The Terminal List (2022)
Interesting at times but mostly disappointing
Well made but unfortunately resorts to cliches and lazy plot devices too often. Probably could have been about 4 hours shorter as well.
I like Chris Pratt but this wasn't the role for him. It was too serious and he's not a good enough dramatic actor to pull this off.
The Mansion (2013)
Surprising
This came as a bit of a surprise. Clearly very low budget but actually had a nice post-apocalyptic feel to it and most of the cast did a decent job.
Worth a look for anyone who enjoys the end of the world genre.
Beneath Hill 60 (2010)
Decent enough but ...
An interesting story that was well shot and mostly well acted. The only thing that stops me rating it higher was that the writing used a lot of really cliched tension building tactics that distracted from what were naturally tense situations.
It's understandable that the "pacing" in a war movie is somewhat unrealistic because in reality there is a lot of standing around waiting in war but when things are actually happening there is no need to artificially create tension. It's a war! It's tense by default ...
The Umbrella Academy (2019)
Very Creative
Across the first two seasons this grew on me quite nicely with a good cross section of characters and a creative style. The third season looked great but was a touch disappointing when compared to the previous two.
The new characters probably didn't work out but I'm still keen to watch a 4th season if it gets renewed.
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021)
A Surprise
Much better than I thought it would be. In fact, probably better than most of the original Resident Evil films. Was pretty good to look at and the special affects were impressive considering I doubt it had a big budget.
Not a classic by any means but still worth a look.
Uncharted (2022)
Somewhat Entertaining
In Fleischer's career thus far he has shown a real ability to make the most of the chemistry between his cast. It elevated movies that would have otherwise been fairly pedestrian affairs into pretty enjoyable experiences. Surprisingly he wasn't able to do the same here. Considering that's actually a strength of both Holland and Wahlberg made it even more surprising.
Overall it was entertaining enough but can't help but feel it was a missed opportunity.
