Excellent movie
6 May 2002
Amelio and Enrico lo Verso compenetrate perfectly. I believe is one of the most humanistic movies I have seen in a long time. The performance of the actors is great and the story is simple but very powerful. There is beautiful line that can be seen how the Enrico and the kids gel along the, movie and it is very interesting.

As another person said and I agree, it is one of the best child performances I have ever seen. Excellent.

Another excellent movie by Tornatore
28 April 2002
Magical, simple and funny and sad. Tornatore can do pretty much everything he wants with a movie. SO far all the movies I have seen directed by him are simply excellent. When watching the movie I will pay close attention to the long acts and way the camera moves. What a perception and style of directing!!

Movie/Documentary
28 April 2002
Amelio stile of directing amazes me everytime more and more. A powerful movie, being very realistic and documentary. Once again, Enrico Lo Verso acting and leading the movie is great. This movie was filmed few years after the government was overthrown and I consider AMelio to be brave with this theme and from my understanding he reflected what happened in a realistic way.

Mastroianni!!!

Another excellent movie with an excellent actor and also an excellent director! This movie is not lacking anything. The theme is excellent and the way he approaches the truth, every son he visits he gets closer and closer........Tornatore's excellence. I have not seen "cinema paraiso" but this movie is definitely is a touching movie where 'everybody is fine' just to make one person fine. Can lying sometimes even for the good of a person can be positive?

Maccheroni (1985)
What a couple!

Lemmon and Mastronianni...what can I say? This is an explosive mixture, one of the best European actors with one of the best American actors.... no comments. Both their roles are great and did not expect less. From the movie I was expecting a different ending although it was not disappointing it left me with the bitter taste. Good comic and drama mix of Scolla.

Emotional and funny
9 April 2002
Bread and Chocolate is a very humanistic movie that mixes funny with sadness. The way the Brusati shows us the way foreign people are welcome to Switzerland is somehow not the saddest way but in addition it has some humor. This makes the audience, like people said before, cry and laugh at the same time. It can also be based on a real person and not fictitious as people like Nino would do anything to stay in a country where they have opportunities. Excellent job for Brusati, it is the first Brusati film I have seen and I am looking forward to see another one.

concept of family
4 April 2002
Rossi touches the spectator with a movie that is part the modern Italy, being the way of living of the three brothers, and the old and more rural Italy, the lifestyle of Donato, the father. "Tre fratelli" is a melancolic piece of art, the way Donato remembers his wife and how Marta can remember him of his wife. The relationship between the three brothers is seemed to be tense due to the differences between them until Raffaele asks Rocco about his sexual life...something that always seem to break tension between brothers or friends. It is very interesting how all the adults have a dream or a memory and therefore we are told part of the story that way, such as the real fear of Nicola to be killed or the willingnes of Rocco to help the problematic kids.

Another Rossi piece of art in a simple and poetic way.

Umberto D. (1952)
life of an old man:sad
21 February 2002
Umberto D is a magnificant movie of an old man who is trying to survive the hard years that Italy went through. Vittorio De Sica does an excellent job reaching to peoples heart and making us have a real and compasionate feelings for the characters, in this case Umberto D. Ferrari (also with Antonio in the Bicycle Thief). The two relationship that Umberto has during the movie, his dog and the servant, are very interesting. The last sequence of the movie (Umberto with his dog) it touches your heart. THIS is when you realized how good a director is, when the spectators heart and feelings has been 'played' with.

Many feelings
17 February 2002
Ricci!... Antonio!! ...Bruno!!! De Sica made a movie in which you could identify yourself with Antonio, with Bruno. It got to the point that you just wished he was successful at the moment he tried to steal the bicycle.

Everything happened in two days and contradicts all the movies I have seen before of that time. De Sica makes and excellent job choosing the role of Bruno and the kid makes an excellent job performing. Another outstanding point in the movie is how not only Antonio but the whole family are full of happiness with Antonios' job.

Is this movie one of the best ever? probably I heared a lot about it before seeing it so I had very high expectations. Thinking about it in a more objective way, it was an excellent movie that made you part of it.
