Daredevil (2015)
A Dark and Compelling Series
This series truly stands out as a remarkable gem in the realm of superhero narratives. Amidst varied opinions, I found immense pleasure in its narrative richness. Daredevil's character is meticulously crafted, inviting viewers on a journey of profound evolution, fostering deep empathy not only for him but also for the diverse ensemble cast. Marvel takes a bold leap from its traditional light-heartedness, delving into the shadows with gritty realism. Daredevil embodies a complex dichotomy; his dual personas, whether in costume or not, are masterfully depicted, weaving a captivating narrative tapestry with each episode. The series doesn't shy away from darkness; instead, it embraces it, delivering a raw, unfiltered portrayal of a vigilante's crusade. With its dark tones, visceral action, and poignant character development, Daredevil emerges as a poignant exploration of heroism in the face of moral ambiguity. In essence, it's a gripping tale that transcends the confines of traditional superhero storytelling, leaving a lasting impact on those who dare to venture into its captivating world.
Samaritan (2022)
Stallone makes up for a lacking story
I'm sure the first criticism of this film will surely be, for everyone, against Stallone. Personally, however, I really enjoyed his performance. The film begins well and sees two boys with powers being hated for it, so much so that they generate fear in the town where they live. The locals will burn down their house, killing their parents. The twins will react differently: One will seek revenge against the people who did this to them, while the other will show the world that justice is the right choice and will help everyone. Samaritan the good one, Nemesis the bad one. This is how it is told at the beginning of the film, until in a final confrontation the two will blow up a factory that will kill both of them. A child is then introduced who reading the comic books of his favorite superhero, precisely Samaritan, will be on a constant quest to find him still alive and will do so deluding himself not a few times. The character of Stallone will then be introduced who, now old and tired, will show his strength to help the child; this will completely change the story. The film suddenly takes a very action turn, the special effects are excellent and Stallone with his presence definitely enriches the film. Too bad about the story, which is far too predictable. There will be no real epic moments but only trivial moments artfully recreated. Overall I liked the film, not a masterpiece but a good pastime. In my opinion the weak point lies in the story itself, which did not tell itself well as the film evolved. Too bad.
Idiocracy (2006)
Demented and hilarious. Deliberately superficial
Hilarious, intentionally stupid and demented film. The actors are convincing in a surreal setting where human stupidity is explained and shown the best this story could tell. It is not a challenging film; it is not a film that wants to make a mark. It is likeable, meant to be a pastime for those who enjoy demented humor. The plot is simple, straightforward and effective: An average soldier, average in every way, deliberately chosen for this characteristic of being in the middle, is frozen for a top-secret experiment. A prostitute will also be chosen to save on the budget, and both, to have no emotional or parental ties, will be perfect guinea pigs for a year of freezing. Thus it begins, because of the military's contacts with the prostitute's "pimp," the program will be eleminated and all staff who knew about it jailed. The two poor guinea pigs will be forgotten and left hundreds of years abandoned while the world falls apart. Smart people will not have children, aware of the responsibilities and costs involved. Idiots, on the other hand, will expand their families, an offspring of people with low IQs growing out of all proportion leading mankind to regress mentally and not even be able to formulate complex speeches and use complicated words.
Our protagonist will awaken in a world now far from the one he remembered and turn out to be the smartest person in existence.
