The Beekeeper (2024)
Lots of thrills but Verona Parker is overloads of cringe
I knew I wasn't the only one who said this but just completely remove that Verona Parker character and that changes the whole movie.
The Beekeeper runs on almost the same vein as with Extraction and John Wick but Jason Statham's brand of action just delivers differently.
The 'baddies' really moved my wife with their effective acting and the action sequences are oftentimes predictable yet the fight scenes are enjoyable.
It's a good depiction of how spoiled and entitled children can really be menacing when they grow old and it's a good reminder to be always vigilant and cautious of all those phishing activities.
It's worth a second watch.
Meg 2: The Trench (2023)
At least they have Curtis and Statham
Just awfully plotted. Action scenes were okay. CGI is sometimes cartoonish. One thing that annoys me the most is the kid's bad acting. Just really out of place and brings out so much cringe. The movie lacks a good amount of humor and a lot of heart. It's good thing to note that I was persuaded by my son to watch this movie. I wasn't really intending to watch it as I've seen the trailer and thought it was dry. Well I was damn right! It was funny to see how there was less focus on the megs being so dangerous. After all, this film is leaning towards saving the environment and how spilling chemicals in the ocean impacts marine wildlife. Let's move on.
Hachi: A Dog's Tale (2009)
This movie proves you have a heart
While I'm not really into watching drama or family films, Hachi - A Dog's Tale, is something that I really put in high regard.
Top-billed by Richard Gere and supported by capable actors, this simplistic film has so much life. It can very well be compared to other pet/animal-featured movies but the affection showed between Hachi and the cast will move you. The movie's pace is not really dragging but for immature viewers, it may require a bit of patience. There are lots of very light and fun moments and it builds up to something that will really break even the toughest of all men. I've watched Hachi about three times in between long gaps, probably years but its appeal hasn't waned. This is very highly recommended.
Jologs (2002)
Just another Filipino coming-of-age film
Twenty-one years ago and Star Cinema released yet another project starring ABS-CBN's most promising young talent at the time. The movie is divided into different story segments with the characters being directly or indirectly involved with one another. Praises go to performances of Assunta Da Rossi and Baron Geisler who portrayed unconventional roles. The film showcases what it is like to be 'jologs' or just simply being true to oneself. 'Jologs' was coined as a term which was commonly used in speech by Filipino youth even up to this day. The film was able to captivate audiences' attention to follow the featured stories but nothing remarkable in the plots. It was just another Star Cinema movie that was projected to gain cash and to help keep the youth relatable to the generation's trends at the time.
