Gunpowder Milkshake (2021)
I don't see the reason for the hate, personally
I'll admit, I really don't understand the "world" or reality they live in. I don't feel they did really anything at all to explain it, which is disappointing and raises a lot of questions throughout watching, especially the first bit. That being said, I though it was pretty enjoyable overall, I mean we need more movies about bad*ss women. I mean the plot itself made sense, the acting was obviously amazing, and it's shot well. I kinda wish there was or maybe there will be, some sort of prequel, kind of an explanation into this reality, maybe more of Sam's childhood after her dads murder but before her mom leaves. I feel it's a good movie with potential to be something amazing, I just don't think they had the time to convey the full picture and that's where it falls short. I feel if this was a book it'd be loved, and would make sense as a two part movie or something. Don't think it's a waste of time tho, a fun movie with awesome women.
Murder in the Bayou (2019)
really good but frustrating at times
I thought it was made well and it's very emotionally compelling. My main point of anger was when Ricky says something about how he highly doubts any cop in the state would assist in a cover up. I mean first, of course you'd say that as the sheriff potentially covering something up, why is your word enough? And second that's just factually incorrect. Louisiana is know for having a bad issue with police corruption and malpractice, a problem they are still fixing to this day. It's literal fact, Louisiana is just recently seeing results from starting to reform. Hell even when he was interviewed it was a known fact Louisiana had issues with corrupt police offices and were attempting to fix it. You as the sheriff being all sweaty and shifty and acting like it's ridiculous to insinuate that there could be a cover up in Louisiana? I mean shut up.
Scream (2022)
I liked it but I don't like sam
I'm sorry, but I just don't enjoy sam and it makes me a bit nervous that she's seemingly taking Sidney's place. I just feel like she's not a great actress especially when her sister is played by Jenna Ortega. She just gets outshined in every scene with Jenna. I just had a hard time rooting for her, she isn't close to Sidney, for me at least. I feel bad, but I'm kinda rooting for Jenna to be the lead and for sam to be done after scream 6... she's just the only thing i really didn't enjoy and now that they killed Dewey (wasn't a fan of that either) and Sidney isn't in scream 6 I'm not sure I trust that she can carry the scream franchise. Gale can, but after Dewey I'm scared she's next. I dunno, I don't wanna hate on the actress, as I obviously don't know her, I just wasn't a fan personally. Excited but nervous for scream 6 and any possible future installments.
The Final Girls (2015)
be prepared to cry if you lost your mom young
I really wasn't expecting to cry so much during this movie, but I definitely cried a couple times. I lost my mom when I was 15, and some of the scenes with max and "Nancy" went straight to my heart. Taissa does a really good job conveying this feeling. I don't always love horror comedies but this one was good. I kinda wish it was a limited series or something because I'd honestly be down to see the "sequel" at the end. Either way it's a really enjoyable movie, I think my mom would've loved it, definitely something we'd watch together. I'd highly recommend, great cast too. The bloopers during the end credits are really funny.
Black Mirror: The National Anthem (2011)
absolutely no
I avoided black mirror like the plague after this episode. I was warned about it but omg no. I love pigs and this episode made me throw up and cry. I'm finally watching black mirror again but I'm nervous they're gonna pull something like this again. I didn't even care for the story apart from that. It was boring and then upsetting. Weird way to open a season let alone a way to start a show. This episode is permanently burned in my brain and as I said it was boring throughout anyway so it's not like there's anything worth remembering. I haven't been huge on a lot of black mirror episodes so far, not really living up to the hype at all in my opinion. But this episode is something I wish never happened.
