Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
There is one born every minute ... and it was my minute!
I fell hook, line and sinker for the terrific reviews. After the first 20 - 30 minutes I was in the nightmare of rabbit holes! The only redeeming feature in this movie is that it does FINALLY end, after over 2 very long hours! Can't think of a single teeny, tiny reason to go see it.
Awful, terrible movie!!!
The Book of Henry (2017)
Excellent Night at the Movies
I had no idea what this movie was about, but decided to go because the critics panned it but it got good reviews from viewers. This is a wonderful story about some wonderful people in a very not so normal, but loving family. And first and foremost, it is a STORY!!!! So you can suspend your feelings of, "it just does not seem real to me"! It is beautifully filmed; wonderful acting and character development! Your feelings will run the gamut, but that is what excellent storytelling is all about. Do yourself a favor and go see this movie!
The Raven (2012)
Very Fun to watch movie
Reading some of the reviews for this movie, I hesitated on going to see it, BUT knowing that I know I have seen worse, off I went. I was very pleasantly surprised at how much fun this movie was to watch (there are a few gory scenes). Knowing going in, that it is a work of fiction, I just decided to have a good time. And a good time I had! The acting was just fine. The plot was easy to follow. Character development was good. I usually can pick out the murderer in movies, but this one got away from me. I was so busy getting involved with the plot/characters that I just did not think about who the murderer might be. I LOVED the ending of the movie. All in all, I would even go see this again!
Up in the Air (2009)
Was a letdown, VERY disappointed
Christmas weekend, visiting with family. My husband, son and I decided to go see Up in the Air since it has been tagged at "best movie of the year"! It had George Clooney in it, which I thought meant that it had to at least be watchable. Do not waste your time or money. We were "hornwswaggled"! Watching this movie was like watching paint dry. I'll start with what I did like: I have to say that the acting and character development were EXCELLENT. George Clooney is a fine actor and he is very easy on the eyes. The two lead women were excellent and developed their characters completely. What I did not like was the story. It was just a story of everyday living about a guy who travels all the time for business. When the movie was over I looked at my family and we all just shrugged our shoulders. It was just OK. Had it not been for the terrific acting, it would have been a real snoozer! Certainly not even close for "movie of the year".
King Kong (2005)
Fabulous Special Effects but one hour too long
Loved the special effects! They were breathtaking, in more ways than one. The actors were all very good. Jack Black and Naomi Watts were great. The star of the movie, of course, was King Kong! He was amazing! He melted my heart with just a look; or scared me to death with his ferociousness. He had just a few lines (or roars) but I think he should be up the the Academy Award for Best Actor! The costumes and setting were fabulous too. The movie was a work of art. It was just an hour too long! There were scenes in the movie that did not need to be there. I think those scenes were there just to show off the special effects (which were terrific). Not sure I could sit through this movie again. I'm still a fan of the original King Kong -- it was much shorter.
An Unfinished Life (2005)
Very Good Movie
This movie was wonderful. It is not a blockbuster, but a wonderful story about people. My feelings at the end of the movie were: That was a "very good book". Robert Redford was just wonderful as a father who never got over his sons death. He played his part perfectly, for I was able to see his pain and anger in his everyday living. I was particularly taken with the little girl who plays Redfords granddaughter. She was able to get her feelings across with just a LOOK on her face. The rest of the cast were just fine, including Morgan Freeman who is ALWAYS a pleasure to watch. If you are into stories about PEOPLE and the paths they choose to take, this is a movie for you.
Sin City (2005)
Pretty Darn Awful
I was looking forward to seeing this movie. I go to the movies AT LEAST once a week, and see most everything that's "out there". I was first struck by the "black and whiteness" of this movie! Very original and very well done. Loved the little "splash of color" added every now and then. I settled in waiting for the story to develop! And I waited some more! Now I started feeling like I wanted to leave! I looked around and everyone else seemed to be enjoying the movie. The longer I stayed waiting for ANY plot to develop, the more I felt like someone was running their fingernails down a blackboard. No amount of fabulous acting (which there was)could rescue this movie for me. I wanted out!!!! This was SO bad! And I must admit the what story there was to tell, was very sad and very graphic, like that could help. P.S. My husband enjoyed the movie!
In America (2002)
A Nice Story
I liked this movie. I noticed that in some of the reviews I read for this movie, there were comments made that the movie did not seem real. There were a few things that were not realistic, and a bit hard to believe, but in storytelling, the storyteller can do what he/she wants. If I want reality, I'd turn on the news! Movies are about story telling, the way the director sees it. I liked this story! Loved the little girls in this story! I liked they're relationship with their Dad. The "new friend" that the girls bring into the family's life was so interesting. The friendship this family develops with this "new friend" is interesting to watch, especially with the youngest girl. I liked the way the little girls in this movie seem to be so accepting of the "down-on-their-luck" people that live in their same apartment building. This movie is not one I'll forget. I'd see this movie again!
