The Ghost (2022)
An engaging action thriller with mind blowing action sequences
Just watched The Ghost on Netflix and I must tell that it is not-so-bad but decent action-packed entertainer for action movie lovers with power-packed action sequences and performances being the highlight of the film.
After a decent family outing 'Bangarraju' and fantasy film 'Brahmastra', Nagarjuna is back in his beast mode like the actor's previous movie 'Shiva' and Keanu Reeves's 'John Wick' and has brought out acting chops well. His fans would really like his intense mode in the film. Sonal Chauhan's role is not typical and is superb in action sequences. Watch her killing mode in the climax sword fight. Gul Palang did her best in her role as a businesswoman-cum-caring mother and 'Yennai Arindhaal' Anikha Surendran also did well in her role. Other actors like Ravi Varma, Srikanth Iyengar and Manish Chaudhari also did well in their roles.
The film's action sequences are the plus points of the film as they are well choreographed by Dilip Subbarayan and Kecha Khampadkee, and provides thrills. Music by Bharatt-Saurabh is forgettable snd unnecessary for a violent action film, but the background score by Mark. K. Robin is superb. Cinematography and editing helps the film and is good. Now Coming to director Praveen Sattaru, he has done a superb job by showcasing Nagarjuna in a stylish way and deserves mention for the action sequences. However, the antagonist characterization is weak and emotional weight is not effective. If the director would have taken care of these things, then it would have been converted into a franchise like John Wick.
Barring all these things, The Ghost can be enjoyed with its cast performances, action sequences and background score, but the antagonist characterization, emotional weight has spoilt it. Overall, this is a review from a normal-audience movie junk and watch this action packed-entertainer on Netflix with decent expectations for action film lovers.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)
A mass masala fantasy entertainer with state-of-the-art action choreography and CGI/VFX
If you remove superhero genre from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), then there will be commercial elements like action, drama, romance, comedy and thriller which can be described as mass masala genre in India and Shang-Chi is no different.
Simu Liu has done a good work as Shang-Chi and also excels in emotional, comical and action skills which shows the actor's dedication towards acting. Tony Leung as Wenwu is splendid and can be described as his career-best performance in his MCU/Hollywood debut and has style, swag is unmatchable. Awkwafina as Katy is splendid in her role and her comic timing is good. Hollywood comedian Ben Kingsley's continuation role of Trevor Slattery is hilarious and cameo appearence of Benedict Wong and Fala Chen is good and Meng'er Zhang is superb as a rebellious woman with grey shades.
Action sequences from beginning to climax are goosebumps-worthy as every scene is packed with splendid martial arts choreography which is the highest point in the film and the climax between Shang-Chi and Wenwu is fantastic which makes MCU fans keep whistling and have edge-of-the-seat moments. Destin Daniel Cretton's direction is splendid and writing gives a fresh concept, though the story might be familiar. The VFX and CGI are praiseworthy which makes the film to watch in theatres and now i regret it for not watching the film in theatres. Editing and Cinematography are splendid.
Overall, Shang-Chi is a mass masala entertainer with fantasy quotient laced with masala commercial elements to enthrall Hollywood and Indian audience to watch the film. The cast performance, terrific action sequences and strong antagonist makes the film as a worthy watch. Watch it in DSNP Hotstar for a feel-good mass fantasy entertainer.
Fast & Furious 7 (2015)
Top class and stylishly set OTT action entertainer
Hollywood who is famous for artistic and mass entertainers has given another mass entertainer in the form of Furious 7. Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Paul Walker, Djimon Hounsou, Michelle Rodriguez and Jason Statham are highlight point performers in the film. The action stunts and car chases are very entertaining and slick. Other actors like Tony Jaa, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Kurt Russell, Ronda Rousey and Jordana Brewster also did well in the roles.
Talking about action sequences as i mentioned were well-directed and enjoyable with young kids if you ignore the fake CBFC ratings (Though some nudity is there, it should not be considered for A certificate). Cinematography and editing by Christian Wagner & co. (Dylan Highsmith, Kirk Morri Leigh Folsom Boyd) and Stephen F. Windon, Marc Spicer has done a good job. Music by Brian Tyler is really good.
