. I remember being moved back when I first saw this but may be more so now. If you don't shed a tear and have your soul moved by this movie you aren't truly alive. I own a hard copy of this now classic. So, even if cancel culture comes for it I'll be able to show it to my children.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
TRUTH: Terribly Written Bore
I have no agenda. I had no agenda going into watching these episodes either. I judged it fairly and what I saw is a complete mess masquerading as entertainment. In fact, that's the problem... it's not entertainment. It's meandering and poorly constructed with some of the worst dialogue ever put to paper. Anyone saying otherwise are the ones with the agenda. No honest person can claim this inferior product is above a 4/10. That is pure truth. I did enjoy the elf king and the few brief visuals treats. That keeps it from being a 1/10 complete waste. Yet, seeing a dragon fight a giant eagle can't erase the fact that every character is shallow and the lead is the most unlikable new characters in recent memory.
I also hated they completely ignored any Catholic imagery or parallels that are essential to this work.
Jagged Edge (1985)
Poorly Written
The courtroom antics in this movie were preposterous. Any lawyer watching this must laugh his or her tail off. Regardless of that, even with a great cast the third act absolutely flounders. The ending really ruined everything. It's as if it was written by a 12-year-old. The twist was disheartening yes but so telegraphed. After all these years, still a easy of time.
The Gray Man (2022)
Disappointment
Given the pedigree of the writers and the directors I was expecting a much better movie. It was a standard mindless action adventure featuring good guy against team of bad guys... lots of bullets lots of stupidity no heart no depth very little emotion. Chris Evans just doesn't work as a villain. He came off as a douchebag but not menacing. On the plus side Ryan Gosling is a great action hero. Lots of wasted potential in this movie nothing I need to see ever again.
Bad Lieutenant (1992)
Depressing Deep Dive
There's no question that Harvey Keitel delivers a superb performance. However, the subject matter is very disjointed and it's certainly a morbid morbid plot. It's interesting that he seeks forgiveness and the nun forgives her attackers but ultimately it's an unsatisfying movie experience. The very final scene is bizarre and ridiculous.
Memory (2022)
Atrocious with no redeeming factors
This movie was simply awful. There is not one character to root for save maybe Guy Pierce's FBI agent and he is a one note simpleton moping through the entire movie. Liam Neeson is wasted here and his string of paycheck movies continues. This entire effort is vulgar and depressing and ultimately goes nowhere. Unsavory to say the least, consisting of tedious vile images that can hardly be called entertainment. I'm sorry I wasted 2 hours on this crap.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Shallow and Weak
Honestly, I was surprised at how shallow everything is in this movie. The main villain literally has a 2-minute origin and Jane Foster becomes the mighty Thor off camera. Everything felt like there were no consequences at all. It plays like a Saturday morning cartoon not an epic movie. Outside of one maybe two scenes, there isn't any excessive wokeness which is a redeeming quality. However, the lack of character development and depth makes this definitely a lower end MCU movie. The Guardians of the Galaxy are cameos at best and what they did to Zeus and the other gods is absolutely criminal. This is the weakest Thor movie. When Thor the Dark World is three times the better film you're heading in the wrong direction.
The Terminal List (2022)
Truly Great. Unpredictable and Stunning
This series greatest strength is its unpredictability and intensity. Another strength was the superb performance of Chris Pratt. I honestly didn't think he had that type of depth in him but it really came through with this character. I can't stress enough how good this entire series turned out. My only complaint would have to be the ending. They didn't exactly stick that landing but it didn't detract from the overall greatness of this series. Part Rambo First Blood and part Punisher mixed with a whole lot of intrigue makes this one I must see.
Gun Fury (1953)
WOOF
Donna Reed was quite fetching but nothing else in this movie worked. Rock Hudson was nuts and the choices he made especially in this era only confirms that fact. This movie just isn't worth your time or effort.
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
An Awful Abomination
How I managed to endure two seasons of this absolute poorly written trash is beyond belief. They took everything that was great about next generation and other characters and completely flushed them and their past character development directly down the toilet. Add new characters with all the depth of a mud puddle and what you have left is two seasons of miserable sniveling melodrama that would only appeal to those of extremely limited intellect. This series is just awful anyway you judge it.
The Love Punch (2013)
Emma Thompson WOW!
This movie itself is average if not interesting. Pierce Brosnan is charming as always but man, Emma Thompson is absolutely gorgeous in this movie. Talk about an all-time M. I. L. F. Emma steals every scene she is in.
Vega$ (1978)
Superb Old School Show
Robert Urich was one of the best actors, human beings and men of the 20th century. That may sound like hyperbole but I'm not overselling it. This show is a great indicator of the Tana factor. Old school values on display all the way throughout. None of the woke nonsense present in today's TV series. If you could get in a time machine and travel back this is the era you would want to go to.
Little Big Man (1970)
Just Terrible
This is one of the worst movies ever made. Not just in a genre or satire but just one of the worst movies in the history of motion pictures. This is Forrest Gump meets Big Fish meets brain damage. The performances are awful and the plot and story itself is mind-numbingly dumb.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
Awful... Soulless Cash Grab
What a colossal waste of time and money. This could be the worst written attempted relaunch in history. One of the dumbest movies that I have sat through in many years. What happened to Hugo Weaving and Lawrence Fishburne? Absolutely ridiculous. I'm sorry I wasted my time on this poorly constructed descrambled mess. Whatever fruit loop wachowski concocted this needs to return to the insane assylum for more therapy.
