The Vatican Tapes (2015)
Stigmata Ripoff
From the Patricia Arquette look-alike, the corrupt Vatican officials, fire, ancient language, miracles, a girl who possesses healing powers, The Vatican Tapes borrowed heavily from Stigmata and then threw in a dash of The Exorcist and sprinkled in some The Omen at the end. Boring and unoriginal. Damn shame as the topic of demon possession and exorcism have so much to offer if an imaginative writer is put to work. Did they think no one had seen Stigmata? Even Michael Peña looked like he was struggling to not laugh at the silliness of this lame and poorly stitched together plagiarism of better films.
Red (2008)
OMG, what a stinker!
Brian Cox is the only bright spot in this disappointment. From the implausible plot to the scenery chewing, from beginning to end, this one is just god-awful. By the end of it I suspected Red committed suicide to get away from such a lousy vehicle. I'm happy for him being a dog with only one life to give in service to this train wreck. Amanda Plummer must have thought she was still holding up a diner. Tom Sizemore was as one-dimensional as ever. Bob Englund got gypped in the lines department.
Despite having some big name talent, this movie was undone by a sadly predictable plot and some intelligence-insulting foreshadowing.
American Insurrection (2021)
What A Stinker
A good premise. Timely and terrifying. Too bad they couldn't follow thru with a plausible script. Why in the world would people who want a White, Straight, christian America prevent those who are not from leaving the country?? Major plot holes, lousy character development, tedious dialogue. I couldn't wait for it to end.
