Amsterdam (2022)
It's incredulous who gets the funding... really a 1 out of 10, but isn't unpleasant in the background
Having come through, and well and truly left 'The Second Golden Age of Television' behind, it's still completely baffling how wish washy lame and pretty much plotless films and tv series are now getting all the funding.
While this pointless film, with an all star cast and what seems like a very generous budget, doesn't grate upon one like the dismal failures of, say Fargo Season Four, it's pretty much in the same category... which would be akin to 1980's supermarket shelf romantic fiction paperback novels. There's literally nothing original, interesting or even vaguely suspense driven about it.
It has a gentle tone about it, which prevents it from infusing an infuriating feeling of wasting one's time, but it is 99% exactly like 1990s pop-jazz elevator music.
But it is aggravating, because there is obviously even talent and money involved for it to be really good.
Who is writing this crap!?
It reeks of nepotism and young-Millenial-meets Gen-z's elites who seem Yo have zero grit/absolutely no first hand life experience amd are completely unwilling to venture out of the ever closing-in-walls of what's 'socially acceptable'.
The blame for this utter waste of money and time most likely falls on every executive and hands on producers involved, but not off the hook are the writers and directors, and even actors who choose to be involved.
But essentially, the blame is on the financial backers, be gigantic corporations like Amazon, or a mix of highly propaganda oriented media companies.
Sadly, the result is the same - utterly boring story telling.
Let's just hope that this dark age of fiction media story telling doesn't last too much longer. Sigh.
Cocaine Bear (2023)
Comedy- Horror amd 80's nostalgia that gets it just right.
Mostly all fun, with some bearable gruesome moments, character's, mostly played by top actors who are really cute in it.
Great idea for a comedy produced and executed really well. Bewitched few horror bits, it's really sweet, a bit of crime drama sprinkled with some sugar.
What pastiche comedies drawing on 80s/90s cinema should be like. This production crew, the actors and all involved get it just right. 9 out of ten because ,10 out of 10 would have me studying its genius for five years.
Bravo, mazeltov, etc... who, of vague intellect, wouldn't enjoy Cocaine Bear!?
This producers seem in agreement considering the top notch current film and tv actors involved.
And if you want to venture down a different road, it could be views as a comment of cocaines effect on the film industry I'm it's current shape in the USA.
Cha Cha Real Smooth (2022)
Dreamlike rather than reality
So the main guy, Andrew (Mr. Raif) is, in real-life terms, a calm and wise 38-year-old character presented as a 22-year-old.
This lays the ground work for a very surreal confluence of relationships between an autistic daughter of the beautiful thirtysomething-year-old Bella, her autistic daughter who can relate to most people, but 22-year old Andrew seems to have a knack for dealing with Austistic female young woman?
It then meanders along, trying to make a plot out of the the characters, but with no real plot.
The sets, characters, clothes and dialogues of this series make it very vague. 1990s or present.
I think this series has come out of a poetic feeling rather than a solid premise.
It's not enlightening, or even educational, but still thought provokingt and quite watchable.
Just don't get put off by some of the lazy script writing.
