The Trust: A Game of Greed (2024)
Don't waste your time on this
I honestly didn't get the concept of this show. Like why didn't they all choose to get the offer given to them at each point in the game? You still got to keep the money anyway even if you got voted off. And you also got to keep that portion of the money if you accepted the offer and also choose to share the money at the end?
I think it would've made more sense is if they accepted the offer to take the money from the pot they also had to pick someone to share that amount they picked with that person and then they had to leave. Like the offer was way better than sharing the money with people who could potentially vote them out.
The challenges weren't even challenging at all. They offered Julie 15k if she could convince the others to vote off one member. That was super easy especially if she already formed an alliance and Brice had confessed to being the rich person. I think it should've been if Julie could convince the entire house to vote off one member she would keep the money. Also they offered Mama Jay 10 or 20k but the catch was that she had to leave (which she accepted) since she knew she was going to be voted off next.
What was the point in trusting anyone they were all conniving. The girls were the worse at least the guys were a little more practical. All they had to do was not vote anyone off.
Anyways, why would I want to share money with complete strangers. I think as the days went on there should've been more people eliminated to up the scales.
A month away from home to be on this show is a waste of time especially if I was the first to get voted off or got voted off nearly at the end with nothing.
This was so scripted it was infuriating. I could tell who would've been voted off next super easily. These so called "reality" shows are getting more ridiculous.
Total Drama Island was a way better show than this and that was a cartoon show.
American Nightmare (2024)
I was so sad
This story takes you on a roller coaster of emotions.
At first I was like this story is too convoluted to be real.
Then I was like omg I'm losing faith in the police and their inability to believe real victims.
Then I was so upset at the police for their lack of empathy, investigative skills, and terrible assumptions, and bad judgment, that detracted them from doing their job effectively.
I was even more upset because rapes are never validated as a real crime and the rapist almost always gets a slap on the wrist from the justice system. I'm sure if Muller had not broken in to their home, stolen that mustang, and kidnapped Denise he would've just had a few months in jail and set free for just the rape crime.
Ugh our justice system is terrible. Meanwhile there's people in jail doing hard time for drug offenses.
I was crying by the end of this documentary because I felt the raw emotions from both Denise and Aaron. God blessed them with two beautiful daughters.
I hope they live a great long healthy life. I'm glad that their hope was restored with that one officer that went above and beyond to catch a serial rapist.
65 (2023)
I only watched because of Adam Driver
I was confused a bit. Did he travelled 65 million years ago or was this set 65 million years ago? If he travelled back in time I want to know why and if the time travel was supposed to be just slightly back in time and not 65 million years ago. And if this was set 65 million years ago then there was way too much technology for that time frame.
Also how was there a language barrier when it was convenient because somehow she understood at times without any prior context or signs considering that she was I believe 9 or 10 years old. Possibly if the girl was an adult rather than a child (which she didn't look like a 9 or 10 year old child) I would probably be like Okay maybe through life experiences and what not they understood, but a child COME ON.
Why was there only two types of lizard species. What happened to the other species? I mean they only encountered the savage predators and the land didn't look like it was such in bad conditions that there was a scarcity of food unless that was supposed to be implied by little itty bitty humans being the main source of food for these lizards.
Why was the main character (Adam Driver) only concerned and reminiscing about his daughter as if he didn't leave his wife behind. I know the daughter was sick however, at the beginning of the movie it looked like they were a "happy" family. The family dynamic seemed forced to me. Like it didn't seem as if he was her dad like their interaction although super brief looked odd.
The action was well done. Adam played his action role superb. Overall I would not watch it again. Not recommended for adults who love the genre as there were many plot holes and inconsistencies.
The Perfect Find (2023)
Cringe Fest but I support our black community
I saw Gabrielle Union on the front page cover and thought about the many movies she was in that were decent so I gave this a go, plus I wanted a break from all the sci-fi movies and reality tv shows I was binging.
The start of the movie was already like okay awkward with the mom conversation but I kept on. Apparently she's a big name in the fashion industry and was humiliated by her ex boyfriend publicly and she went off the grid for about a year to live with her parents.
Her mother wants her to move out. So she moves to Brooklyn and begs her "arch nemesis" for a job by insulting her and again weird but okay. She goes out to celebrate with her to a club. But then this was the start of the many red flags with the editing for me. Somehow she ends up by herself staring out the window smoking and then falling asleep standing up only to get startled by some random guy not dressed for the night. Then they engage in this awkward conversation and start making out and all I'm thinking is, that this is the ex boyfriend and they're role playing, but then she realizes he's too young and gets off from his lap and runs off to find her friends to leave what I think is an upscale club.
