Last Ounce of Courage (2012)
The War on Christmas: The Movie
It is a terrible thing when a family member dies in battle in the name of protecting the freedoms that we have. It's just as terrible when a movie tries to capitalize on such a terrible tragedy by making it into the dumbest political football since Gerald Ford's clumsiness.
I'm talking about Bill O'Reilly's "War on Christmas"(R)(C)(tm)(sm) etc.
This was supposed to be a movie about how a war hero dad tries to honor his son's legacy. Instead it becomes some neo-conservative propaganda film that makes D.W. Griffith's "Birth of a Nation" look like "The Care Bears Movie". And to release it on September 11th of all days. Like that isn't so cliché of the neo-conservative agenda. In fact that the sort of thing that motivated me to become a democrat as it became as clear as 2005 there was no more room for moderate conservatives.
At any rate, this film is so full of neo-con crap that the message of honoring a lost loved one is buried under "Christian morals" and "conservative principles" rather than love, legacy, and a respect for honor.
Even the trailers exuded a hammy image imposing that if you wanted to be a man, you had to fight a war then someday come back and own a big motorcycle with a flag sticking out of the back. (Which although patriotic, is illegal in many states as the flag could fly off, cover someones windshield and cause a fatal car accident.)
TLDR: If you love someone who has passed, don't be Colonel Neocon and get on the roof and shout "The ACLU is trying to take away our freedom!". Heck, that's not what anyone in Florissant Missouri did after the 1998 decision of ACLU v. Florissant, and I would assume that if anyone loves their country and their troops, they would have enough common sense to realize how much baloney is in this film and how it was put out on September 11th during an election year by a studio that made two other box office bombs with neo-con messages in the past year ("Atlas Shrugged: Part 1" and "Obama 2016")
Embrace reality. Don't watch this film.
Follow up: Anyone noticed the motorcycle carrying a cross and a flag so big you could wrap yourself in it? Sure, you can say he is expressing both is faith and his patriotism but as Sinclair Lewis once said "When fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the American flag and carrying a cross." I hope the audience know the difference between fascism and expressing ones patriotism and faith.
Batman Begins (2005)
Batman Resurected!
The only bad thing about this movie would have to be the Batmobile, but everything else is simply remarkable.
Cillian Murphy's performance of Dr. Jonathan Crane is worthy of being nominated as Best Supporting Actor. (As if anyone at Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences even watches action movies.) If not then Best Villain at the MTV Movie Awards. (As if anyone watches eMTyV.) But seriously, Murphy should get an award for acting the role as one of the most creepy villains in any movie.
One of the flaws of the movie had to have been the Batmobile. Honestly, would the Caped Crusader drive around in an SUV? The vehicle definitely does not match Batman's persona. Perhaps they can trade in the BatSUV in for a BatMOBILE in the sequel.
Surprisingly, much of the movie was filmed in Chicago. Chicago has go to be one of the best cities to film a car chase scene. It was where the Blues Brothers was filmed in 1980. While the film implies that Gotham is New York, it was pretty clear that this movie was filmed in Chicago. It was a good decision to film there. A futuristic L-Train running through Wayne Tower seemed rather believable.
In short, great Hero, great Villain, great Director, bad vehicle, good location, and I want to see the sequel.
The Bat is Back!
Danny Phantom (2003)
Fairly Odd Parents meets Invader Zim
Butch Hartman has done it again. The man who has borough us the Fairly Odd Parents has created another great series with such great characters that most kids can relate to including villains, some of which are mortal, others are from the beyond. Danny: the lovable loser who despite all his good deeds receives no respect. Tucker: the geek who tries too hard to impress others. Sam: the girl no one understands except for her good friends. Dash: the jock who we've all met in high school who despite his athletic ability, undeserving popularity, and rotten behavior which slides because he can catch a football, is truly a mortal villain. He is truly the opposite of Danny, Paulina: the shallow, pretty girl. Paulina is to Sam what Dash is to Danny. Jazz is the sister who worries about everyone, even her daffy parents. Hartman the story is pretty well though out as well. A boy is bestowed with powers he tries to control while managing with other problems in his life, some more than others. While there is a huge fan base for this show, it appears the network still has trouble with change. If fans of Danny love this show, they should inform the network. Otherwise, Danny will get replaced with another slipshod Rugrats spin off. If you see something you like, say something.
Futurama (1999)
Best Sci-Fi Animated Series Ever
At times Futurama is silly other times it is emotional and philosophical. It was certainly a smart and well thought of sci-fi series. It certainly brings up questions of what life will be like in the future even with the silly environment.
The characters are the examples. Fry is the man from the past where no one loved him finds true love in the future in a one-eyed woman who no one cared for in the future. Dr. Zoidberg is a lobster-man who is a terrible doctor but whose customs are reasonable when you see how his own society exists. Kiff is a spineless alien both literally and figuratively who has low self esteem when he is working with his boss but has the heart of a gentleman when he is with the girl he loves.
Futrama questions the relationships of people in the future and how society has changed.
Napoleon Dynamite (2004)
Worst. Movie. Ever.
I can't believe I got this movie for Christmas. It was the most boring thing I've seen.