Overall, Furious 7 is a mass entertainer for its action, performance and technical aspects where it can be considered as an emotional tribute to walker.
Bheeshmaparvam (2022)
A stylized-massy adaptation of Godfather with terrific action sequences, background score and 80s timeline making
Today I watched Bheeshma Parvam in DSNP Hotstar and this is one of the stylish mass entertainers that I witness in Malayalam cinema after Kaduva. After CIA, Amal Nareed is back with another stylized crime drama laced with action and mass moments. Megastar Mammotty does a good job in playing a crime boss like Al Pacino in 1972 Godfather and some of the dialogues are praiseworthy. Though I was sad that i missed in theatres after seeing it in Hotstar. It was enjoyable. Shine Tom Chacko and Farhaan Faasil does a superb job in playing brothers who want to kill their crime boss uncle (Mammotty's character) and is good in acting skills. Sreenath Bhasi, Soubin Shahir and Nadhiya Moidu are also well played in their roles and the thing is that the woman characters are somewhat mentally strong which is a plus points in the film. Other actors like Dileesh Pothan, Harish Uthaman, Anasuya Bharadwaj Abu Salim, Nedumudi Venu, K. P. A. C. Lalitha also did justice to their roles.
Talking about the making, the action sequences choreographed by Supreme Sundar are stylish and superb which makes it entertaining. Cinematography and editing by Vivek Harshan and
Anend C. Chandran, along with Sushin Shyam's background score is excellent. Amal Nareed does a splendid job in direction and writing but the slow pace makes us yawning. The twist are predictable but was shown in a different way. It was really good. If John wick would be remade in Malayalam, then Amal Nareed is the only director who can remake it.
Overall, Bheeshma Parvam is a good entertainer with stylized violence, 80's timeline, performances and technical aspects with its positive points but the negative points are its slow pace. Go watch this stylized mass entertainer in DSNP Hotstar if you like slow paced crime dramas like Godfather.
Walking Tall (2004)
A decent vigilante film with massive action blocks despite being predictable
Walking tall is a crisper, fast-paced action thriller film with good performances, action sequences, set-pieces and making. Dwayne Johnson pays a tribute to the real-Walking Tall Buford Peaser and is apt in the role. He is perfect in acting and action front. John Beasly gives a memorable performances as the father of Dwayne Johnson's character. Ashley Scott as apt in her acting skill, but is an eyecandy in the film. Michael Bowen performances as corrupt sheriff is convincing. Neal McDonough is apt in his role and is also menacing and villianous.
Action scenes are well choreographed and well performed by Dwayne Johnson, which is the highlight of the film. They are realistic and provide adernaline thrills. Music by Graeme Revell, Editing by George Bowers and Glen MacPherson's Cinematography are top notch. Kevin Bray's direction is good and the court scene is the main highlight and executed well. He also adopted the biographical action thriller and made a good tribute to 1973 original.
Overall, Walking Tall is a good movie to watch which is fast-paced. Go watch it on Prime Video for a fast-realistic-action entertainer, if you want to see the indianized-version of this entertainer, then Watch Sarrainodu (2016) which is inspired from this film.
One piece: Omatsuri danshaku to himitsu no shima (2005)
An edge-of-the-seat enjoyable anime fantasy masala entertainer
Though there are some of the worst and best anime and animated films. One piece: Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island, keeps you hooked till the end. The script is gripping and entertainingly humorous. The comedy scenes is ribtickingly funny and I had a good laugh this Thursday. Director Mamoru Hosoda should be applauded for choosing a film and keep us engaged and entertained till the end, along with the writer Masahiro Ito's hardwork should be appreciated for adapting the manga and providing us with clean comedy, terryfing and powerful climax. Masahiro Goto's editing and Tomokazu Shiratori's cinematography is the main highlight of the film, and the music, along with BGM are Kohei Tanaka are somewhat praiseworthy. The film is enjoyable with families and kids, and it is not a dark anime also.
