Locked In (V) (2023)
5/10
It was anticlimatic, everything was predictable and well, boring.
5 November 2023
In this movie Lina is adopted by Kathrine - her dead mother's best friend - to live in a mansion that represents all the luxury and glamour Kathrine is used to but recently lost, as upon her husband's death everything was inherited by Jamie - Kathrine's young stepson.

Will this strange family dynamic prevail or will it all turn into a tragedy?

The movie has good vibes but the story was not strong enough and felt like the characters tension wasn't played out well. It was lacking chemistry and often felt like they all had different ideas about how they should portray the characters.

It was anticlimatic, no big revelations or twists, everything was predictable and well, boring.

It felt like they tried too hard to make it scary or thrilling but failed at the attempt even though they had all these amazing scenery but ultimately failed to give it cinematic justice.

My Fault (2023)
6/10
The storyline is far from realistic
18 July 2023
My fault is the newest Spanish teen-drama romance that feels like a mixture of Through my Window, Three Steps Above Heaven and Fast and Furious.

Noah is upset with her mother as she has to leave her boyfriend and friends and move in with her mother's new rich husband and his son Nick. Nick is a typical bad boy turns good boy, and their romance is a typical forbidden step-sibling relationship surrounded by gangsters, wannabes and rich kid problems.

The storyline is far from realistic, the dialogue is quite dull, but there is chemistry between the actors and it is entertaining enough. At least it was for me, but it might not be everyone's cup of tea.

Flamin' Hot (2023)

Could we truly call it a Biographical movie if its based on lies?
6 July 2023
Flamin' Hot is a 2023 American biographical comedy-drama film directed by Eva Longoria, about a Frito Lay janitor named Richard Montañez, who came up with the idea for Flaming Hot Cheetos.

This year has definitely been the year for inspirational biopics such as Tetris, Air and Blackberry and now this latest story - Flaming Hot is captivating, funny and heart warming.

The movie tells us about Montañez's life, his determination to make something of himself, his love and support for his neighbourhood and his family and the struggles along the way he faced.

The story is fresh and enjoyable with just enough drama to pull the viewer in. The cast was well chosen and the acting was spot on.

Does the fact that the story is not entirely true takes away the enjoyment of the movie?

Not in my opinion.

Could we truly call it a Biographical movie if its based on lies?

I leave this question to you.

The perfect romantic Friday night movie.
30 June 2023
Turkish cinematology is on the rise and Netflix's new movie Make Me Believe - filmed in the beautiful northwestern Turkey is the perfect romantic Friday night movie.

Sahra and Deniz used to be childhood friends, hanging out at their grandma's house but now years later they meet again and they despise each other. Their meddling grannies try all sort of tricks to bring the two together. Will they succeed?

I like the non complicated storyline and the realistic personalities of the characters and the beauty of Turkey is absolutely overwhelming. The emotions were not all over the place (as it happens so often in other Turkish movies), the main characters slowly let us see into their hearts and motivations.

Even though the storyline is predictable and some of the actors play is adequate, it is a sweet and nice summery romance and it's definitely worth a watch.

I must say I liked the first movie better.
30 June 2023
Through my window - a Spanish romantic teen drama based on a book with the same title, hit Netflix like a storm last year, as another Kissing Booth wanna be. Now it tries to flare up the flame by bringing a sequel.

The story continues where it was left by Ares studying in Stockholm while Raquel stayed behind with all their friends and family. It is a big adjustment for both of them. Can their relationship survive the test?

I must say that the beautiful beaches of Costa Brava made me feel like I was too on a holiday, and the drama between the friends gave just enough entertainment to keep on watching. But do they must force these makeshift problems and hilarious intimate scenes on the viewers?

The story line doesn't feel realistic and by the end of the movie it stretches too far into trying to be serious and dramatic with a tragic ending.

I must say I liked the first movie better, because it didn't want to be anything else than it is, while the second one was just trying too hard.

Fans will be happy to know that a third part of the trilogy Through My Window: Looking at You should arrive in 2024.

Sometimes all you need is a 5 star movie to spend your boring Wednesday nights.
28 June 2023
The movie picks up 3 months after the first movie ended and Jodie and Dunker are still together. She forgave Stig and encourages the gang to let him join them.

The movie in itself wasn't really exciting, normal teenage drama with little ups and downs but the moral of the story actually was refreshing. It talks about teenagers, their body negativity issues, relationship problems and anxiety issues. It focuses less on popularity clicks and boy drama and more on what happens after.

The ultimate question however remains, did we really need a sequel?

It is becoming harder to impress people, and sequels tend to fail more often than not.

Is it watchable? Yes, I do like to give any movie a chance.

Would I recommend to others?

Sometimes all you need is a 5 star movie to spend your boring Wednesday nights.

Have I wasted my Valentine's date on this movie?
28 June 2023
I've always loved J. Lo's movies Unrealistic love stories with a couple of obstacles to jump through and a promised happy ending at the end.

This movie started out very promising, with two of Hollywood's veteran sweethearts, but unfortunately their chemistry just wasn't there. The story line fell apart and dragged out from time to time. The songs written for the movie felt rushed and basic, though J. Lo does them credit by performing.

Have I wasted my Valentine's date on this movie?

No, it did make me smile couple of times and even though this is not at all the best J. Lo movie out there it was worth a watch.

A little light whodunnit that worth a watch, but only once.
28 June 2023
This movie had a promising start featuring Leighton Meester (we all know from Gossip Girl) and Luke Norris (from Poldark).

It is about an American women who flies over to beautiful Croatia to spend a well deserved weekend with her best friend. What started out as a luxurious fun girl weekend turns into a nightmare. What scares the viewer the most is not even the tragedy in itself, but the dangers of being a foreigner in a country. A country that lies just close enough to the West with its modern practises and gorgeous picturesque sites where you feel comfortable enough not to notice that it is still half stuck in the East with its corruption and dangerous ways.

I liked the story but the elements of surprise felt flat and forced.

It does have a good start, but is this movie trying to bite more than it can chew?
26 June 2023
Ruby wakes up in a basement looking room with her head and legs bandaged, not recalling who she is. Her kidnapper Tom walks in informing her that he compromised her legs and he is planning to keep her there until she falls in love with him.

I am always intrigued by a storyline that is set in a closed space, throwing psychologically intense questions at the viewer and relies solely on two main characters with little background information and their connection to each other.

It does have a good start, but is this movie trying to bite more than it can chew?

It seemed somewhat forced and the actors seemed lost from time to time. The movie did give the viewer the freedom to get their own conclusions at the end, like Black Swan or American psycho.

The question remains at the end: are Ruby's memories actually coming back or does Tom forcefully builds himself into Ruby's conscious?

All in all, I felt the chemistry between the characters. The story, though seemed sometimes slow, it did came to a full circle at the end. It was the right amount of pretentious to make it watchable and the unique title will remind me of the story for a long time to come.
