Henry VIII: Man, Monarch, Monster (2020)
Interesting
This documentary tells the story of Henrys most engaging and important moments within his life. Although I enjoyed the dramatics of the show and the engaging tone, it lacks perspective. For example it's view on the dissolution of the monasteries lacks depth, it portrays many of the main characters as 2D leaving out information which might oppose the main theme of Henry being a 'monster'.
The Book of Boba Fett: Chapter 7: In the Name of Honor (2022)
Generally really enjoyed it
I'm not a major Star Wars buff, so I don't particularly understand the annoyance over cad banes death or the irrelevance to the story points. I thought it was nice to zoom in on a smaller battle rather than more 'let's save the universe again' type of content. Loved the team up with Mando and Boba, would have liked more of Fennec tho. Overall nice ending to a mediocre show, action packed and entertaining.
Doctor Who: Eve of the Daleks (2022)
It wasn't horrible but still enjoyable
I really enjoy Doctor who, especially the newest regeneration, but a lot of the writing is rather poor, this episode/special was still pretty entertaining and I can't wait to see how the storyline between Yaz and the dr will fair. Although I do wish the writers could come up with some original ideas, this episode felt like many others. I had to cringe at the dr's 'inspirational speech' and her sonic screwdriver is way over used!! Not rubbish, not amazing, not my favourite Ep.
Tomb Raider (2018)
Not great- not bad
When I watch this film I can't help but think about Angelia Jolie. Lara Croft adventures over the sea to find her long lost father although on her way she encounters an enemy. The directors, writers etc seem to have taken a very different approach to previous tomb raider films, theres still the high pace action sequences, but Lara is no longer a confident heroine but rather a slightly lost looking average 20 year old, who happens to box in her spear time. Not as good as the original but not bad.
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001)
Entertaining- Although dry dialogue
I thoroughly enjoy this movie, i'v watched it several times and it's one of my favourite films, although I find myself being biased with my original 8 stars because although the action is amazing- particularly the bungee jump scene, Lara's dialogue is in rather scarce and it sometimes lacks emotion. Although Angelia Jolie is a great actress, and her British accent is surprisingly good you never really feel a connection to her character. It doesn't stop this being one of favourites tho.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Nostalgia.... Great performances
The film shows a completely different side to Peter Parker, he's no longer the happy child presented in civil war and perhaps infinity war, but rather a sad and rather lost teen. This film has an amazing cast and the acting is incredible. You can tell the movie was insane by the audible gasps in the cinema. It felt as if this was the pinnacle of film when Andrew Garfield and Toby Maguire jump through portals to reprise their roles as Spider-Man. Amazing.
WandaVision (2021)
Love it!!
I'm a long time marvel fan and know the franchise inside out, but this was certainly something very different. It just missed the 10/10 point due to the first few episodes being dragged on longer than necessary. Although once you sit through them, the show picks up pace and becomes very interesting. Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda maximoff) acts amazingly. Paul Bettany (Vision) and Katheryn Hahn (Agatha Harkness) gave terrific performances.