One Piece: Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island is a superb enjoyable masala entertainer with good writing and engaging story with LOL comedy. If you want to enjoy One Piece movie other than 1000 episodes. Watch this movie and enjoy this swashbuckling fantasy masala entertainer.
iSmart Shankar (2019)
Ismart Shankar: An enjoyable commercial action flick with doses of MASS ACTION AND GLAMOUR
THE KING OF MASS ACTION ENTERTAINERS PURI JAGANNATH IS BACK WITH A BANG IN ISMART SHANKAR.
Ram as a street-smart assassin does a good job with his body language and mass dialogues. Nabha Natesh as a LADY ARJUN REDDY is superb in dialogue delivery and dubbing is also good. Niddhi Aggarwal is also good in her role as a neuroscientist, but sometimes turn into a crying baby in her character. Raj Deepak Shetty and Ashish Vidyarthi are superb in their negative roles.
Action sequences by Real Sathish are realistic and entertaining and provide goosebumps in this entertainer along with Mani Sharma, whose two songs Ismart and Dimaak Kharaab are a treat to hear. Cinematography and editing by Raj Thota and Junaid Siddiqui are superb. Coming to the director, Puri Jagannath's direction is good like in his previous movies Pokiri, Businessman and Temper. He has given a proper commercial film with high entertainment in form of mass action and glamour of the actresses. Though the story is somewhat predictable, he cleverly added Hollywood-styled concept and doesn't shy away from the theme.
Ismart Shankar is a entertaining commercial action thriller with high doses of glamour and mass action and is entertaining for youth. If you somewhat feel bored, then watch this mass entertainer in ZEE5 for a DIMAAK KHARAAB entertainment.
Kaduva (2022)
Kaduva: An Energetic enjoyable action entertainer
The people tells that Malayalam films are only famous for their plot and content, but NO They are also famous for MASS ENTERTAINERS ALSO like Ayyappanum Koshiyum, Lucifer and Narasimham. Here comes another addition in the form of new film Kaduva. Kaduva is a superb mass entertainer where Telugu and Kannada mass entertainers lose in front of this. Malayalam produces good mass entertainers rather than Telugu as they only follow only routine template without adding any fresh changes.
Though a template film, Kaduva brings a fresh entertainer without adding any romance, duet songs and OTT buildups for the hero, but brings a character-based movies. This film is what which Allu Arjun's Pushpa didn't achieve: Background score. Background score by Jakes Bejoy is simply superb and adds re-watch value. Cinematography and editing by Shameer Muhammed and Abinandhan Ramanujam are good, but they should have made the film 10 minutes short.
After his hilarious film "Bro Daddy" and thrillers "Kuruthi" and "Jana Gana Mana", Prithviraj is back with a bang with this enjoyable entertainer and the character is different from the real Kaduvakunnel Kurvachan, as the character is an attitude-based mass character. Vivek Oberoi as the egoistic DIG is also good, but his character should be made somewhat stronger. It doesn't matter. Samyuktha Menon, Rahul Madhav, Seema, Priyanka Nair also did well in their roles, along with other actors like "Drishyam" and "Brother's Day" fame Shahjohn (is the main highlight as an egoistic SI character).
The best part of the movie was the action sequences from the beginning to the climax. Well choreographed by Kannal Kannan and "Mafia" Sasi, especially the Jail fight, pre-climax and climax. It was very enjoyable. Coming to the writer and director Shaji Kailas and Jinu. V. Abraham did a good job with the film. Though the movie was somewhat predictable, It had some lines of Narasimham and Ayyappanum Koshiyum.
Overall, Kaduva is an enjoyable entertainer with towering performances, well-choreographed action sequences with style. The only problem was the length, but keeping that aside. The movie is an enjoyable action entertainer which action lovers can see on Amazon Prime Video.
Baby Driver (2017)
A fast-paced action film with only one word: KING-Sized ENTERTAINMENT
Baby Driver is a fast paced action thriller which is slick, stylish and superbly-musically-visually-cinematic. This cinematic fest can be watched by action-stylish-heist/music lovers.
