Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022)
Rehashing while removing any form of substance
It's pretty much what you'd expect from any modern interpretation of a work of passion that became a cultural phenomenon. Any form of substance in the characters or dilemmas in ethics is replaced by completely superficial character moments and cartoonish interpretations of 'good' and 'bad'. Logically the show tries to compensate for it's lack of substance with flashy cgi and by trying to recreate the now nostalgic aesthetics of TOS, yet for all the 'faithfulness' to the original series the vainness is abundantly clear.
From the first few episodes it becomes evident that the writers prefer to 'be inspired' by older plotlines instead of making any attempt to tell a story of their own, or better yet to straight up plagiarize them.
Overall if you're a Star Trek fan don't be expect to be surprised. It's nothing more than another post Discovery era series like the rest of them.
Yip Man: Zong shi jue xing (2021)
Bad in every way possible
It feels like a joke without a punchline. It hits every cliché trope on the book with such glaring obviousness that you have to convince yourself it's a parody of the genre if you just wanna get through it.
Every scene is oversaturated to such a degree that at times you feel like you're watching some cheap traveling agency's promotional video, and for some odd reason the action scene's camerawork forgoes the iconic Chinese style of continuous clear shots that make the choreography shine and replaces it with the horrific quick cutting Hollywood style of shooting while executing it in the worst possible way.
Overall this movie has made every single choice a terrible one and lessens an otherwise very decent franchise.
