Upstream Color (2013)
Downstream Oblivian
I give it 5 stars for keeping my interest. At least five or six times, I was ready to stop watching it. I couldn't turn it off though, because finishing the film was much like the compulsion to look at a car accident. I just knew the film wouldn't end well, but I had to watch it. It seemed to be straight forward enough in the beginning, but then it went down the rabbit hole. A few minutes later it would start to make sense again. But just when I thought I knew what was happening, something would throw me off. As I got more and more confused and frustrated, I just got more and more determined to see it through in hopes that it would all come together somehow. I know it's cliché, but I have to say, I want my 96 minutes back.
Red Seven (2006)
Great Acting Great Film
This film drew me in with the opening dialogs. The actors facial expressions, body language and the set all seemed to be so genuine. It seemed as though I was standing in the room watching them. I also enjoyed the way the camera showed us views from angles of what I would be focusing on if I were there and part of the scenes.
Also, there was an amazing presentation of material. Normally I figure out plots in the first 30 seconds or so not, true with Red Seven. The storyline was incredibly unpredictable yet never confusing or hard to follow. This was very refreshing as I do tire of the predictable under-the-breath "I wrote them all" eye-rolling films.
I give Red Seven a big thumbs up!!!
