The Strangers (2008)
10/10
This made me scared to walk through my house.
1 June 2008
WOW. WOW. WOW.

This is another one of those, "even scarier because it could actually happen" movies. And it could, obviously. No superpowers, no living after death, no invincible serial killer... it's all right here in reality. Things like this really happen, and, as always, that's what makes a scary movie significant in 99.9% cases.

A recently-unhappier couple stay for the night in a remote area, rather far from civilization, but not totally in the middle of nowhere. The three masked strangers, begin to stalk them in newly-unique ways- ways that exceed suspense consisted in "Halloween" or "Black Christmas". This is an upgrade in suspense, for sure. My teeth still hurt from biting down so hard for so long.

If you are even the least bit interested in JUST SUSPENSE, SEE THIS MOVIE!!!

The single stupidest film that I've ever seen
1 June 2008
Warning: Spoilers
The writer of this film needs to instead, write fairy tales. This was a nice long 101-minute waste of my time, a waste of the crew's time, a waste of my own money, and a waste of space on the shelves at Blockbuster. If I could rate this a zero, for worthless waste, I would. This was by-far the dumbest movie I've ever seen. This was worse than "Friday the 13th".

The acting was pretty decent, I must say. You had to be a good actor not to laugh and show frustration in a movie like this one. So you have... a crew of whatevers going to Alaska to investigate some oil issue/some gas coming up from the ground, and the movie spends over an hour focusing on that. Then, they start dying one-by-one, primarily by suicide. ...Um? I guess it's the gas, if there is any. That's my best bet, but it was unclear.

Ending, you have these ghost-like figures that only a selected few could see, and of course these figures weren't friendly. ...Where the hell did the figures come in? What does that have ANYTHING to do with ANYTHING? I took this film, smashed the disk, and destroyed the case. It angers me that stupidity like this is allowed in the film business.

Salvage (2006)

It's similar to "High Tension", but better.
18 February 2008
Warning: Spoilers
It is difficult to follow this film, but it's not nearly-impossible, like "High Tension" was. "Salvage" tells the tale of a stressed young woman, Claire, who, unknown to her, is slowly losing her grip on reality. She is murdered by an unknown man, and suddenly wakes up again where her nightmare began.

It seems that Claire may have finally gone insane, or she might just be in Hell. It's up to viewers to decide, but one thing's for sure- no matter how fast Claire runs away, the nightmare runs faster as she re-lives it again and again.

I personally thought that this film was incredibly similar to "High Tension", but less confusing. It's a true psychological test, I suppose, but the whole thing is LOADED with fun, suspense, and excitement throughout, without forcing you to watch it 50-million times just to figure out the ending.

Probably one of the most exciting space movies
18 February 2008
What's an exciting trip to space without some pleas to Huston? As the problems continue to increase, the tension begins to soar. I think I had been sweating bullets already, only through less than half of the movie.

This was probably the film that got me interested into the planets and our solar system in general. Sure, it's fiction, but adrenaline flowing throughout the film set an incredibly-exciting two hours. For the first time in a while, a film is exciting at every corner and not just the climax.

I'd recommend this to anyone in love with space.

It makes you wonder what might be out there looking down at us...

Route 666 (2001)

An Interesting Idea
2 February 2008
Well I haven't really come across something like this before. "Route 666" tells the story of a cop and his buddies who retrieve a witness meant to testify in L.A. However, while on their way, aside from a group of men wanting to kill the witness, they attempt a supposed shortcut just off of Route 66, which inevitably spells death.

Along this road lies a secret hidden for years. A small chain-gang that had, several years before, been in an "accident" lie dead in a small graveyard just along-side this road. Their spirits still walk among those roads and those who dare step out onto the road shall meet with these wrath of these long-dead criminals. In addition to that, a secret connection lies between one of the gang members and a certain traveler...

If you have nothing else to do and you're in for a good "B" movie, take a look at this one. It has its faults and some of the effects aren't up to par with the 21st century exactly, but it's still worth a look.

Bleed (2002 Video)

Typical Slasher
19 August 2007
This film seems no different from the old films such as "Halloween" and "Scream", so I'm not giving it too much credit, but it was decently put together- not nearly as stupid as the title makes it sound. As usual, mysterious deaths occur until only a small group of teens remain as they attempt to discover who the stalker/killer is.

I'd say that this film actually has quite a bit in common with the original "Scream", minus the big unseen storyline. If you took out the connection between Sidney and the masked killer in "Scream", you'd have "Bleed".

It's worth a shot if you're absolutely dying of boredom.