My sister got this movie for me for Christmas because she though my personality was similar to Napoleon Dynamite. Wrong.
I may be a geek, but this? This is the most pathetic movie ever seen since The Matrix Revolutions, the only difference between Dynamite and Matrix 3 was that I didn't fall asleep during this movie.
I partial blame the fact that MTV had a hand in producing this crap. It was like watching a 95 minute MTV promo where they show you these lame people like salesmen.
I also found this movie to be bias. Reguardless of the fact that this movie revolves around a geek, the protrusion of the white female cheerleader being perfect and the Mexican characters being run down and poor. The movie also tried to state that being politically incorrect was wrong.
In short, this movie was MTV trying to sell teenagers.
Hagane no renkinjutsushi (2003)
Dramatic and Impressive
At times the story for Edward and Alphanse is melancholy. The boys lose there mother. They lose their bodies. They lose people who care for them, who befriended them, and who they thought they could trust.
It could be stated the story is that of loss at the beginning. However, the story's main theme is the Principal of Equivalent Exchange, the postulate that states that nothing can be gained without loss. In the real world, this is a true statement, except it does not apply to the magic and alchemy which is part of the story of Full Metal Alchemist. Children are born into the world only to lose their parents in the future. Peace can be achieved between two nations while war begins with another set of nations. A new day begins while the day ends on the other end of the world. This is the story of Full Metal Alchemist. A story that nothing can be gained without losing something else. Conversely, nothing can be lost without gaining something in return.
The Matrix Revolutions (2003)
Leave this one at the video store
If The Matrix was the movie that was to free your mind, open your eyes, know thyself, and unplug yourself from the system, then Reloaded and Revolutions are the two movies that will plug you back into the system and force you to forget everything you were taught about the matrix.
Somehow, in the last two movies the goth and hacker theme was replaced by some raver and bondage theme. It is as if any form of freedom and anarchy that was in the first film turned into consumerism and conformity in the second two movies.
If you are a fan of the Matrix DON'T see Reloaded or Revolution. Stick with the original Matrix and the Animatrix.
The Animatrix: The Second Rennaissance, Part II (2003)
A serious dose of the Red Pill that hits close to reality
Who is the lesser of two evils?
I think the hook in this film was how the machines located their city, 01, in an area of great turmoil: The Middle East.
When the peaceful robots offer recognition, the world reacted negatively. When the world fell, 01 tortured the world that abused and refused them.
Is it really justice for the machines to enslave humanity? Is it really the best interest for the world to destroy itself to destroy its enemy through private agendas and contractors, likewise, is it really the best interest for the enemy to the world through terrorism and fear that the world will continue to use them for what they can only provide?
The terror does not come from 01 or the world, it comes from people with personal interest, great influence, and strong ideology.
Like all good films, they are the red pill stories. This is one of them.
Wake up, it's not a dream! IT IS REAL! An inevitable end...WAKE UP! Delay the apocalypse by taking action and responsibility for ones own mistakes.
Big Fish (2003)
Excellent!
I don't think I've ever weeped so many tears of joy despite the sadness of the situation. I've stood up all night thinking about how this story has touched me as it is one of the best stories that has ever been told in film. The story mixes in the great things anyone can do in their life despite the teleological limit we have in this existence. To tell you the truth, I really don't think there will be another movie like Big Fish. It is truly one of a kind!
My Life as a Teenage Robot (2002)
It's good but the first season needs a few more episodes
What can I say. I'm a sucker for new ideas. My Life as a Teenage Robot mixes old school animation with Frederator's elete team of animators. I think this show will be most liked upon fans of The Fairly Oddparents and those who also liked Invader Zim.
Probably one of my favorite characters on the show would have to be Sheldon. While he is a geek, he tries hard to gain Jenny's attention. This is what makes the show worth watching.
Fillmore! (2002)
Brillant!
Just when Disney is about to be doomed, the animators rally. Fillmore will undoubtedly be a supierior series. Though Fillmore is the title character, Ingrid is more like the main character. Like in Fairly Oddparents, the show has a mix of new and current voice actors including Tara Strong and Frankie Munez.
The Fairly OddParents (2001)
A Good Wish Granted!
Farily OddParents is certainly one of the best Nicktoons on Nick. It's a shame that Invader Zim did not recieve the same praise that FOP recieved. Characters, A++! Voice actresses Tara Strong and Grey DeLisle team up with a short list of A-list celebrities including Jay Leno and Frankie Muniz. 10 out of 10 stars.
Invader ZIM (2001)
The Angry Beavers meets The Matrix
I love everything about the show. The gothic nature of Gaz and Ms. Bitters. The bitter rivalry between Dib and Zim over the fate of the earth. The cometic relief of Gir and Iggens (ep: Game Slave 2). Even Prof. Membrane and the Almighty Tallest are great!
Courage the Cowardly Dog (1999)
Freaky and yet Naauuuughty!
I LOVE THIS SHOW! I'm 18 years old and I'm addicted to Cartoon Network! And its all because of Courage!
I like Muriel. She has a warm friendly voice that makes me wish that I was Courage. Eustice is a stupid human!
The bell ringer was cool and so was Freaky Fred who indeed was very Naaaauuughty!
