Nikita: Phoenix (2010)
Maggie Q Wall to Wall Bravo !!
Nikita: Phoenix , well it's about time, that more screen time has been devoted to Maggie Q. This is the edge I've been waiting to see ! Maggie pulls off the roll of a hard nosed, smooth style agent in the Phoenix perfectly, BRAVO !!!Great story line, writing, suspense, twist, heart pounding that's why I give this episode a 10 out of 10. I know its hard to stay at the peak, but keeping close to this level will bring it rewards and makes every other crime, police, action series including this falls current line up look like an afternoon soap. Maggie has Star quality and performance range (no question there) but she needs the support of innovative and creative writers to make it all come together. Great Show!!!!! ED M.
The Devil's Tomb (2009)
Pass The Vomit Bag
I rented this movie after seeing the trailer on another DVD, looked interesting, I like Sci-Fi , Cuba Gooding Jr. was an added reason to rent this movie. WOW what a Mistake, good thing it only cost me $2.99 at the local variety store down the street, but still 90 Min, of wasted time, OK I confess 60 Min. I used the fast forward on my DVD remote to finish off the last 30 min. Everything was weak, from the script, to the line delivery by the actors, to the suspense (Nil) and the set was so Pathetic, those under ground rock walls looked so fake, grade 8 kids with paper mache, glue and a spray can could have done better. There were so many cliché lines used, this could have played out to be a comedy, sadly no one to laugh. Oh the addition of Henry Rollins (The Priest), his best acting came in Johnny Mnemonic with Keanu Reeves, and that was back in 95, OMG he was terrible. THIS MOVIE STINKS!!! Plan 9 From Outer Space out shines this crap, Pass The Vomit Bag.
The Contract (2006)
Such Potential Such Emptiness
A big bowl of buttered popcorn a cold diet Pepsi, it's 8pm on a Monday night, time to escape from the day and all its stress and problems with a good DVD movie, especially with a title called The Contract and the faces of Morgan Freeman and John Cusack on the cover. Wow I'm in for a good time.... wrong !!!!. In the first 5 minutes of the film I could feel there was nothing, its a gut feeling, its a lack of making a viewer, just like in reading a book to keep going, turn the next page, there was nothing there!. After 10 minutes (I'm already looking at the time on the DVD player) and some characters establishing their presence I was bored, thoughts started crossing my mind, thinking maybe I should wash those dinner dishes in the sink, wow when that happens you know you have a stinker of a movie. I love the work of Morgan Freeman and John Cusack, and there is no doubt about their professional approach to their trade, but this movie stinks!. Weak sub actors and their portrayals, the cliché donut eating cops, dumb security officers, the back packing stock broker who will loose his license for breaking a wooden bridge, having him shot in the flick to satisfy the audiences annoyance of this nerd, give me a break, saw that coming from a mile away. And then the Stock Brokers Ex making a connection with John Cusack at the end...PLEASE !!! I couldn't wait for the end, so I could get the vacuum out and clean up the popcorn crumbs on the carpet...weak lines, weak script, weak performance. I'm so disappointed in The Contract. I could have watched John and Morgan battle it out, just between the 2 of the them in a mind game, with some kind of character development, So Much Potential
This will end up, bundled with several other moves at the video store in the discount bin for $4.99