She goes to work and who does she meets, you guessed it the young guy who happens to be her bosses son.
Anyway after that scene more cringy things happen her boss makes her swear not to get involved with her son in a private meeting blah blah blah more cringy scenes then they get caught having oral in his moms house she gets fired obviously.
So they break up because he didn't defend her against his mom. It seems like sometime has passed because of the montage of him dragging a Christmas tree up the street. However, it looks like it's still summer because I'm 100% sure that it's cold af in New York around Christmas time.
Anyway, she leaves him a voicemail so they can meet up. While they're catching up or rather us viewers getting up to date with what thankfully awful scenes got cut off (her being a professor and him starting his own thing) then she reveals to him that she's pregnant.
Like I was trying to do the math but truly nothing in this movie made sense so it was to no surprise that the math either. Anyway he wasn't happy he throws a fit and storms off the restaurant.
Soooo, the ex boss visits her to tell her she won't abandon her grandchild like her parent did with her. Then out of nowhere he shows up to her gender reveal doc appointment and then he invites her to his mother's gala so apparently more cringy scenes gets cut off because they're back together and the movie ends.
I'm sure if you got to the end of this overview you prob thinking that this review is bad, no, trust me, the movie is not that far off either. The good thing about it was that I got to see Remy Ma and Dwayne Wade briefly. I didn't even remember the names of anyone in the movie and I just finished watching it.
I highly do not recommend watching this movie with high expectations but please support our black community.
Black Mirror: Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too (2019)
Loved the Preteen Feel of this one...
I like Miley Cirus and I liked her as Hannah Montana. Her acting feels a little forced and too rehearsed at times but I liked this episode. Tbh it's not my favorite but it's very light hearted and it can be enjoyed by many people of different age groups.
Many people were complaining of how this is the worst or Miley can act or it's like a Black Mirror version of Disney's shows. But if you know about Hannah Montana then you've watched a preteen show long enough for you to know about it and I might just say that you probably enjoyed that show not knowing you did.
However, when you're watching so many episodes of a series that is soo dark without a light hearted show then you become desensitized to many things Black Mirror offers in their episodes.
I really liked the singing and the song at the end.
I recommend this show if you're looking for something.
Black Mirror: Black Museum (2017)
Black Museum Surprise
It was very ominous and dark. I was not expecting the end. As the episode progressed the real evil was Rolo and the victims were his test experiments.
The 9/10 rating is that I'm sure there were other loopholes but the major one for me was the end with the souvenir. Rolo's face should've have been the one on the souvenir because he was a conscious to a digital image so what we saw was not Rolo.
I think this episode is by far one of my favorites because to me it wasn't predictable until the end. However, I can see how it led up to the end. Now looking back the red herring was rightly placed.
I recommend watching this episode.
Muscles & Mayhem: An Unauthorized Story of American Gladiators (2023)
Nostalgia
This docuseries was so well made. I enjoyed going down memory lane with all the gladiators. I loved that the gladiators were interviewed and the entire Muscles and Mayhem show was based on them, their experience on the American Gladiator show, how they were treated, and the real behind the scene footage and reasons of the failure of the show.
I remember when I used to watch the show when it first started and how I loved the gladiators and then by the end they were replaced and it wasn't the same anymore. I stopped watching the show when they started making the contenders the center of the show because the dynamics changed.
I'm glad that many of the gladiators were able to move on, get therapy, closure, and acceptance.
A lot of what happened to them contract and finance wise was def things that wouldn't fly by today. I'm sure their experience paved the way for many others.
I loved this docuseries and highly recommend to everyone who watched the American Gladiators back in the 90's because they would highly love and enjoy this series.
I had tears watching it.
Black Mirror: Crocodile (2017)
The Hamster is the Star Witness???? Whaaaa.....
I found hard to believe that
1. Mia had no remorse and went to live her life like nothing happened for 15 YEARS
2. Mia over powered Rob
3. In this dystopian future Mia didn't know that there's a memory retracting device used by investigators (tax dollars wouldn't even approve of it for minor accidents but for crimes I totally agree)
4. No one has opposed to this mind/memory meddling device
5. Really, Shazia would tell the police about someone not helping with an accident investigation which isn't a criminal offense and the police would actually look into it. First of all Shazia isn't even an investigator or the police. The police has like a gazillion of unsolved murders and daily crimes that they would go out of their way to investigate a fraudulent claim for a car crash. Duh that's why those cases are handled by Shazia's company.