Wonderfully Exquisite
15 July 2007
This sequel to "28 Days Later" delivers more and more than it's predecessor, but also certainly fills in several gaps in the original. The disease has been contained, but only for a short time as the disease makes it to the "clean" side of the country, and all Hell breaks loose once again.

The main character, after being chased away by the infected, is kept safe until an unexpected visitor arrives from the infected area. The disease is back, and this time, it might just call for extermination.

"28 Weeks Later" is an incredible film, and delivers so many emotions that not many, (if any) other zombie films can even begin to compete with.

Just as Strong
10 July 2007
The sequel to "Jurassic Park" remained just as strong as the others. Selfish human desires once again led to destruction and "chaos", (as Dr. Malcom would so-arrogantly call it), and the dinosaurs run loose, once again. However, this all begins on an island away from the first- one without restraints on the animals, and one with an astoundingly steady rate of life and death.

In an attempt to study the creatures and bring back proof of the animals' content back to society, Dr. Ian Malcom, and several other scientists set out to the island to record the animals' behaviors. Unfortunately, another group of people have already arrived. -A group with intents of only money-making. -A group that sets the stage for another dangerous time around the dinosaurs.

I remember anxiously awaiting this when I was about six years old... and seven. Even since then, when now I can fully comprehend both stories, I still love it and find it an extraordinarily powerful Science Fiction film that is absolute MUST for all fans of it.

Weaker than the first, but Stronger than the second
10 July 2007
"Jurassic Park III" tells the continued story of the second island in which Dr. Hamond had brought his dream to life by genetically bringing dinosaurs to life with intentions of creating the most incredible theme park in the entire world.

Here, Dr. Grant takes a trip to the second island with an allegedly-rich couple in attempt to retrieve their son who has been stranded there for several weeks. When their only way out has been terminated by the newest, biggest dinosaur, they are thrown into an uncontrolled environment with uncontrolled creatures, with only skeletal-digger Alan Grant to help them, who hasn't even been to that particular island, and is already fighting to stay alive amongst the nightmarish creatures that he so much once loved and was so fascinated.

This was not quite as great as the original, (but what sequel ever is?), but it was far better than the "Lost World". I saw it when I was ten, and still find it a greatly-done film, as has the entire series been thus far.

Look out for Jurassic Park IV, coming next year!

The Perfection of Sci-Fi
10 July 2007
"Jurassic Park" has got to, even today, one of the most incredibly-done, most creatively-written and directed film in the world.

It is the story of how a dream of man can indeed come true, but how sometimes accomplishing that dream can create dire and even deadly consequences.

John Hamond, a scientist, along with many others, works to extract DNA of dinosaurs from prehistoric mosquitoes, and use it to create real, living dinosaurs on a remote Island in which he intends to make the world's largest money-making tourist-attraction. However, first, he must obtain the approval of three other scientists, two of which are fossil-diggers, as well as a particular lawyer that is concerned about the stability of the Island, in order to make a release to the public.

At first, it seems like a fortune burning to be had. -A perfect, and absolutely mesmerizing procedure and organization. However, the scientists know that nature itself cannot be contained, and suggest that John might just be biting off far more than anyone could ever chew.

What happens next is beyond anyone's horrible imagination, as the dinosaurs and nature make an incredible come-back at mankind, breaking free and roaming the Island uncontrolled. With all of the power out, it looks as if there is no hope for survival. Now, the visitors, and John, must fight for their lives. -Or die trying I saw this movie when I was three years old. Ever since then, it has been my favorite Science Fiction film of all time. You cannot deny that this will always be one of the most memorable films that the world has ever known.

Quite Good!
8 July 2007
The only thing that I'm not incredibly fond of in this film is the lack of any real excitement. But, then-again, this is an old, old movie, and I'm sure it was scary as Hell back then.

Rosemary, an innocent, newly-married woman, is raped by the devil while in the meantime trying to have a child with her actual husband. When Rosemary becomes pregnant, it is uncertain to us who's baby she's carrying is up until the very end.

This really is very similar to "The Omen", but as we know, this is the more original as the Omen series was made long after this.

I will say, though- those eyes and that conspiracy are the scariest elements in this film!

Final... A more Modern-Day Amityville -And the Final!
7 July 2007
This one, (the last one), really has it's quirks- seriously.

This film consists of all of the right ingredients of a modern horror flick: Sex, lies, drama, horror, fantasy, suspense, terror, and "lots of fire" all together in bits, thrown together to make an INREDIBLE come-back for the Amityville series.

A doll-house takes the role of the terror this time, and ultimately leads to the final confrontation, and the final ending of the Amityville saga.

The series has lived long, and has gone out with a big BANG as a wonderful 90's flick.

This is a good one, folks. Make no mistake.