Deadhouse Dark (2020)
boring, not scary, and doesn't make a lot of sense IMO
This show has decent reviews, especially on shudder so I figured I'd try it as I'm out of horror shows and movies. That being said, I don't see the hype. For the most part, the stories didn't really feel out together right, like it definitely could just be me, but most of them didn't even make much sense when they ended. ESPECIALLY episode two, I genuinely don't understand what it was actually about or what actually happened. Did she jump? Was it on purpose? Was she mentally ill? There's the suicide hotline number at the end but until they showed that I didn't even know if she jumped or not or what. Like was the coach in her head or? A lot of people like the first episode, it was fine but I would've preferred it not be in the found footage style as it made it harder to see and follow and didn't actually add a ton. The third and fourth also ended with me feeling like "okay? I still don't understand" episode five just straight out confused me. Episode six was, okay I guess. The bathroom scene was disgusting and made no sense...if she's dying she likely hasn't had a period in years so why there was red blood makes no sense and there would be maggots. The pee in the bottles doesn't make the most sense either as peeing in a water bottle as a female is essentially the same as pissing on the ground. I don't get what was killing the woman either, it seems like congestive heart failure or lung failure but what was up with the skin on her face? And how did the health department let this health aid come into a house that likely needs to be condemned due to how nasty it is? That place could be why the lady is dying? Maybe I'm too medically aware of things for this one to work. Either way I'm still a bit overall confused on what the "scary" storyline was, as again nothing was set up or explained for me to feel anything other than puzzled. I was assuming this show would be decent, like two sentence horror stories, not terrifyingly but kinda eerie and spooky like a creepypasta, but I was just bored and confused the whole time. None of the episodes made sense by the end of them, and not in a good mysterious way, in a what was the point kinda way. I honestly wouldn't recommend this to anyone, there's better horror shorts on YouTube, like lots, that are wayyyy better than any one of these. I'll say the acting was at least good which stopped me from just turning it off, but just not for me.
Slasher (2016)
definitely a show that gets better imo
Personally I'd recommend just skipping the first season, i really didn't enjoy it and the later seasons are overall better. Season two is good with some eh acting. I quite liked season 3, i really wasn't expecting Jen & Conner. I enjoyed season 4 too, flora was a little too annoying for me to deal but other than that again I didn't expect Dr trihn. I feel like each season the acting gets better and the storyline comes together better. I have mixed emotions about the switch from Netflix to shudder, both have put out some garbage and both have put out some great content. I'm hoping shudder will continue it in the direction of improving with season 5 :)
Channel Zero (2016)
don't watch if you're wanting actual creepypasta retellings
This show honestly really disappointed me. The reviews were good, the horror vlogs I watch recommended it, but it just fell kinda flat for me. I mean for starters; they aren't making the creepypastas for tv, they're taking the themes and doing whatever the hell they want. Season 1 did a decent job of following the actual story and then making it into something crazy, but I found it quite boring. Season 2, I honestly hated. The no end house story isn't followed whatsoever, different amount of rooms, there's exits all the sudden, the rooms aren't what they are in the story, or even anything close. The only decent scene are in the physical house which are few and far between. Then once they get into the house "world" or whatever it just dragssss on. Season 3 was paced better, but still rough. They didn't even keep the actual premise of the story and did whatever they wanted from the beginning. And then they end it with little to no explanations. Like who was the weird meat/guts/flesh guy that's in every episode but never explained? The lead, Alice, was kinda just annoying. The more I think about this season the less sense it makes. Season 4 started out like they were gonna follow the story with some differences, then they just made it weird. Like the baby scene is unnecessary and adds literally nothing other than a reason for Tom to go outside. Ian eating the burgers made me unbelievably nauseous. And the dream seizures or whatever to create the doors just made me laugh. I get that part of art is your own perception of it, but that's part of why this bothered me. Creepypastas are literally set up to start creepy, and let you're mind wander. Instead of following what they did season one, following the real story, then going onto making it their own crazy story, they just took concepts and morphed them into whatever they wanted. Seems misleading to put out that the show is based of these stories when honestly they just aren't, they're weird copies. If you hadn't known the stories, if they hadn't put the names, and acted like it was creepypasta retellings, you wouldn't even know that's what they were based on other than season 1. They took some of my favorite stories and just didn't really do anything with them, didn't even retell them. Maybe had they put "lightly based on" I'd be less annoyed? Just feels like I was lied to almost, I kept watching hoping they tell the ACTUAL stories before going down their own rabbit hole, but nope :/
some really good acting, some weird cgi here and there but overall it's made well, just misleading in my opinion.
