Wonder Showzen (2005)
Only people with brains and a sense of humour will enjoy this
Everyone else will say it sucks. Seriously, I haven't enjoyed a new show like this in quite some time. This show makes me believe in Teevee again. A scathing satire of children's educational teevee, the show simultaneously mocks and cherishes many childhood (and adult) ideals, like cooperation, imagination and diversity. I like a show that's not afraid to take risks, and I wish there were more shows that had as much heart and balls. PS-Anyone saying this show is mean-spirited is probably not paying attention. It is cynical, but cynical and mean-spirited aren't the same thing now, are they? Recommended only for people who don't suck a big one. Everyone else stay clear.
The Adventures of Pete & Pete (1992)
Holy Crap I forgot how awesome this show was.
I remember when this was on Nickolodeon as one minute shorts. Then a few years later, it became a full blown teevee show. I pretty much based my life's philosophy around the Petes. Which was finding amazing things within the seemingly mundane. Which the show did with a flair unmatched in history. Honestly one of the best shows to ever air on television. In fact, I like it even better now than I did when I was a teenager. And the guest stars they had were amazing. What other show could boast the likes of Steve Buscemi, Iggy Pop, LL Cool J, Johnny Unitas, Frank Gifford, Adam West and many others? In fact, I'd say this show is one of the reasons why Nickolodeon was once one of the greats. One final note to the people who said negative things about this show and anybody else who hates this show: You people need to get cancer and die painfully because your opinions suck.
Feardotcom (2002)
I'd rather eat my own flesh than ever watch this movie again
First of all, to everyone who said this was a great movie because of originality: I would like to direct you to The Ring, or to Ringu, which is what The Ring is a remake of. Either one is infinitely superior to this piece of dung. Word has it that production of this movie was rushed so that it could be released before The Ring came out. And boy does it show. One example of how ineffective this film is: I am scared to death of cockroaches, yet the scene containing cockroaches in this movie didn't scare me in the least. Most likely 'cause they were obviously computer generated. I stayed through the whole movie hoping the movie would improve. Then the lights went up and I was like, "That's it? That really sucked." I've never been more disappointed in a movie in all my life. Everyone involved in this waste of time, money and filmstrip should hang their head in shame. Do yourself a favor, skip this movie and see either The Ring or the original Japanese version, Ringu.
The Powerpuff Girls Movie (2002)
Standard drill: Love the show, love the movie. Hate the show, hate the movie.
I, for one, loved the movie. There was enough action, humor and fun to make this a movie well worth paying for. The animation is simplistic, yet very cool and there are movie references galore. Quick warning for parents: One of the girls utters the word "damn." There's also some violence, so this isn't for real little children (under age 7). But if you can read this review, you're old enough to see it. PS-If you hate the show, don't bother. It's great, but it doesn't stray from the teevee show.
Gates of Heaven (1978)
Beautiful, Haunting Film
This film is ostensibly about pet cemetaries, but is actually a touching piece on the human condition. I defy ANYONE to watch this and not be affected emotionally. If you can watch this and not be affected, you have no soul.
Scooby-Doo (2002)
Geez People, It wasn't THAT bad
It certainly wasn't the worst film of the year. (That distinction goes to Van Wilder). The movie was very faithful to the cartoon, and quite fun to watch. While it was no Citizen Kane, it certainly wasn't horrible. Coulda had a better casting choice than SMG and FPJr, but they weren't that terrible. And Lillard's performance was spot on. And new comer Verdinelli (sp?) did a great job as Velma. And Scooby was funny too. I loved the plot twist at the end! All in all, I give it 7 out of 10. (Lost a few points because of the Kung Fu Daphne. I just didn't buy it.) Otherwise, the movie was very enjoyable.
