Red Faction: Guerrilla - Re-Mars-tered (2018)
Do You Like Falling Buildings?
This game is straightforward in plot and game play. The narrative is not going to blow anyone's mind because the focus of the game is instead on blowing up buildings.
You have an arsenal of different tools to smash, crash and bash your way through structures, buildings, enemy soldiers and even civilians! (Note, the game gets sad face when you murder civilians).
The vehicles are fun and the designs are neat.
BUT THE BEST FEATURE?
Ragdolling. You've seen ragdolling before, but you have not seen it like in Red Faction. This was the standout feature for me. Hilarity for days.
It's a great game to pick up and put down when you are busy so can't dedicate hours on end to a game. You can walk away for a week and easily pick up where you left off.
For the modern busy person whose life is attempting to throttle video game time, this is a great one to play for those brief moments where the obligations of existence allow you to have a modicum of free time.
Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor (2014)
Kill Your Free Time
This game is fantastic at making you go "Oh I just need to quickly do this...oh well that's only a moment away might as well get it also......hmmm I am very close to this next thing".
If you want to get lost in a game and forget the world, this one will suck you right in.
The enemy system is such a wonderful concept, they come back and change and grow. Their hatred for you is never tiring and your joy at their deaths only increases.
The combat is so fluid and comfortable plus you can set things on fire.
If you have not tried this game, 100% you should very much consider playing it.
Dead Space (2008)
It IS as good as everyone says!
I was genuinely shocked at how well this game stood up to the test of time. It's 14 years after it came out and this game actually had me on the edge of my seat.
It's a fantastic horror game which allows for players to actually play their own style, not forcing you to HAVE to focus on one weapon over another.
I had been wanting to play it for years as everyone talks about how great it is. I was worried that maybe it had aged too much but NOPE. This was more fun to play than most games I've tried recently which are far newer.
If you are considering having a fun space adventure where limbs go flying, look no further.
Issues do exist with getting this to work on PC and on console there are two parts which become difficult to complete due to controller input.
I'd advise getting it on PC myself as you can swap to Keyboard for those two moments and go back to controller afterwards.
Depending on what platform you get it on PC, will change the fixes you need to do. I got mine working with Steam, the GOG version just didn't want to play ball.
I have not minused my score because of these issues as I don't think it reflects on the game from 14 years ago and comes down to technological advances which we can't expect the past to have known about.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine (2011)
Do you like Gears of War and Warhammer?
This game was worked on by those who helped make Gears of War and God of War. You can feel the vibe from these two games in this one. It's a ton of fun.
If you want some deep story go elsewhere, this one is straightforward and is just about you, the player, being a badass Space Marine.
The weapons feel good to use and there is enough variety in them that you can have solidly different play styles.
I highly recommend this if you just want to chill out, chainsword some orks and have a little demonic fun.
Chainsword go Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
