American Conspiracy: The Octopus Murders (2024)
Intriguing documentary series
A well produced , written, filmed, scored and edited , though typical 'Neflixeske' series which ends a bit obscure. The build up is quit intriguing and creates a sense of what 'getting devoured by conspiracy theories
' feels likes, suddenly at the close of the series, jumps the shark by taking , in my opinion, the easy way out.
I might be wrong if there there's a season 2 with more compelling proof and follow-ups to all the claims made in this series but for now I'm rating this high because of the quality and entertainment value. This review is based on a single binge watch of the complete series. Compliments to the body of work that went into gathering everything into one series.
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)
Strange but true
How can this version of another MI movie get scores above 6/10 is proof of bot reviews I believe
This is a bear shell of old glory
The main thing that left me simmering on after sitting trough 3hour of this is; awkwardness
-the deadpan closeups of faces and head nods
-the "I'm getting to old for this" "run Tom run scenes
-the OMG what a strange characters
-the forces emotional scenes
-the villain is laughable and borderline Scientology propaganda
-the pace of this 1 hour too long borefest
And most disappointing of all is the lack of conclusive action scenes. They are just boring and time consuming
One of the worst Tom Cruise and production team eggs in a long time
Advice : watch any other MI, they're just better.
Shoah (1985)
Existential important film
This viewing experience should be basic education for every human being. To be taken onto this journey and listen to the brave survivors recanting their horrific experience and seeing with your own eyes what the human species is capable of, is simply earth shattering and edged into one's memory for a life time.
What else can I say but , experience this film , it's existential , brutal, deeply emotional, and one of the most important film archive I have ever experienced.
Be prepared to carry a burden after seeing this for quit a time. It's not an easy thing to watch and hear but it might be one of the most important ones in your life.
Chris Rock: Selective Outrage (2023)
Stand up icon of our age
Mr. Rock redefined the meaning of "hitting back"
Impressive performance on a level that makes him match the best moments of Richard Prior, George Carlin, Eddy Murphy. A genuine first live on Netflix if that isn't impressive enough, Always been a fan but this solidifies my believes that Chris Rock is one of the most defining stand up comedians of our time. This show had me in tears at both sides of the spectrum. The experience is filled with intelligent sharp observations and call outs to the signs of our time that define our cultures and differences as a humans all over the world. Thank you for this big, bright and shiny mirror Mr. Rock... mic drop!
The Last of Us (2023)
It's OK
Gamers that finally have a decent show about their favorite game come in hordes to mislead the ratings on this show. Don't get me wrong this is a good tv show , bench worthy but at the current standing or 9,4 overall it's way too hyped and over rated.
Acting is of a decent standard but I've seen much better.
Music is kind of lame , they should have hired the original composer. His guitar work is absolutely stellar and the current score is just a cheap knock off and attempt to capture the original unique sound of "the Last of Us" game
To summarize; good show and beautifully crafted scenes (8/10) Story line and acting (6/10) = overall 7 stars from me.
Moonfall (2022)
So bad it's good
This is so incredible bad on so many levels it's starting to become a good movie. Incredible low depths of storytelling and a high school acting by Hollywood stars is an absolute joy to watch. Is this a parody or is then a genuine attempt. I'm intrigued how paid for this shallow pooshow. If they kept it to just generic sleep inducing pulp on the screen it would be just a comedy, but the attempt to inject a political statement at the end of this pooshow just convinces us to never watch anything that comes out of this backward production company. Gimme a break, 2 hours lost I'm not getting back. Thanks.
Synecdoche, New York (2008)
Pretentious
I did not enjoy this at all
Highly recommended by many cinebuffs that I respect but this was definitely one bridge too far for me.
Absurd, morbid, over-complicated, no fun, dark and made me feel like I've been wasting my time.
I know Kaufman intended this to be a personal experience, but... I rather not again
Now give me some Marvell BS to level Sht out a bit.
Cocaine Cowboys: The Kings of Miami (2021)
A shell without a core
To me this feels like a cheap cashin on the, so much better prequels, Cocaine cowboys (9/10) and Cocaine Cowboys reloaded (7/10). This is more exposition and takes a very very long time to get to the point.
The music is done OK but also lacks the real 80's vibe compared to the original
I rather spent my time rewatching The other two.
This Is a Robbery: The World's Biggest Art Heist (2021)
Good docu , terrible music
A bit trivial approach to the story and a bit sensationalized. But the music is really really bad.
Shame they didn't invest in a suitable composer for this project.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps (2020)
Beautiful engaging
Totally engaging and mesmerizing game with music that stays with you for a long time. Storyline is grabbing emotionally strings on many levels . Highly recommended experience
The War (2007)
For all future generations
This beautiful work of art touches the heart and soul.
Truly one of the best things ever written and constructed in film.
I've seen it five times and still moves me to my core
Thank you mr Ward and mr Burns for this most important piece of historic telling for us an all our future generations
Stanley H. (2019)
IRT: internationally recommended TVseries
Well acted, great story telling and character development. High class editing and camerawork.
Overall: a production surpassing its limited production budget
First Man (2018)
Shaky can dissaster
Motionssickness evoking shaky cam fest.
What a shame, such a great story wasted by bad "artistic" camera work
Unwatchable!
Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne (2019)
......... yeah, no words
I'd love to submit an empty review, just to express the levels of depth in this sagas conclussion.
Undercover (2019)
Surprisingly well delivered
Well acted, shot, written, directed and polished.
One of the first new generation Dutch productions on HBO level.
Surprisingly this one was a true binge watch.
Game of Thrones: The Last of the Starks (2019)
Nothing left
This used to be a show that kept you on the edge of your seat.
That unsullied escort at the end is perfect metaphor for what is left of this story.
Game of Thrones: The Long Night (2019)
Incompatible writers with next gen tech directing
This feels like a major let down story wise.
It's like someone found the keys to daddy's classic cars collection garage and went wild on a joyride.
A historical impressive tv spectacle with an all time low in character development and story arc conclusion.
Please don't rely to much on HDR and ultra high resolution HBO. The first part of this episode is hardly watchable!
Hope for the best for the series conclusion
Wakefield (2016)
Lost time
This move got me intrigued for a while and I specifically waiting and avoided to read or see any reviews because I wanted to experience this movie from a blank slate. when we got the end credits of this movie I was left with a feeling of '2-hours lost i'm never getting back' What a waste of time and talent. I can sit for hours and watch Bryan Cranston act but this whole execution of an attempt to make a movie was a total miss by it's creators. Cranston is amazing to see and hear and to see him pull this sloppy story and script off with the class he brings is a a miracle. The makeup was terrible and inconsistent. The music score didn't know what it wanted to be (minimalistic, adventurous, Clint-Eastwoodesk Piano style, Jazz, Noir..) it's all over the place. The Down Syndrome actors where a disgrace to watch at, the director or editor or casting agent should be ashamed for the way these characters are brought to the screen and the way the are portrait as story filler / forced-endearing tool. There's more then smiling, pointing and repeating names and words! And the most disappointing thing of it all. The ending! I understand you want to play off the whole 'open end' feeling, but this is just bad bad writing and cinematic execution. We do not need any more discomfort at the end, it's been enough of that sitting through it all.
