King Kong (2005)
I feel sorry for anyone NOT LOVING this movie!!!
Like Peter Jackson, the original 1933 King Kong movie masterpiece has always been one of my favorite all-time moves, probably in my Top 25 of all time. Well, Mr. Jackson has managed to equal that 1933 achievement, and in many ways surpassed it- especially in the development of the Kong-Anne Darrow relationship.
For me, the 3 hours went by quicker than a lot of 2 hour movies I've sat through and I was drawn in to the stupendous adventure of it all right from the start. Naomi Watts as Anne Darrow was never more beautiful and deserves an Oscar nomination for her performance playing off a CGI character in Kong- absolutely wonderful performance. Kong was so real to me that I believe there MUST BE a 25 foot gorilla somewhere in New Zealand, or wherever it was this was filmed! This is movie-making at it's best and I feel very sorry for all those negative reviewers who have been so beaten down by life's travails that they can't enjoy a sublime 3 hours of sheer escapism into a strange story of adventure and wonder.
Sands of the Kalahari (1965)
One of my favorite all-time movies
What a great flick. It's hard to believe that it never received the recognition it fully deserved. Acting is first-rate, the scenery magnificent and the plot hooked you in immediately. The ULTIMATE survival movie!
Stuart Whitman played his role as ultimate survivor to the hilt in probably the most effective role ever in his career.
I would hope that some day Paramount comes to it's senses and releases this on DVD. All fans of this movie should in fact demand no less- let's start lobbying Paramount. Until then, it is an all too rarely seen item on cable movie channels like A&E or AMC.
American Beauty (1999)
Over-rated Junk
This has got to be one of the most over-rated pieces of junk of all time. Aside from the performances, which WERE good, this depressing movie has no redeeming value. You walk away from this one wondering- what was the point?
And the title- American Beauty? Does that refer to the Spacey character threatening to blackmail his boss- or his wife's sick obsessions- or the next door neighbor military man ( Hollywood-stereotyped as the right wing nut) - or his son, who sees beauty in life while selling drugs?
This is trash, pure and simple.........