About as good as 3-D
7 July 2007
This one is probably one of the better sequels, and though it doesn't really live up to the classic standards, it sure packs a punch.

Unlike the fourth and seventh and eighth sequels, this one delivers far more suspense, though a lot of it is typical and expected, such as the declining sanity of the buyer of anything related to Amityville. But it's well-done/well-put-together, and the idea of an Amityville-possessed clock is far more ominous than a stupid lamp, mirror, or a doll-house, you've got to admit.

It even has some real gore thrown in there... what a surprise... Also, this is the first Amityville that really relies on lies, cons and deceits of people and how things like that can tear families and attachments into shreds.

It's a decent sequel, I suppose.

Barely better than "The Amityville Curse"
7 July 2007
Not a good one. -Not at all.

This installment revolves around a descent of the original murderer inside the Amityville home who must face his past to rid himself of the nightmarish terror of Amityville itself.

It's basically nothing. My bet is that this film was made for some extra fast-cash to buy a boat or something... because this one's just ridiculous... Thankfully, it doesn't kill or ruin the series, but it just has no effect on the series at all.

I'd have to say that just the fact that it is constantly referenced to the old, infamous house is probably the only thing that makes this one slightly more bearable than "The Amityville Curse".

The Amityville Curse (1990 Video)

You'd have to be a real hard-core fan.
7 July 2007
This is most definitely the worst of the series, given the fact that it has almost nothing to do with Amityville... As a matter-of-fact, I can't remember anything that reminded me of the real horror of Amityville throughout the entire movie, except for two small things: The very ending, of course.

The ending contains a possession, and a similar run of the very original story of the dangers of the actual home in Amityville. That's probably, really, the only part of the film REALLY worth seeing.

The second, is just personal to me, but I've always had my attention stolen from any news of anyone hanging dead. That is by far the scariest way to die to me- a hanging. Therefore, this immediately got my curiosity.

Other than that, though... ...worthless.

Not Great, but Okay...
7 July 2007
The Baxters decide to buy the infamous house for a dirt-cheap price. No surprise there. Afterwards, what happens? Well, by now, you know the drill.

There is probably two things that I found VERY exciting about the film and one decent thing. Everything else was either bland or not good at all.

The first, and most exciting to me was the ending and what the results are to the family and the house itself. A wonderful ending, but it certainly limits possibilities for the other sequels, as it is well-known.

The second is the demon usage of the film. It is briefly shown, but the point of this film is to express the thought of a demon in control of the house. Though it wasn't spectacularly-done, it was bearable.

The side-thing was the amount of suspense, and the score for this film. It wasn't incredible, but it was above average, I'll say that much.

Not Bad
7 July 2007
Warning: Spoilers
This fourth entry to the Amityville series has it's new ones, but it's also got it's old, which makes the film just somewhat predictable and typical.

From the very beginning, the horror of the house is in an uproar, when six priests arrive and try to defeat it themselves. But, what was that? Wasn't the house burned to the ground in the third film? Exactly...

But the fact that they threw in a deadly battle between Evil and Holy right from the start seriously deserves some credit. It's probably got the best opening to it than most other horror films, much less the remainder of the series...

If there's one thing that I'd say was absolutely unnecessary was the very final shot of the film. There was absolutely no point to it. None at all. I wish they could've thought of something else at least if they HAD to give you that "Uh-oh- it's back" feeling at the end.

Decent Enough
7 July 2007
This film... eh... I saw it when I was about twelve, and at the time, I absolutely loved it. It wasn't my favorite, but it was pretty darn unique to me. Now, however, I find it pretty good, but I'm not liking it quite as much compared to some of the more modern haunted-house flicks, and I'm an old-fashioned person, so that's saying something.

The acting isn't perfect, and it does take some time to actually move along, and on top of that, it isn't very exciting when you get right down into it unless you've never seen a haunted-house film or at least very few.

I suppose what's really nice about it is the idea of how the Amityville horror became what it is, or is believed by many to be. Also, how the suspense and dramatic feelings for the characters grow throughout the movie all the way up until the end is quite admirable.

So I say it's certainly a good film. It's not the best, but it IS a horror classic of the late 70's/early 80's, and I'm sure it will continue to be.

Probably more Enjoyable than the Original
7 July 2007
The prequel to "The Amityville Horror" tells the second "true" story of the Amityville Curse- the one that took place before-hand. -Before the original, that is.

Personally, I thought that this one was quite nicely done. It didn't take nearly as long to get up on it's feet and moving, and it even had some truly horrific occurrences within the film.

