Really refreshing
I really enjoyed this movie. It's different. I really loved the breakaway narration, it was fun and just gave a little insight to how she was really feeling (we could really relate to the moment and giggle at the same time). Great scenic moments - from the suburbs to the building decor, loved the alley outside the workshop, loved the offices, the apartments. Nice character development for many characters. They did a good job of delving into various different themes to get the viewer to understand from multiple perspectives, such complex issues (all within an hour and a half). I really liked the various characters we were introduced to, too. Just a fun movie all round (unrealistic in app turnaround times π), but enjoyable from the general cookie-cutter feel of many movies of its type out there, today.
Every Time a Bell Rings (2021)
Had potential
This movie had potential. Nostalgic storyline. The sisters' acting was ok. No chemistry between Emily and Paul at all (though Paul put more heart into it, yet came out over-soppy and weak instead). Liam and Charlotte had a nice connection. I really struggled with the gay kiss; it bothered me. I think the problem is that I don't appreciate the tokenistic nature of 'sticking in a gay couple'. (don't get me wrong...I have wonderful gay friends, but there's something annoying/almost offensive about the adding of the token dark skinned person, token gay person, token homeless person). Does that make sense? You can feel when it's unnecessary and it's forced into the story. Make a whole movie centred around them or genuinely requires the characters, not added 'just for the sake'. It feels fake and I don't really appreciate that as a viewer. It makes us feel like we're so fickle, and need that to either shut us up or educate us.
Anyway, nice concept to the movie, but went awry I reckon.
Love & Where to Find It (2021)
Really wanted to like it
I truly tried hard to enjoy this but it was just so blah...
I liked most of the actors, but they pulled the poor scripting off poorly in return. How are you not more distraught by losing your business? You dance in your bankrupt cafe with he who contributed to its demise...? It was all just too conveniently problem solved and sorted out. Too contradictory...this conservative guy who feels terrible about causing her to close her business and apologises shyly so many times...then starts boogying down to random music? It was all just drop-dead fake.
There was certainly 'some' potential but there was just too much 'cheesiness' to win me over unfortunately.
It's Christmas, Eve (2018)
Nice
I liked this one. It's a few years old now, but was definitely enjoyable to watch. Nothing too complex; storyline was simple but thankfully a bit different to the same old, same old. Tyler Hynes, as always was great. Always brings a nice romantic streak to the stories through his acting. Abby (daughter) was sweet. Gwynyth complimented her daughter well. I'm a fan of LeAnn Rimes' music and enjoyed hearing her tracks throughout the movie, but must admit that at times, I felt her acting was a little distant and she seemed a little too smiley...but I still enjoyed the movie. Loved the concept of the unfinished piece of music.
Angel Falls Christmas (2021)
I tried really hard to like it...
I'll give any Christmas movie a go- especially now at Christmas time...but there was something about this one that just did not sit right with me. I honestly didn't mind the storyline...but I ultimately think it was CMM's acting that just seemed a bit off. He just did not seem to fit the role, in my opinion. By the time I got to the halfway mark I didn't even feel like watching it anymore because I just wasn't connecting with it, but persisted anyway. Was hoping for the best...but no luck with this one unfortunately. I really did try hard to like it. Sorry guys, this one won't be on my rewatch list for future Christmases.
It Was Always You (2021)
Nawwwww warm & fuzzy
I love this movie.
Yes...the Elizabeth/George relationship was just painful and its doom was easily predicted (and I always feel bad about people being dumped at their own celebratory event π)...but that's the expected from the genre. π€·ββοΈ
Yet there was such beauty in David & Elizabeth finding what had always been there...it made up for the other cliche-ness.
Midnight at the Magnolia (2020)
Loved their chemistry
Fun, warm n fuzzy movie. Yeah - predictable... but what from this genre isn't these days? Loved their friendship. Loved their realisation of more. Great chemistry in friendship and in love.
On Location - Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: A Game of Cat and Mouse (2019)
Finally - a good one!
I've been watching AT during Covid lockdowns because I needed something to occupy my mind. There have been interesting storylines and good characters...but sometimes the writing was so poor and cringe-worthy. She's supposed to be incredibly clever- yet, she says and does things that are really immature and dangerous. I found myself more frustrated with the ditziness she was often portrayed with. Don't get me started on the poor excuses for writing out key characters!! BUT! This Game of Cat & Mouse episode finally started to feel like they were portraying Aurora in a much better light. So much better π
Hope at Christmas (2018)
Baby it's cold outside...
I loved the bookstore concept. I liked the decisions she had before her to make re: her career. But I just couldn't connect with Scottie. I don't think she needed to be so cold. I understand the heartbreak and protecting herself and her daughter...but even when happy...she seemed a little 'too cold'.
Five Star Christmas (2020)
Really enjoyable
I really enjoyed this one! Some genuine laugh-out-loud moments. Good acting. Heart-warming and endearing. Definitely a new fav on my Christmas watch-list.
Christmas She Wrote (2020)
Ended up multitasking
It only took a few mins for me to give up on this one, unfortunately. Uncomfortable pair-up; unnecessary token characters. Storyline had promise...but those oddities just kept pulling it down.
