Justice League (2017)
Dreadful.
It takes a mighty effort to make a movie this dreary out of a group of beloved superheroes coming together. The cast was solid enough, although I don't buy Affleck as Batman and the presence of two cast members with icky legal issues in their recent pasts was distracting. But the problems with this movie were far more than that. The script was dull, humourless and disjointed. It was a thrill- free ride.
Zombie Nightmare (1987)
It Was Dreadful, But I Was Never Bored.
The acting was woeful, the continuity non-existent and the whole budget must have been less than 100 bucks, but I sure did laugh. Although, probably not for reasons the film-makers intended.
If you love bad movies and inept film-making, this is for you. The added bonus is Adam West, who deserved better but is always a welcome sight.
Worth a watch if you don't want to be challenged in any way and need a good chuckle.
Emergency! (1972)
Great Series That Started Many a Career
I loved this show as a kid. A snappy Nelson Riddle theme, likeable stars, fast-moving pace and, man, did I learn some handy first aid things from it that I've never forgotten. I loved the way the paramedics treated everyone with dignity, even when they were being a real pain, and the attention to detail in the rescues was excellent.
This show inspired so many people to take up careers in medicine and rescue. Even one guest star - Bobby Sherman - was so taken by his experience on the show he became a real life paramedic.
Watching it some 50 years on, it's still great entertainment.
The Stand (2020)
What a Mess!
There were things about the original series of The Stand that could have been improved on, so I was hopeful when I heard there a new version. But this is nothing but a mess. Between the choppy timelines and some poor casting choices, the story has lost its heart and its way. And it was just plain confusing at times!
I would recommend anyone unfamiliar with Stephen King's book watch the 1994 series, instead of this. Sure, it's not exactly edgy (in fact it's rather quaint) and the special effects are a bit dodgy, but it's a solid cast and the linear storytelling will make it infinitely more enjoyable as a viewing experience.
