What is this, Spiderman Twilight?
3 November 2023
By the time it's over you're sick of hearing "Are you ok" over and over. I swear it's like emo teenagers on first dates. How this got the reviews it did I'll never know. Luckily the main Avengers movies didn't take this route, even though the last two got a little flaky at times.

The scenes with other Avengers save this from being a complete disaster, and the one part in the underground jail where Willem Dafoe says that line ruins the immersion.

With how dark the Thanos storyline was I suppose they had to take a lighter approach to the Spiderman story.

After this long Tom Hollands Spiderman should carry himself with a little more maturity, it's a shame it doesn't show through.

Does this movie even know what it is? Comedy, sci-fi, action or what?
18 October 2023
Seriously there were times I had to pause and replay parts because I couldn't believe what someone said.

This oozes of a film directed by someone who doesn't quite grasp the potential of what they have. This could have been an epic sci-fi adventure that would keep me on the edge of my seat until the end but instead it bounces all over with dialog that is incoherent, irrelevant, even immature at times. Some of it is so quiet you'd swear Christopher Nolan made it.

I'd go lower than 5 if it weren't for the awesome CGI, but even that is tough because Niel Blomkamp did amazing things with the tech available way back then, and District 9 was amazing.

Generic
1 August 2023
From the intro you get the idea this is another generic murder mystery. Certainly doesn't hold up in 2023, maybe years ago when I first saw it as a rental from Rogers video. But not today. Must be Hilary Swank's breakout role because her character is as forgettable as the plot.

Reminds me of the video game Alan Wake, in fact I'm sure Remedy stole some ideas from this movie for the game, such as the intro plane scene, the camera cut to the sign of the town name.

Pacino...forgettable.

The hotel staff...forgettable.

If you're on a Chris Nolan kick like I am after Oppenheimer don't bother with this, just watch Tenet for the 3rd or 4th time and lets all try to figure that out together.

Not at all what it seemed
26 January 2023
You know how you get your hopes up so high that you can only be disappointed well this is where forspoken left me feeling.

It starts out with a seriously disappointing intro level that barely passes for a game from 10 years ago. Not only visually but gameplay wise as well. For first impressions this part nearly made me quit altogether. After about 30 or 40 minutes you reach a new zone that starts to explain the steep system requirements but still doesn't really give that wow factor.

Then there's the character. This probably finished it for me. Her attitude may fit the intro where she's down on her luck but it soon grows tiresome and never really let's up. And that's the part the doesn't fit the game. Plus she adapts to her new skills far too easily for this seasoned gamer. Give this one a pass for now especially at the ridiculous price they launched it at, $93 CAD.

How does this warrant a 7
1 December 2022
Ok maybe during covid lockdowns people were desperate for some / any form of action movie so this gets a pass on that alone. The scenes were easily done on a budget, the writing not much more either. Poor Odenkirks back must be sore from carrying this entire production.

One small example, his background is hardly explained through the entire film, but the family seems to be oddly at ease with whatever slaughtering he does at home while they're locked away downstairs, and again when house shopping it was a requirement the new place have a basement. I wasn't sure to laugh or just smirk it off.

And Chris Lloyd, my gosh I guess it was his pleasure to act again but the poor guy would be knocked over by his own shotgun blast, nevermind the guy he shot at.

I hope nobody was as bored as I was tonight and picks a different movie.

Too many crossovers, fragments, etc.
4 October 2022
The character of Dr Strange deserved another movie but not like this. So many areas I could touch on, the crossovers from other franchises, the fast pace that doesn't let the story expand, the extra heroes from other universes, there's so much to take in.

Casting of the new superhero is fine, I can let that slide, but the writing is clearly meant to cater to the same generation, so if you were born before 1980 don't get too excited before you see this film.

Purists will likely be disappointed that Dr S didn't get a true sequel at least what I Was expecting.

There is a pretty big giveaway that more is to come so at least perhaps the 3rd movie will redeem things, as long as Raimi isn't at the helm.

When Geoffrey Wright yells you better listen

Not sure if a 3 hour movie was a good thing or bad but for a prequel it probably didn't need to be this long.

But I'll give them credit for not cutting the little details. Pattinson was ok, certainly not the worst super hero actor.

The writers should be embarrassed

The only good part of this episode was that black bodysuit the raver girl wore. You can tell by the thumbnail and the gaudy makeup that it's going to be a stinker.
