The Beekeeper (2024)
6/10
An entertaining, though fairly stupid movie.
11 April 2024
The Beekeeper is a decently violent , sort of moronic Jason Bourne want-to-be. In it we get a Jason Statham who's more entertaining than the turgid "Wrath of Man", but falls short of his' action comedies , like "Snatch", "Expendables", and "Spy".

The action and violence are several notches above many other similar movies (though several floors below the likes of "John Wick" or "The Raid").

The movie tries to pretend it's a cerebral thriller , with commentary on avarice and political dirty dealings, but for the most part is a pretty plain revenge film.

The bad guys are annoying enough you look forward to their painful demises.

If you're looking to watch Jason Statham wander around and kill people , you could do worse.

The Grand Tour: The Grand Tour: Sand Job (2022)
Season 5, Episode 3
7/10
Nothing special, but an oddly comforting ride.

I've loved watching these guys for literal decades. And there's always been highs and lows. When they switched over to the only grand adventures format, ditching the tent, it made me happy, as my favorite parts of Top Gear and later, Grand Tour, have always been the big trips.

This episode landed pretty much in the middle for me. Way better than my least favorite (Massive Hunt), but not as good as my favs (Seaman, Eurocrash , Scandi Flick).

The one weird detail that kept bothering me was Jeremy Driving around with the top down, and no head protection, when it was supposed to be 48-50 degrees Celsius out, with a damned near equatorial sun overhead. I lived in a desert for 5 years, and whether it was real, or just a bunch of establishing shots put together, it was hard for me to imagine a 60-year-old who's got thinning hair, not getting baked to a crisp in that scenario.

Only Murders in the Building: Ghost Light (2023)
Season 3, Episode 6
10/10
One of the best episodes yet in a great series!
5 September 2023
We really loved this episode! Several supporting actors really get their moments to shine. 2023 Steve Martin revived his 1980's Steve Martin in multiple scenes. The writing almost induced a couple of spit takes. Jessie Williams is value added, has good chemistry with Selena Gomez, and we'd be on board with the Trio becoming a quartet (assuming he doesn't end up being the murderer.

There's some fun nods to theater superstitions, and while it's almost a fun stand alone episode in its own right, it still manages to propel the story along nicely.

Highly recommend the series, and this episode in particular.

Looks and sounds fantastic, and a great cast . So-so story.

Warning: Spoilers
I'm one of those dweebs who saw the original Blade Runner during it's original theatrical run. I wore out my old VHS copy , complete with VO. Even when that version fell out of favor, for decades afterwards I could supply the VO for all the people I was watching it with.

And while not all elements of the Original Film have made it unscathed to the present day , it is still a masterpiece.

So i went into 2049 with high hopes. And for the most part , they were satisfied. Gosling and Armas are fantastic, and frankly it was those two kids I was pulling for. Instead we're given the point of the film to reunite Deckard with his estranged daughter.

Jared Leto, and this may come as a shock, plays a psycho. Still not a fan.

There's plenty of very cool set pieces , but ultimately the "fate" of the story comes down in a throw down between Luv and K. K wins but is grievously injured in the process.

So the daughter is now "safe", except nothing happens to the person directing the violence , Leto's character, and so K's 'sacrifice ' may have been in vain, as presumably Leto Can just make another Luv.

As mentioned , the cinematography and soundtrack are fantastic!

Better Off Ted (2009–2010)
9/10
Another "gone too soon".

It perhaps doesn't reach the lofty heights of original 'Arrested Development', but it's not far off. It's like 'Office Space' told from the perspective of the managers . It's a pretty funny. Jay Harrington is the handsome eponymous Ted. He's fine and likable in the roll of single dad, handsome bachelor, and Star middle manager. I like Deadpool and generally don't my 4th wall breaking . It took me awhile to warm up to it here (it's done and only done by Ted ), which is a tad unfortunate, because the whole series is only 26 episodes.

The fake ads for Veridian are pretty funny in season one, but a little hit or miss thereafter.

Portia de Rossi steals the show as Ted's boss.
