The Disappearance of Toby Blackwood (2022)
This movie is hysterical!
I heard about this from Dan Cummins on the Timesuck podcast, he said he made a cameo, and I immediately knew I had to watch it. The gist of it is that these people are in quarantine, a guy they used to know has found youtube fame making conspiracy/prepper videos, and now he's missing. They interview a bunch of unhinged maniacs to find clues about where he is and those interactions were probably my favorite part of the movie. They had some big actors make appearances and my wife especially got a kick out of seeing Winston from New Girl. I assumed that the front end would be loaded with humor and then it would slow down and have a less amusing second half but that wasn't the case. They do eventually figure out where Toby is and that whole scene is amazing. It was a solid story with laughs throughout, and most of all, it was an original idea. There isn't anything else I can think of like this and I appreciated that. My primary takeaway; buy a urine filtration system! Watch the movie and it will make sense.
Forged in Fire: Knife or Death (2018)
It might be ok on mute
My biggest issue with the show by far is the inclusion of Bill Goldberg and Captain Obvious Tu Lam. Lam will routinely make shockingly dumb statements like "if your knife breaks, you won't be able to continue the competition" that give me pause because he's not adding anything of value to the show but they thought it was a good idea to pay him to be there. Goldberg is almost worse because this guy has to yell about everything and gives people a hard time for struggling with the competition but his background is fake wrestling so maybe he should shut up. How much of their budget did they spend to get those two guys to host? Maybe if they had taken former FIF winners and had them host, it wouldn't be as bad. You know, people that may actually offer informed commentary. Also, maybe it was just me but there were a lot of contestants in the first season that didn't even seem remotely qualified to be on the show but I guess they had to take what they could get. Having Travis from FIF was one of the only positive things about the show and if you watch it on mute aside from his segment, you might have a chance at enjoying this.
