The Fall Guy (2024)
Unexpectedly Funny and Entertaining
I had only seen briefly teasers and trailers online so when my sister asked me to see it I didn't go in with high expectations. What I got was a funny, beautifully shot, well made flick that made me laugh out loud way more than I normally do. Great cast, Ryan Gosling is always good but between his Ken and now this role he finally won me over. He was so funny and adorable. Him being the stunt guy made it more believable when he did stunt things vs movies where the regular guy can do these crazy things. It was cute, there were some jokes that really made me burst out laughing, the chemistry was great, and I left in a really good mood. Is it a perfect movie? An award winner or in my top 5 faves? No, but it's super fun and light and I will def watch again and walked away feeling positive. A win for me. 8 out of 10, go watch it.
Saltburn (2023)
Good movie, Pretentious viewers give low ratings
I was excited to see this but after so many bad reviews and people saying they hated it or wasted their lives watching it I was disappointed and skipped it. Finally last night I watched it and it's a great movie. I kept saying wth is going on, why is he doing that, and trying to see their intentions as it went on but in a very good way. I liked watching the evolution of the plot and how it grew darker as it went on. How the original intention of the characters shifted and evolved and plans were formulated based on the introduction of the characters. The actors did a great job, the characters were interesting and fleshed out, the cinematography was beautiful, and I have to see it again to catch what I missed. Barry and Jacob did a great job as the typical rich boy poor boy narrative, the unrequited love, the friends that think he doesn't belong their because of status, the rich intrigued by someone real and not bored, rich, and spoiled. None of that was new in movie tropes but it was done well and believably. So many emptions and conflicted feelings inbthe characters. I enjoyed it a lot. 8/10.
Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd (2003)
It's Pretty Funny and 10x Funnier than the Newest Sequal
It's goofy fun. 1st time I watched it I was like this is so dumb OMG. Then I saw it one night with a group of friends crashing on my couch and we busted up the whole time. It's light, it's funny, and the actors reaaaallly put themselves out there. It's not amazing, it's not the best thing at all but it is entertaining. I think people like to hate because parts of it are cringe and weird which is what they were aiming for. The plot is dumb, the characters are charicatures, it's lots of physical humor. It's funny because this was Even Steven's Era and Shia LeBouf was the straight mammon this. I remember it throwing me off he was a goofball, just a nerd. It's how Harry and Floyd met, whay did you expect?
Don't Worry Darling (2022)
Good Movie, Don't Let Drama Ruin It
Just watched the movie, I really enjoyed it and am bummed I skipped it because everyone said how horrible it was. Not bad at all. Good acting, beautiful cinematography, and a cool premise. A little predictable but still very good. It is def a story that has been told before but so are so many other films and it has its own twists and such. I do feel like it was missing something, just a little extra to make it spectacular but all in all it was still very good. Florence Pugh is awesome in everything she does and so gorgeous and Harry Styles is also gorgeous so there is that. Watch it, go into it with an open mind and leave the onset drama and offended viewers out of it.
The Black Phone (2021)
Decent and Entertaining Horror/Supernatural Flick
There was emotion, there was a good plot, the characters were good, and I enjoyed all the sub plots. The acting was good, the feel and ascetic were great, there were a few small things that could have made this flick a 9 or 10 but to be fair how often do we get that from a horror movie? Some people complained there wasn't a reveal as to the Grabbers back story. I think if they had mentioned he was a bad boy or spent a lot of time in that basement because if his dad or something it would have tied in better. Also complaints his van was parked outside, but the only hint they recieved that there was a black van involved came from a girl who dreamt it. It wasn't police or public knowledge. I wish a little more was shown of the boys abductions and what happened to them but really that's it. You don't need a reveal of how Gwen got her psychic powers, it says she got them from her mom. Do we really need a back story on that? I assume her brother had it too since he recieved the calls when no one else could hear the phone ringing. Someone else commented if you removed the sister, police, and brother from the story it wouldn't have changed a thing but thank goodness they were there. Can you imagine how boring that story would have been and unrealistic to have no one searching? People complaining what was the point of a psychic sister? Again, it set up yhe brother having some of that gift and allowing the plot of the dead phone ringing to make sense. Also he needed to save himself or else what was the purpose if the ghosts helping him? Whatever, it's good, go into it open and just enjoy it. Not a blockbuster but not a bust either.
Lightyear (2022)
Excellent Movie About a Space Man, Not a toy.
Went into this ready to be completely disappointed due to bad reviews. Whatever! It was so good. I went with 2 families and every kid and parent liked it too. The people complaining are just upset it has nothing to do with the Toy Story movies. It's like making a movie about your kid playing with his favorite Star Wars and Indiana Jones toys, then seeing Star Wars and being mad Indiana Jones wasn't in it. Uh ya, it's not about the toys! Also it is super hard to compete with childhood nostalgia and iur connection to our childhoods.
