Scenes from a Marriage (2021)
Incredible acting, tad slow
The acting in this tv show is some of the best acting I have ever seen. You can feel the chemistry between Chastain and Isaac, it radiates through the screen. I did find the show a little slow, but the acting most of the time distracts you from this.
I think most people watching would be reminded of a relationship that they have been in that has been similar to this. Don't watch this is you're looking for a feel good show, this isn't it!
I would also really like to know why they decided to have the 'BTS' scenes before the start of each show. What was that scenes purpose and what were they trying to convey to the audience. Definitely not something I've seen before.
I was really shocked by the storyline in the last episode. Isaac's character having an affair with Chastain after he had remarried completely blindsided me.
Brand New Cherry Flavor (2021)
Not for the faint hearted
This show is unlike any other tv show I have ever seen. I found the first episode completely bizarre, I almost didn't go back to episode 2. How on earth could I finish a tv show that made me feel so queasy? If you also don't like body horror, then this show really isn't for you. But boy did I change my mind quickly! It was really hard to not fall in love with the set design and the cast. Once you get used to how gross parts of the show can be, sit back and enjoy this totally insane ride.
The set design and 90s aesthetic is beautiful. I am dreaming of Lisa's pink apartment, gorgeous! You also cannot take your eyes off of the leading actresses. Salazar and Keener are incredible! They are captivating in every scene and I couldn't get enough of either of them. I actually didn't want this show to end because I was enjoying it so much towards the end. There were a few plot holes here and there, but they didn't bother me at all. Would recommend this one.
The Irregulars (2021)
Boring Characters
There is nothing to like about this show. I am really over watching TV shows with dull two dimensional characters. Bea has absolutely no personality, I can't work out whether it was the way the character was written, or the actress playing her. It was painful to watch. Her only motivation is to protect her sister, and because she has no charm or any sort of redeeming quality, it's really hard to continue to care about her storyline. Not a single actor on this show brought any spark to their characters, they were all so flat and boring. I wanted to like this show so much, but it fell short. Netflix made the right decision to to cancel this.
Colin in Black and White (2021)
Important Message, Clunky Storytelling
The message throughout the show about race is a very important one. I really appreciate the scenes where Colin showed us how he experienced racism in his day to day life whilst growing up. It's really important to show these situations/experiences to a wider audience. I only hope that the right people were watching this.
I did however have a major issue with how this story was told. It was pretty clunky and felt like a mess. The way that Colin was presenting to the audience in between scenes was strange, I've not seen anything like it before, and I think that that is for good reason. During the last two episodes I did find Colin to be a little too earnest and I hate to even say this but very 'why me'. Am I a bad person for thinking that?
I also can't imagine his parents being happy with how they were portrayed. Yikes, that one would have hurt.
Big Shot (2021)
Don't bother watching this
I love a young adult show, but this one ain't it. I didn't care for a single character or storyline. Terrible plot and very predictable. There was no chemistry between any of the actors, especially the ones that were supposed to have sexual or a romantic chemistry with each other. I always love a queer storyline in a TV show, but this one felt really forced and I didn't believe the chemistry or relationship at all between the two actresses. It felt like they added this storyline in to tick a box unfortunately. I can't believe they're making a second season of this, save yourself and don't bother watching.
