The Legend of Six Fingers (2013)
B-Roll: the Movie
Have you ever been to the woods? Yeah? Been to a creek in the woods? Great! That's at least 1/3 of the film.
The movie is mostly b-roll, and general tomfoolery compiled into over an hour of big foot hunting.
Could you live without seeing this movie? For sure. Should you live without seeing it? Probably.
But, if for some odd reason you choose to take a gander, just know, you've been forewarned. From the loose storyline, to the poor acting and the copious amounts of nature footage, this isn't a great use of your time.
Do you, though. Just know, this film is what it is. . . And what it is ain't great.
Come Outside (2021)
I've never seen anything like it. . .
This review is for the 83 minute film, Come Outside (2022).
First, hats off to filmmakers of color. Way to make a way for yourself and thank you to Tubi for supporting Black films. Also, kudos for thinking outside of the box with regard to plot and ideas.
That being said, what in the entire world is this??? It feels like there was significantly more background and/or information that the viewer isn't privy to in this film. Maybe it was in the book, but didn't make it into the film due to time limitations? Our suggestion would be a script supervisor who isn't also the writer. Just because a film or script makes sense in the head of the creator doesn't mean it'll make sense to anyone else, and this doesn't. It's a hodgepodge of chaotic, hotep-adjacent, tweet-into-the-void platitudes that when coupled with stiff, bad acting leaves you laughing in incredulity at just how bad this film really is. Let's not forget about the score. Again, WHAT?????? Like, who compiled this random potpourri of a playlist that carried on in the background of this attempt at "edutainment." Come Outside is what happens when there's a modicum of creativity that gains enough traction to secure funding, without oversight and honest feedback.
Legend of Paul Pry (2022)
My boy. . .
This was hard to watch. The lack of a script and reliance on ad libs for dialogue was tiresome, to say the least. The plot was nearly nonexistent and if you asked me what this movie was about, I'd say folks in the country riding around and making bad decisions. The constantly moving camera angles were enough to make one seasick. At 66 minutes, this could have been a real gem. Instead, it's a struggle. I look forward to marked improvements for the next film, beginning with the lack of a blaccent by white characters. I will say, I rooted for Paul Pry to get each and every character on screen, my boy.
Zombie (2021)
Are you kidding me?
This was an epic fail. I'm not sure if the other reviews came from the director and actors, but they couldn't be more disingenuous. This film was slow, dull, boring and lacked any cinematic elements to keep the audience engaged. I went from not caring about the characters to hoping something awful happened to them. The pacing is INCREDIBLY SLOW. So much so that we paused to check how much longer we had until the closing credits, no less than 4 times. . . In a 73 minute attempt at a movie. The script lacked imagination and anything that approached intrigue. I wish the cast and director the best of luck in their future endeavors because this mess ain't it chief.
Stay Out (2022)
Mmmmmm. . .
*double sigh*
So the first review I wrote was very honest, but seemed harsh.
Kudos to Carroll for never giving up on his dream, no matter the quality of his endeavors. While I'd like to say more great things about this film, I'm unable to.
It was a time consuming undertaking to watch at 1 hr, 9 minutes. I appreciate the attempt at handling challenging subject matter that many in American politics today try to eschew, but there needs to be greater attention to script and film editing (Were the car scenes filmed in a storage unit and meant to be fixed in post?), as well as makeup, especially for the cast's darker skinned members. How can you create a film meant to feature such lovely skin tones, then take NO CARE WHATSOEVER, to highlight their beauty with the smallest amount of makeup?
The plot could have been developed into something intriguing and wonderful - but wasn't. Maybe instead of churning out multiple offerings each year, this writer/director/producer could focus on creating fewer, quality works that are enjoyable and easier to support. We certainly look forward to that day!
Coronapocalypse (2021)
Ummm. . .
So. . . I think this movie is the result of a PPP loan scam. They took out the loan, and then when the government came knocking to see what they did with the money, folks were like, "Oh snap! Let's hurry up and make a movie to show them what we did!" I've seen better acting in school plays and the script - was there a script? Like, who thought this was a great idea? Did they watch it before putting it out? I'm so annoyed that it lasted as long as it did. WHO authorized this? WHO????
Everyone involved needs to rethink their life choices. It so bad, it's offensive. WHAT was the reason? Why do you hate film so very much? Why not put some actual effort or planning into this?
The camera doesn't even keep up with the characters. And there are SO MANY characters. All these panning shots for no real reason. Why? Why did y'all do this?
Just no. Absolutely NO.