Ansel Elgort does a good job in the role and is superb as a tinnitus-music freak-driver. Lily James as a waitress and love interest is cool on screen and cute where her chemistry with Ansel Elgort is superb. Jamie Foxx is menacing as a homicide robber. Jon Hamm and Eiza González are superb in their villanism roles. Kevin Spacey is also good, especially in climax.
Action sequences are slick and mindblowing where it provide thrills-after-thrillls and the other technical aspects where the editing, cinematography and music by Steven Price, Paul Machliss and Jonathan Amos, Bill Pope are top notch in the film. Director and writer Edgar Wright should be praised by bringing out a stylized film which is remixes of musicals, Tarantino violence and writing. This movie's genre can be called Hollywood's SPICY, SEXY movie of 2017.
Overall, Baby Driver is a romantic-drama laced with dark humour, heist and action genres. Tarantino's violence and writing, along with the stylized making, slick car chases and action are superb. Watch it on Amazon Prime Video for a cool-monsoon entertainer.
Beast (2022)
Beast mode with underdeveloped story and characters spiced with Vijay's stardom
Beast is a stylishly-set action thriller with dark comedy, background score, action sequences and cast performances are the engaging factors of the film and can be called as a spiritual successor of Pokkiri (as the famous dialogue Oru Vaati Mudivu Panta, Yen Pecha Naane Kekka Maaten is told in the interval and ending)
Vijay excels as a robotic killing machine like the director's previous film Doctor. He is superb in acting and action skills. Pooja Hegde has nothing to do and is an eyecandy, but she is good in her role. Yogi Babu and Redin Kingsley are apt in the roles and evoke good laughs along with Mahaali, Killi and VTU Ganesh. Selvaraghavan shines in his role as a goverment agent and Shine Tom Chako's performance is emotional when he talks to his (character) child, Shaji Chen, Lilliput and Ankur Ajit Vikal play good, but their antagonist characterisation was weak, which is a drawback.
Music and Background score by Anirudh are magnifying especially Arabic Kuthu song. Action sequences by KGF fame Anbariv are jaw-dropping, OTT but magnifyingly skillful and entertaining. Cinematography and Editing by
Manoj Paramahamsa and R. Nirmal are top notch in which the plane chase, skate fight scene and graphic violence are top-notch. Nelson's direction is brilliant after Doctor, but his writing is little weak as he used only the superstardom of Vijay and the characters are only minor characters. Had he concentrated on writing. The output would have been better.
Overall, Beast is a skillful action thriller which is spiced with superstardom of Vijay, who is the main highlight of the film. Watch this dark action-comedy entertainer on SUN NXT and NETFLIX on May 11 with a pack of popcorn instead of believing negative reviews as the review is written by a Having-no-expectation cinema audience.
Salaga (2021)
A stylized action thriller made into a gangster flick
Salaga is a stylized/raw action thriller which is made into a gangster film, with gritty violence, raw action, writing, music and direction are the main aspects of the film.
Duniya Vijay gives a knockout performance in acting as well as in writing and direction, along with Daali Dhananjay in a 'Khadak' cop. The roles of Duniya Vijay and Daali Dhananjay reminds me of 2017 Korean film The Outlaws, but was made with a difference. Sanjana Anand is also given much scope for acting and does well in the film. Achyuth Kumar, 'Kavaludaari' fame Sampath Maitreya, Yashwanth Shetty, Chennakeshava and Neenasam Ashwath did their roles well.
The film's main highlight are the action sequences by Jolly Bastin and Vinod are stylish, raw and gory, which can be enjoyed by action and gangster film lovers. Cinematography by Shiva Sena and soundtrack by Charan Raj and Naveen Sajju are entertaining for the youth. Dialogues by Maasthi are hard-hitting and entertaining. Credits should go to Duniya Vijay for making and direction as he gave a wonderful film with a splendid team. His work in Salaga is splendid without adding any OTT buildup and song-dance sequences.
Therefore, Salaga is a gift for action lovers and Duniya Vijay and Daali Dhananjay's fans. If JioCinema/Sun NXT would have released a full version instead of a trimmed version, then it would have been more enjoyable. Watch it on Jio Cinema/Sun NXT for a massive entertainer.
