Dracula 2000 (2000)
Worthy plot twists
***SPOILERS***SPOILERS***
I pick up any new vampire movie that comes out at blockbuster. I was especially interested in this one because it had Danny Masterson from That 70's Show in it, also Gerard Butler from Timeline as Dracula. You will see some similarities between this and other Dracula story lines, but a lot of new and inventive twists. There is just enough of everything in this movie (except Danny Masterson)like fight scenes, gore, dialogue... the production value is great. I really enjoyed the entire movie and the ending is creative.
If you've seen Timeline you'll want to watch this for Gerard Butler, if not, see it, too.
Igby Goes Down (2002)
You must watch the whole thing to "get it"...
If you are easily turned off by profanity and rampant drug use, this film is not for you. However, if you can look past that and want a truly unique and troubling story, watch this movie. Kieran Culkin is by far the best actor in this family and you get to see his range in this movie. It is also fraught with famous actors around every corner, Bill Pullman is very disturbing and ***SPOILER***
Susan Sarandon's character had an apt ending. This is probably not a movie you want to watch over and over but definitely worth a view but not for the faint-hearted.
I Love You, I Love You Not (1996)
Jude & Claire look great, but so what...
I was attracted to this movie because I like Claire Danes and Jude Law. I saw another Jude Law picture,Music From Another Room, and hoped it would be a splendid surprise as it was. I was intrigued by the relationship of Daisy and her grandmother, they were fun to watch together. But the rest was all a blur. We are thrown into a tumultuous situation without any facts and are supposed to figure out what is going on and at the same time care about the characters. You are supposed to have ill feelings about Daisy's parents when you see them all of 2 seconds at the beginning of the film. As an intellectual watch it was okay, but don't rent it for fun or to see either of the main stars, it's not worth it.
Last Orders (2001)
Worth a watch to see JJ Feild
As an American I'm afraid I missed a lot about what this movie had to say. It was interesting and visually pleasant, but hard to make out what everyone was saying and even when you could, you might not know what it means. The only reason I rented this was to see JJ Feild in his biggest part since Jack and the Beanstalk (another young Jack) and he was beautiful, worth the rent.
Mind Rage (1996)
The twist at the end is worth watching the whole movie
I bought this off e-bay because I am a Dennis Christopher fan. He is not in it as much as I would like but the movie as a whole is good. The writers lead you one way and then the other and you go right along with them, then at the end, they get you.
You probably can't find it at your mainline video places, but keep an eye out for it, it is worth the rental.
