Reservation Dogs (2021)
Surprise Gem
Just happened upon it and really enjoyed this show. I've seen reviews complaining about language and content but the reality is this is really about family and relationships. Pretty cool to get a comedy from a native perspective and done in a way that was inclusive without a heavy political slant. A show like this is a lot more likely to break down some walls and mend some fence. The humor is not typical but it's pretty dang funny and the acting is actually really strong. Regarding performance, there are some average scenes but some of the interaction, the deer hunting scene for example, are really great stuff and go deep. Great variety of characters and cameos as well.
The Pentaverate (2022)
It's Mike Myers's, what are you looking for?...
I went ahead and watched after reading the reviews. They seemed pretty polar with a lot of "until the last episode..". Comments. [Spoiler?] Apparently people don't like the not terribly dominant commentary on big business, climate change, cospiaracy theories, and old white men running the country. (Saw a review explaining why that made sense, too funny.) Sometimes the truth hurts.
This is Mike Myers, cheesy, not always on but funny when it needed to be with some reasonably creative stuff. It's been a while since Myers has put something out and I'm glad to see it and hope there's more to come.
Ozark (2017)
Breaking Worse
I'll start by saying I love Jason Bateman's work... but this really was a weak ripoff of Breaking Bad that started out strong and fell apart. There is no consistency in the characters motivation or behavior from episode to episode, everybody (everybody!) is corruptible, the Byrde family has expertise and ins on every level, the dozens of missing persons and deaths from this town don't seem to draw any attention, I killed my brother to protect...oh boy. The endless impossibilities and stretches are too much. Wouldn't recommend.
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
Not your average bear...
Acting, writing, production all great. Watching this reminded me of films like Eraser Head, Blue Velvet, Clockwork Orange, ...Green Night? Etc. Where you walk out trying to digest what just happened. I love a good formula but I think now we lack the off the wall creative pieces that this is. Pretty entertaining and really a solid message. Enjoy the mayhem!
Return to Space (2022)
Uplifting during difficult times
Refreshing to see such dedication and progress in a world with its share of problems. Encouraging as as reminder of what private industry can and will do. Enlightening to get a little view of the larger than life Elon Musk. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Raised by Wolves (2020)
Pointless
Big potential, no payoff. This was a collection of random magical events without follow up or completion, basically just throw in some new event each episode that isn't and never gets tied into the story line There was no logic, no storyline, and no continuity. I forced myself to watch the full season but wouldn't recommend.
