Heyy Babyy (2007)
Fantastic direction.
Though being an adaption of the Hollywood flick "3 Men and a little lady" , the direction of the film is a lot refreshing. Sajid Khan in his directorial debut has done a fantastic job. No where in the film do you feel any drab. He has perfectly inculcated the 20 min story ,which the western film moguls like Universal , Columbia Tristar train their directors before commencing on a film shooting. The thesis behind this 20 min story is that , before one actually gets into the main story of the film , there is always a period of 20 mins for films to run around the bush in order to settle the audience. This can perfectly be seen in the sitcoms like Friends , The Simpsons..etc who follow a 5 min story. What's more refreshing about the movie is that the assisting director has done a good job as well. Unlike some recent movies like Om Shanti Om , though the front direction was good , the main reason why people did not like the movie is because the assistant director was not good at all. The junior artists in the background portrayed very bad characters and very not directed well to do so. There are a very few films that have the co-director working equally as well as the main director . Some of the films include blockbusters like "Sarkar , Lagaan..etc".Overall the movie is worth to be seen at least once by all movie goers .And yes the baby is also cute !!!!
Back to You (2007)
Simply 'Not' Funny
The show isn't exactly doing the kind of justice to the script as it was supposed to. Its like watching another misinterpreted episode of 'married to the kellys'. The show is just pulling in audience because of the magnum star status of 'Kelsey Grammar and Patricia Heaton'. The casting of Josh Gad as the news director is as obtuse a casting can get. He simply isn't portraying the character to the full skin. Till now , i am not able to understand whether he is meant to be a loser or is he just one of the over burdened news directors. Ideally ,according to me the role was well scripted for Dave Foley , but am surprised how come the producers didn't approach him to return to his post of News Director that he depicted so convivially on 'NewsRadio'. In short Josh Gad is simply a misfit in the show. Producers , if you'll are listening to me , call Dave Foley. Kelsey Grammar is depraved of what he does best 'Rapping the dictionary'. The script writers have simply not stressed enough on language used by Kelsey in 'Frasier'. Patricia has always been a solo comedian. If you have observed carefully about her previous performance in the show ' Everybody loves Raymond', her comic capers came from her dialogs and expressions alone and not from the on screen chemistry she shared with Ray. Thats the main reason the producers should have stressed more on the office rivalry between her and Kelsey rather than the romance they are forced to do . I have always been a fan of Fred , but unfortunately in this show his comic capers are very dull. You are always forced to ask yourself ,'Oh ! was that supposed to be funny ?'; one laughs because he hears the laughter track getting activated in the background. Imagine you having a very profile luncheon with the some of the most respected people in town , and suddenly out of nowhere you hear a disturbing 'Fart!' and you ask yourself "What the hell was that ?"..this is exactly what role "Ty Burrell" is portraying in the show. His character is too fastidious to bring in any ratings for the show.
Again, a casting error. Andy dick or even 'Alfonso' from 'The fresh Prince of Bel Air ' fame could have depicted it well. Apart from highly tanned skin show 'Ayda Field' doesn't have anything much to offer to the show. But , the show shares some good ideas which could have well been directed. The theme is good and shows a good run if well nurtured (unfortunately it isn't). If the show keeps up with the above flaws , i really doubt the show might even see the dawn of light of the second season.
Mumbai Salsa (2007)
Just Pathetic !!!!!!!!!
This is just an awful and pedantic put parody of 'FRIENDS' , have seen in years. I had attended Vir Das's stand up once , where he was sure of a good stage career , but his big screen and silver screen image is just bland with jokes that really don't get you anywhere. His big screen debut was no better . May be he should stick to his career as a touring stand up as his show on CNBC isn't getting him anywhere. The world's number one Condiment 'Salsa' proved to be a bland affair with lack of characterization and skimpy modeling . I don't say the movie concept was bad but , they could have maybe let the idea of 'Free friendship' grow to its essence among the majority of the Indian public. OK , where does this review leave the actresses and actors .Well , they show tremendous promise but have to work a lot on their skills and natural deliveries .I have no doubt in mind that they could be some day very good actors.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007)
Among the best this year !!!!!
The Pedagogue of comedy has yet come again with a psychological thriller. One of the 2 main movies releasing in the week, this one is a clear winner.
Set on the scenario of an NRI (Shiny)returning to India after some years along with Vidya Balan, they encounter some strange notions that villagers follow in their hometown. Shiny , determined to find the true reason of the extra normal activities, he calls in his friend , akshay kumar, who deals with such paranormal activities.
To add to this mystic they are presented with a caution to enter in a particular room which has remained closed for ever so long and sole cause of the activities.
Priyan has by far given true justice to the script , and perfected the art of 'Thriller film making'. It isn't the kind of comedy that you normally expect from Priyan, but the overall well presented, but the comedy scenes do see to be too verbose.
This film is a true treat for the philanderers of the Akshay-Priyan-Paresh combo.
