Botev (2022)
Maxim Genchev... just disappear, bro!
2/10 AT MAXIMUM! The only reason I don't rate it 1/10 is because of the great work of Deyan Zhekov who really tried his best and gave his heart to the production. The costumes and music were also good, but the rest...
Most of the actors had no idea what 'acting' means. Most scenes were cringe, a lot of stuff did not make sense, the story is poorly shown, the battles were abysmal. None of the characters had any build-up, things just 'happened'. Btw, no one knows how Botev exactly died, yet Genchev decided to re-write history. Absolutely unacceptable.
You have to forbid this pro-russian proxy Maxim Genchev. It is obvious that he did not learn from the failed production of Levski and yet it was decided it is a good idea to give him another great Bulgarian historical character like Botev who he literally killed as well.
Oh, and by the way, the absolutely WORST actor of them all is... guess what? The director's son - Matey Genchev as Nikola Obretenov. I am speechless.
Amsterdam (2022)
From cast crew hype to extreme disappointment!
Having all those great actors gathered together for this movie gave me the reason to think that both the cast and the script will be incredible. Oh, such a lie to myself... The movie is full with random things happening out of nowhere and the director probably thought "Aight, this scene is too empty, let me throw another character in who says some random stupid thing and changes the whole idea and logic of the scene". Those incredible actors weren't given much freedom to show full their potential. Most of the time it felt like they are just saying their lines and that's it. But that is not their fault but rather director's. Adding this to the blunt jokes and badly covered story, Amsterdam is an absolute disaster for me.
At first, I gave this movie 5 stars out of respect to the great cast as I assume they saw more in the story than I did. But for me it was straight up boring and felt like eternity. At least I had pop-corn.
3 stars for the wasted potential to be one of the best movies of all time.
