Childish and an over-used cgi
31 August 2022
The phantom menace -for star wars supporters' eyes at least- should have been the great opening to the prequel saga, bringing in -other than some of the old trilogy characters and new one- mostly a new point of view of the world of star wars, bringing it to a new mature tone, placing the political sphere of this world at the center of the plot.

Well, simply... it did not happen.

George Lucas tries to alternate these serious tones with moments that should serve to "dissolve" the tension but which are stupid and childish - we can call into question the character of Jar Jar Binks.

This, combined with a preponderant and constantly annoying CGI and a very slow progress of the film - just remember the enormous duration of Anakin's competition - makes the film not appropriate to a slightly more adult audience.

Having said that, it is necessary to say that episode one has some positive aspects, just like the characters of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinn, Darth Maul and Palpatine above all, which represent the real flagship of this film.

After all, Star Wars - The Phantom Menace closes as one of the two weakest chapters of the Skywalker saga, being a film - unfortunately - insufficient.

My rating: 5.1/10.

Not a masterpiece, but an incredible and unrepeatable experience
2 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
There are so many problems in this movie, starting with many plot holes, but after all it succeeds in the attempt to close in great way Tom Holland's trilogy.

The comeback of the previous Spider-man is not only fan-service, but also an expedient to make Tom Holland's Peter Parker grow up.

The VFX do their work without any problem.

Honorable mention to the great performance by Willem Dafoe, coming back twenty years later as the Green Goblin, and also a good performance by Tom Holland and Jamie Foxx as the Electro.

On the other hand, not a great work from a dead Rhys Evans as the Lizard. In its favor, however, we must say that is character has been cast aside to make shine other characters, like the great Alfred Molina's Doc Ock.

As always, the film is pervaded by a light atmosphere, typical of the Marvel movies, but it is surely deepest movie of the "Home trilogy".

Good work from Jon Watts, capable of administrate such a big cast and give an honorable finale to Tobey Maguire's Spider-man, while Andrew Garfield's Spider-man seems has something more to say... maybe, we will see!

My rating: 7.3/10.

J. K. Rowling what are you doin' here?
28 February 2022
Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) plane to raise an army of wizards to rule over muggles. Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) seeks Newt Scamander's (Eddie Redmayne) help to stop him.

There are so many problems in this movie. The main problem is the lack of a great villain. Johnny Depp, at his historical lows, is far far away from Ralph Fiennes' Voldemort. The plot is so boring and it is obvious that there will be no progress until the last film of the Saga. This movie has to considered as a "passing movie" until the grand finale.

The only positive note is Jude Law performance, ambiguous and intriguing, and the great VFX.

My rating: 5.8/10.

The finest representation of Death (and life)
11 January 2022
In this little Netflix masterpiece, Coen brothers narrate about death. She (yeah, it's like a person) comes in multiple ways and unexpectedly -as for the main character of the first story, the cowboy Buster Scruggs- but inevitably comes. Not for anyone, this movie is one of the greatest work by Coen brothers.

My rating: 8.0/10.
