Ferrari (2023)

Misleading
19 March 2024
As I saw on a YouTube video, when you are told you are going to watch a movie about Enzo Ferrari, you might think it will explain where did his car obsession come from, what happened to him after his son died, what was his rivalry with Maserati about, how did he manage to make such luxurious and aspirational cars. Sadly, none of these topics are addressed in this movie.

Although he was an interesting businessman, we seldom see anything behind his success. The movie only offers us some soap opera drama.

The acting is bland and the plot line lacks development. I was expecting so much more from this and I got white disappointed.

Incredibly touching, best international film for me
12 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I cannot explain how much did I enjoy this movie.

JA Bayona was empathetic enough to give some tribute to the ones that did not make it during the flight.

This movie has a the right elements to be a top tier. It has incredible music, touching dialogues, and astonishing acting. I am sure that all the actors have a promising career away from their home countries.

Moreover, as many of the survivors said, "people die once you forget them" and this movie made sure that none of us ever forgets the ones that passed away during the accident (making Numa the main character and narrator for the whole movie).

As a Mexican, and by watching this movie in my mother tongue, I cannot explain how disappointed I felt when it did not win Best International Film.

However, I am positive that this movie has already made history and has touched the heart of millions.

Notting Hill (1999)

Cute but lacked something
5 November 2023
I watched this movie because I am currently living near Notting Hill, so I felt like I HAD to watch this movie.

It felt really cute, I think 90s RomComs will always have a special place in my heart. I just love the aesthetic from that time. The whole movie looks nice and both Hugh Grant and Jukia Roberts look stunning.

Nevertheless, I didn't feel that much chemistry between the two of them. I never saw the real spark growing, or when was the exact moment when they fell in love.

At times it felt bland and plain, with not so much "spice" in the plot. But it was OK, I liked it. Not the best 90s RomCom but it was cute.

A look into America's disparity
30 March 2023
Some time ago, I watched a documentary about people who ended up living in motels and cars past the 2008 crisis. Somebody in the comments section wrote "this was already addressed by The Florida Project". I was so intrigued that I looked for the movie right away and it's incredible how much this movie makes you feel as if you're living what the characters face everyday.

Not only does it show social inequality, but also the cleverness of kids and the struggles of single mothers in this unjust not so magical, not so charming reality.

Both Willem Dafoe and Brooklyn Prince absolutely melt your heart with their performances.
