Sly (2023)
It's a dialog with a father you never had
I'll be philosophical here. It's not a movie about Sly, it's him taking on a role of a father and talking to YOU about love, struggle, challenges and life. That's how i felt. Because he was sincere. There's no acting in this movie, it doesn't even seem like there's a script - he's just answering questions that you'd probably ask him if you were there and that gives the sense of being present there with him, listening to his stories. He's not being judgmental and he's not telling you what to do, like those pr***s on youtube. He's soft, something you don't expect at first, but because he knows he made mistakes in life and he knows his own psychology that was installed during his childhood and how hard it is to deal with it - the movie is not a lecture and it's not a "look how great i am!", it is a dialog. And i insist on using the word "dialog" because even though a dialog is a conversation between 2 people, and you're obviously not there, you still feel like you've talked and the talk made your life a little bit brighter, a little bit less nihilistic.
Trigun Stampede (2023)
Absolutely wasted opportunity
The original 1998 series had its problems, but at least it told a story! And it did so fairly well. I've watched first 2 eps of the 2023 series and i have no words to describe my disappointment. Very poor, rushed and just bad storytelling. Extremely poor character ark. Vash is portrayed as a wimp and is nothing like the original. The very first episode is cramped up with everything from character intro to freaking space incident! WTF?? We don't know the characters yet but the writers treat us as if we did and it makes it so much worse. Because we do know the original and we know the space thing and the question pops up - what's the hurry?! What is the urgency to tell the whole story in fist 10 minutes?! I can't imagine how confusing it must look to those who didn't see the original, who have no idea what the f is going on, who Vash is and what's his deal. It's just a mess. In the original we aren't even sure if he's Vash until ep 5 or something! That's how long writers took to open up the character and introduce the planet people are stuck on, which we don't know isn't even Earth until ep 15 or something like that! Here, in the very first episode the viewers are even introduced to the main villain Knives and they actually say right away that they're brothers! It's just unbearable to watch... It's like all the writers want is make action scenes - it's literally all they want. They don't give a f about the story or about Vash's emotions. The original 1998 series developed the character slowly and you could FEEL how stakes were getting higher for Vash and how the atmosphere became increasingly more serious and never was he hesitant to draw his gun on bad guys. At some point you realize you aren't watching a comedy anymore... 2023 - graphics, dumb fight scenes, absolutely feminized and stupefied Vash who gives zero fs about consequences his actions cause, and who even befriends the psychotic Nebraska family... This is BS. And there i was looking forward to this remake. Because it's such a great show! But it needed to be updated and problems of the original needed to be addressed, because there are issues, it wasn't perfect. That was the chance and the writers completely f...messed it up.
Why 2 stars? For graphics. The rest is total s**t. You even dumped Milly Thompson and changed her for some drunk, abusive dude. Great job. How will you make the romance between her and the priest going, huh? One of the biggest tragedies in the original series and she isn't even in this show...