Possible Spoilers****
Okay, this movie is about so many things. Being too prideful, not letting people in, not trusting people, obsession with completing a job/mission, what we lose in working too hard, that anyone can be a hero no matter age, race, orientation, gender, how clumsy we are, that we dont fit a sterotype. None of it matters! And honestly sometimes the bad guy isn't that bad, just an old man trying to get home (Zurg) or stay home (The Captain). Lastly the biggest one of all is that our mistakes sometimes lead to great things, and sometimes the life we thought we would have or wanted goes a different direction and those outcomes shouldn't be dismissed. Their is joy and a whole life still even if it wasn't the path you thought you were on. Lightyear made my kid happy, his cat made me happy, the storyline was original and awesome and the cinematography was beautiful. Don't be so quick to dismiss the story. Does it feel like a movie character some kid would obsess over and collect toys of? No. But my kid jumped in the car and hugged his Buzz toy lying on the seat. And that says a lot.
April Fool's Day (1986)
Hidden 80s Horror Gem
I absolutley love this movie Great cast, clever script, fun easy watch that doesn't drag. I like the twists, the thriller aspect and it reminds me of a Nightmare Hall/Chris Pike book from my childhood. A really good intro to horror movies for younger teens and the easily scared. Everytime I show it someone they love it. Light, good time, and characters I like. Enjoy.
The Croods: A New Age (2020)
Entertaining, Fun, Far from Perfect but Awesome
My 3 yr old saw it at the druve in and became insta obsessed. He is almost 4 now and it came out on DVD recently, bought it for him and he watched it multiple times a day. Great cast, cute story, I adore that the girls in this are bffs and not pitted against eachother. I enjoyed it and it is a great kids movie without being stupid so adults can enjoy it as well.
Ginny & Georgia (2021)
Entertaining. Season 2 please.
Enjoyed the show, love the cast and Ginny and Marcus have real chemistry. Here's hoping for a season 2!
The Broken Hearts Gallery (2020)
6 out of 10
It was cute, nice new plot, decent cast though the bffs were annoying af. Lead did well though she tried too hard sometimes and a few scenes were supes cringe but overall enjoyed and went in knowing it WAS a rom-com so they get a pass on some stuff. My hubs and I enjoyed it with only a few eye rolls but no lol. Alright, cute, and entertaining but not one to rewatch.
Mars Needs Moms (2011)
3 Year Old Approved
My son loves it. Has a decent plot, family oriented so it tugs at the little ones heartstrings. Serious movie but my 3 year old requests to watch it constantly and it is a nice break form Frozen and Moana.
Ghostbusters (2016)
Great for Kids: Gateway flick to 80s Classics
So as an adult who grew up on the originals I was super disappointed with this film. It was brighter colored, faster, the characters quirky but unrealistic and unfortunately since I was sooo biased I judged it way harder than I would of had it been an original flick and not based off of an treasured favorite. Having said that I have a 3 yr old I began introducing to classics last yr. He would get bored whenever I put on Ghostbusters 1 or 2, he couldn't pay attention. My brother in law gave us this one and it totally grabbed his attention. He LOVES it and asks to watch it all the time! My friends kids do too, I see kids on youtube and such loving it. Now I can get him to watch the older ones and he likes em alright but still loves this one. It was lighter and catered to him more. So after having seen it 20 times it has grown on me, though I still wouldnt seek it out. It is a great gateway to 80s movies. Start with this and lead them into other stuff. 6 of of 10.
War of the Worlds (2005)
Light, Easy, Fun, and Entertaining
Saw this in the theater when I was 23. I still really enjoy it. It is fun, entertaining, has funny moments and scary tripods. I think they did a great job. Ya it's crazy this dude seems to know everything. He knows how to fix the car, he figures out how to blow up the tripod, he saves his daughter and they escape, he figures out the shields are down and none of the thousands of troops notice until he points it out... but I love tht he is an anti hero. He is sloppy, messy, selfish even and his character grows through the film. His goal goes from Ingotta sace myself, come along to I will dow hat it takes to save my child. I keep it on in the background when I clean, home alone, bored, etc. It is fun and I love it.
The Boy Who Loved Trolls (1984)
I finally found it!
I saw this movie as a little girl. I was 2 when it was made so it was on TV until I was about 7. It included everything from bad guys to mermaids and trolls. It's funny because its a movie basically about growing up, this kid is holding on to magic and being a kid but at the same time it is telling you to believe and keep yourself young at heart. I don't quiet remember everything only because I was so young but from what I do it was amazing. See it if you can, great film, great fun. I have spent years looking for this movie and finally bought it off ebay. Little cheesier than I remember lol but it still rocks. Finding this was like finding an old friend.
Roswell (1999)
Great Show
I love love love this show! William, the guy that wrote the comments before me, he was totally right. I too often think about the show, where it is headed, what it would be like to feel like certain people on that show. But I do disagree with one thing, I do not think the best relationship is Max and Liz, I like Mike and Maria best (even though they r, ya know right now) and before that it was all Izzy and Alex. Even when he died and just followed her around they were the best, the show makes you laugh, makes you mad, makes you cry and leaves you numb. It is just an awesome show and I hope that others agree when I say here is a show where the writers really know what they r doing :) Watch it people!!!
