Young Guns (1988)
Great Movie
I'll admit it. This movie is a product of its time. It stars some of the biggest young starrs and up and coming actors of the late 80's. Maybe I love it so much because most of the actors were about my age, give or take 2 or 3 years. It was the Breakfast Club in the old west but It was a fun and entertaining. From what I have read about Billy the Kid and the others, the writers did their research and held pretty close to the truth. They took poetic license with the fate of some of the characters. I did not see it in the theaters but caught it when it debuted in cable. I bought the VHS version and later purchased the DVD. It and it's sequel are great viewing.
All American: Homecoming (2022)
Entertaining but requires major suspension of disbelief
This is fun and entertaining. I watched it's parent show so I was curious about it. It has potential to be a good show but they need to bring in consultants who played college sports. I never played college baseball, but I played growing up and coached you try baseball for 10 years. It's my favorite sport. Here are the issues I have: (1) College baseball players don't get the attention and press that their football & basketball counterparts do. A high school baseball player turning down a pro contract to play at the college level would never cause a stir. It happens all the time. One of my classmates did so 40 years ago. A high schooler will not go straight to MLB, they will play in the lower minor leagues in a small town. (2) They are newly arrived freshmen which means it is fall. Fall is football season, not baseball or tennis which play in the spring. (3) In episode 3, the team is meeting in the locker room after a game. All the uniforms are clean and no one is sweaty. Baseball infields and warning tracks are red or brown dirt. No one can play a game and leave that clean.
