Walking Tall (2004)
Solid action film
Hard to believe this movie is 20 years old, but it's still a solid action film. Has hints of Road House, but Dwayne Johnson's character, Chris Vaughn, isn't trying to maintain his zen like Patrick Swayze's character. This protagonist wants to take the crime out of his hometown that his old high school nemesis, Jay Hamilton (Neal McDonough) has put in and he is going to do it 4x4. The negatives for this movies: His high school best friend, Ray Templeton (Johnny Knoxville) is going to be there to help, but he doesn't really seem to do the side-kick bit as well as some other supporting actors could have done. They threw in a quick high school romance rekindled that could have been left out. The positives: Dwayne Johnson playing the good-guy takes matters into his own hands always never gets old. If you like fights scenes and justice-will-prevail movies, then pop some popcorn and enjoy this movie.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians (2023)
Great tv series!
This is good adaptation from the book. If you are a Rick Riordan fan then you will be pleased as this tv series exceeded expectations especially in comparison to the movie. The kids are charming in their portrayal as forbidden children. Virginia does an excellent job portraying Sally who struggles at raising of very special son with very little guidance.
This is a very family-friendly TV series that engaged both my children and myself every week. I do think this could have been stretched to 9 episodes in order to give more of a backstory of those who are not knowledgeable on Greek mythology
and explain a bit more of Luke's relationship with Percy. I hope that a second series will be made soon with the mighty trio portrayed by Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, and Aryan Simhadri.
The Hip Hop Nutcracker (2022)
Modern spin to a classic!
Very family friendly! I really appreciated the hip hop revision in this remake. The modern interpretation was not over the top and they clearly put so much effort into the choreography. Kudos to all of the dancers!! The extrinsic violin was amazing. Comfort Fedoke Is fantastic and makes a wonderful toy maker. I loved seeing the ballet taken to a new height and energy level. My only complaint was the rapping style of Joseph Simmons aka Run. His old school vocals should be left in the 80's which was clearly not the decade being portrayed in this movie. Hip Hop Nutcracker is a refreshing mash-up of old & new on a 130 old classic ballet. It's a must see!
