The Gospel of Lou (2003)
Bold, original and Woody Allen-esquire
This is unlike any other movie, the closest thing I can compare it to is a Woody Allen film... But where as Woody Allen is constantly fathoming human foibles Bret Carr appears to be trying to figure out a way to get to grips with that one crippling insecurity that tends to define us for better or worse. In the Case of Lou, it is the root cause of his stuttering, which can be traced back to a singular child hood trauma that is revealed through flash backs.
There are so many strangely neurotic people in the world and I believe they all deserve a chance for redemption, although diversity of human character is after all what makes the world such an intriguing place, so maybe we shouldn't fix our neurosis anymore than we should fix our noses or Breasts.
This is an indie film shot on a long shoestring, but the production values are tremendous as is the scope of the film. I feel like its a quirky Gem for the self-help market. I really look forward to seeing what this filmmaker does next, i could imagine a career along the lines of Woody Allen or Albert Brooks, although usually when a guy like this breaks through, he goes off and makes " X MEN" and his humble quirky origins are soon forgotten or are they.... X Men is aout a bunch of freaks if i remember correctly :)
Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003)
On par with Leone
I have seen all of Sergio leone's films so many times that I even recently bought a very early Sword and sandal pic that he directed, but it didnt have the same flair as his Spaghetti Westerns.... For me QT fills the void left by the death of Sergio Leone. I found kill Bill to be utterly thrilling and awe inspiring, all the little stylistic choices were both cool as hell and on the money, and the script was real tight... as someone who's directed a few flicks, seeing this movie made me want to run a Sword through my personal DVD collection.................. Keep it up QT, this is delicious filmmaking... And uh can i be in your next movie?

SLAMDUNK!
I just saw this movie with a full house at Slamdunk. A totally daring movie. They really pulled it off! Great performances all improv. Very Cool Well Done. I especially liked the Pineapple. It's also very funny albeit dark humor. John Ritter is really Good.

New Orleans Magic
I just bought the Special Edition DVD... this is a really fine independent film. There have probably only ever been a handfull of Low Budget fantasy movies, this one is a gem.. I recommend the Special Edition DVD... The movie is funny and really beautiful and it's grreaat that it doesn't just try to give what the studio movies give, but offers a whole different (albeit naughty) slant.
I give it FOUR STARS!