However, though people have said that they believe the film should have ended as the priest saw the ghost within the house, I believe that the ending should have happened as the son was arrested and claimed not to remember a thing. I think that would have made this movie far scarier and more wondrous, but hey- that's just my opinion.

But I DO say it's still a good movie. It's a nicely-done, roughly-accurate view of the first terror within the walls of the beautiful, yet infamous Long Island home.

Not NEARLY as good as the original, however: Linda Blair's return is much appreciated. It could've been worse. They could've hired some stupid replacement out of desperate actions, which would've ruined the trilogy all-together.

Second, although the plot is rather... bland; not so baroque or decorated, the way they dish it out is okay enough. It took me quite a while to watch the whole thing straight through without falling asleep, though, I'll admit.

What I personally claim, as a musician, and what I really examine in films, regardless of how pointless, is the music in it. In this case, the main theme of this is absolutely beautiful, and I believe that they deserve some credit for that.

Very Strong, but Very Long
4 July 2007
I agree with "miss thing"'s comment on this title- you all simply aren't staying awake long enough- you're not being patient enough to catch all of the surprise endings in here.

The biggest dramatic area and scariest part of this film, to me, is the final exorcism performed. All of the loose ends of the first film, (and second, in some ways), are completely wrapped up, thankfully by the EXACT same director/writer as the original Exorcist.

This film DOES take a while to get up and running, but if you've seen the first film(s), you should've seen that coming and should've probably taken some energy gum to help yourself with handling that.

Anyway, this puts a terrific ending to the trilogy, and will also be one of the scariest, most memorable films that William Petter Blatty has ever made.

The Exorcist (1973)
10/10
One of the Scariest Films of All Time
4 July 2007
This has to be one of the most well-known horror films, one of the highest-rated, and obviously a classic.

"The Exorcist" is exactly what the title implies. A demon has possessed a young girl in Georgetown, and two priests are set with the job of exorcising her after experiencing the horrifying proof of the demonic presence in the young girl, Ragen McMeil. (Linda Blair)

This has got to be one of the most dramatic and saddening horror films that I've ever seen, and it's got to be one of the very best. In the religious area of horror style, it probably IS the very best, and is likely to be for years to come.

Cujo (1983)
7/10
Average, but it's got it's twists and surprises.
2 July 2007
"Cujo" is based on the novel by Stephen King, one of the greatest writers of horror in history. It takes place in a small, quiet, peaceful town. One of the town's beloved dogs, named Cujo, contracts rabies from a bite to the nose from a bat, and from there, the townspeople's lives become more embedded in fear as Cujo's last days approach.

I thought that this movie was pretty good, but I don't think it holds perfection and/or any REAL jolts and shocks. It's certainly emotional, if you're a dog-lover, but otherwise it doesn't supply us with that much feeling to it. It's a mellow, typical film. It was unique in it's time, but there's not much to expect from it now.

I haven't been able to figure out the reason behind the dog's extreme rage. Was it a demonic possession? Or was it simply the disease? Given the writer of the book, it's not as easy to figure out.

Saw III (2006)

This could be the PERFECT Trilogy...
30 June 2007
This installment to the original "Saw", once again written and directed by James Wann and Leigh Whannell, I find to be one of the scariest, and yet one of the most creative and most intelligent horror films ever made.

In this, two test subjects are taken by Jigsaw and his new "companion", Amanda. The duo puts these two subjects through the uttermost difficult tests both physically and emotionally, while also slowly revealing the long-hidden reason behind the two subjects' capture.

I would've given this film a full 10/10, had it not been for an unclear ending. This could very easily wrap up one of the best trilogies ever made. However- it could also, in my opinion, be completely ruined by adding yet another sequel. The legendary story of Jigsaw would be completely corrupted if another was made. If you see it, you may very well agree.

These three films are WONDERFUL together. But is this the end? Is this going to be the concluding chapter of what could be one of the most successful trilogies of all time? It'd probably be best that way, but, of course, it's very rare. Well, I guess we'll all just have to sit back, wait, and see.

Saw II (2005)
8/10
Just as Strong
30 June 2007
"Saw II", in my opinion, was performed just as strongly, or possibly more so, than the original. The situation involves more people, and tighter situations, which also holds more suspense and thrill to the film.

An entire police force catches Jigsaw after one of his murderous games, but the accompanying detective is not at all aware of the surprises that Jigsaw has in store for him, or that his intention was to be tracked down and caught. Now, detective Matthews is stuck in a much larger, much more complicated, much more creative game of Jigsaw's, which in the end proves to be an immensely enjoyable surprise for everyone, as it, as the original, turns everywhere you'd never expect.

My full respect and my full commendations to Leigh Whannell for this wonderful sequel to his own masterpiece. You can't find things like these very often.