Tragedy Girls (2017)
a fine movie but so problematic
The movie itself was made well and the acting was fine. I just think we're just living in a time where you have to be very careful in the way the theme is used. I get it's meant as satire but the whole "killing to become famous" theme is way too scary real nowadays. It gave everything kind of a cringy vibe to me. Like there's nothing and no one to root for in this you just watch what happen. I mean look at podcasts like morbid that frequently make jokes of victims and/or their victims. This is a real thing happening way to often and we need to adjust what we put out in media. I know scream started this plot theme, but at least they end with the heroine cussing out the villain for how ridiculous killing for fame is before they kill they. In this they just get to keep being killers for fame at the end.
The Hunt (2020)
I liked it till they killed the piglet
I'm definitely biased as pigs are my favorite animal, but it was just an unnecessary kill that made me wanna turn it off. I really liked it until then. The lead female is a badass and hella funny. It's a pretty interesting concept overall, hunger games mixed with the purge almost but current issues. Honestly all the men were kind of annoying on some level, could've lived without them. Again, maybe I'm just biased, but killing the pig was unnecessary and it felt like it was supposed to be funny but it made me cry. Could've done literally anything else and i wouldn't have any real complaints. I'm not a fan of any animals dying in movies but this scene being set up as "funny" or whatever just put a bad feeling in me the rest of the movie.
Chambers (2019)
SO much better than I was expecting
I'll be honest, I went in with pretty low expectations. The reviews seemed okay and the premise seemed like it'd be hit or miss. Maybe it's because I went in with low expectations, but i really enjoyed it. It's a little slow the first episode, and due to a personal situation I had a bit of a hard time getting through it. But by episode four I felt really pulled in, I thought I was 6 episodes deep. By the time I got to episode 6 I knew I had to stay up and finish it all. I especially loved the episodes by ti west. And all the little details like Becky's birthmark forming on Sasha's cheek. Pretty disappointed that Netflix yet again ruined a good thing by canceling the show. They left the show with a ton of unanswered questions, what about frank? Does Sasha actually have bad in her still or can she heal? Why did they lock up Nancy and what did her note mean? Wtf is annex tryna do with Lilith? How many people are actually involved?? I mean wtf happened at the end?? At first I thought they'd wrap it up and it'd be a good one season but then they left a lot of things untied. Really disappointed bc i really enjoyed it but now there's never gonna be any answers.

Netflix really sucks for this
This show was really well done and put together. And then Netflix ruined everything by leaving you on a cliffhanger and then not renewing the show for season 2. So as good as the show is, you're definitely left kind of disappointed. I would've loved a season 2 to see if melody, Bobbi, and mark could get Dan back, and maybe learn more about this dimension. But nooooooo Netflix decided to invest in other bs originals that aren't half as good as this one. Especially since this could've been a perfect 2 season show. It has potential to tell more of a story and sadly Netflix cut that off. It really makes Netflix originals overall frustrating for me. They're normally either really good or awful and maybe if they stopped funding stupid fads, they'd be able to put out more quality like this.
Devil in Ohio (2022)
not bad, not amazing
I liked it, not the best show by any means but not bad. Wasn't a big fan of Helen, she felt kinda irrelevant and was a little annoying, not the best actress. Similarly, Peter felt sorta of irrelevant too, just there to add tension and the Windermere fire connection. I like the relationship between Mae and Jules. Could have tried to be more realistic with the whole satanic symbolism as it's inaccurate. It works being in ohio, I'm from there and there's definitely still satanic panic in some parts. Go in with low expectations and it's really not a bad show, Netflix and other sites have definitely over hyped it but overall wasn't awful.
Chucky (2021)
everyone who's complaining obviously hasn't seen child's play
The point is that it's dumb and funny and impossible. I mean, it's a doll for god's sake!! B movie acting is normal, the ridiculousness is normal. It's funny seeing a tiny dolls legs flailing while it overpowers a grown man. It's a really well made, funny, enjoyable, show. I could do without some of the teen drama, but the ridiculous gore makes up for it. If you've seen child's play-seed of chucky you'll enjoy it. It's silly and stupid, in true chucky fashion. My favorite is that you get to see tiffany, Glen and Glenda!!! All the negative reviews feel like that have to be from people who don't watch chucky films, I think it fits perfectly.