6. Why didn't Shazia tell Mia that her significant other was blind? That's why he didn't see her when she went to the house to kill him.
7. Mia killed the baby!!!!! Like why would the writers insert that.
8. Really a hamster was the animal who testified against Mia lmao. That's preposterous however, going back to point 7 I guess the hamster had to.
9. The officers found Mia rather quickly. Considering that she wasn't at home and there must exist hella evidence aside from a hamster tinie tiny brain to recall seeing a human face. Maybe if it were a dog or an elephant in the room that would've been more believable.
Oh yeah, Was the pizza delivery van at fault or not?
Black Mirror: Hated in the Nation (2016)
Anticlimactic you say?
I liked this episode. It was well acted and written. Although it felt like it moved slow at times but I found that it helped with the intense and dark build up of the premises of the story.
I know I read many reviews that said the ending was anticlimactic and they didn't like it. However, why would you think it's okay that 387k people who were killed by one person should not seek justice. Okay I get it they were in a way bullies on the internet but everyone deserves justice.
Can you believe the cleanup of all those people? The physiological trauma of the survivors? The turmoil and aftermath of how people view technology? How are people going to trust society or the government? What happened to the rest of bees that didn't have a target????
Some of the people who used the hashtag weren't necessarily using it in the manner in which Garrett intended the bullies to use it. Because some people used the hashtag because it was trending, others used it as news reporters, some used it as clickbait like that one cop did. The first time it was used no one knew of the outcome.
Everything in life has consequences your choice of words either written or spoken (Tusk & Jo Power), being a politician (The Chancellor), being the creator of the hashtag (Garrett), being the creator of the bees (Rasmus), the officers, and being the user/voter/bully of the hashtag (387k citizens).
Pressure Cooker (2023)
Is it worth it?
I really enjoyed this show but with some caveats.
I was very happy with Robbie being the winner. I read a lot of the reviews and a lot of people were saying how unfair it was for Robbie to have won and that Mike should've been the winner.
I liked that Robbie gave us affordable home cooked fine dinning food experience. I could go back and try to recreate his meal. I also would be able to go back to his restaurant to enjoy those meals again and again.
However, with Mike's dishes if I'm not a culinary connoisseur I wouldn't be able to afford his food let alone eat it since his choice of cooking is primarily for expensive fine dining which I probably could do once or twice a year on a very special occasion.
I also think that the show lacked a host. At least to have them at the beginning of each episode or day to give viewers an overview of what happened or how each contestant feels although the confessionals was supposed to do that however, the audience was left blind at times because the house living and interacting dynamics was edited out.
I would've want to see more of the reality aspect of the show play out. We mostly got to see the cooking part which was fine but I think there should've been more episodes to see the contestant on their break days from cooking since it seemed to me that they didn't cook every day.
I think that the challenges were a little too easy in my opinion. The chefs had too much ingredients at their disposal and the pantry was full to the brim with species, herbs, vegetables, fruits, etc.
I would've rather see the chefs cook out of their comfort zone. For instance have all the chefs pick out their ingredients and prep their meal and the next day with a twist have them exchange menus and have them cook each other's meal without adding any ingredients. Or have them deconstruct a fine meal into a meal that I could cook at home or elevate a home cooked meal.
I think the one that mostly struggled was Bryan because he didn't have any professional culinary skills so I think that the producers could've have it where an episode was to showcase a chefs strength just so that the entire show was not only a fine dining cooking show.
Overall I enjoyed the show however, I wanted to see more drama and reality in the show because the show to me felt rushed. Like there was 11 contestants with only 8 episodes and two of those episodes eliminated 2 people at a time. I also felt like there were no times where the chefs had a non elimination round. Viewers were just watching a cooking show with chefs that lived together because we didn't get to see the living situation, the animosity, the drama, or the reality of what they were going through.
I think that there should've been more episodes and at least have the lowest voted plate battle it out instead of having the chefs just vote them off since I'm not sure if they even tasted each other's meal to take into consideration how the bottom chef meal tasted as well as how they lived together (which im sure was edited out for time).
I really didn't like Jeanna how she acted. It was very childish of her to lie and maneuver her way to stay which completely backfired. But I see how the show could've been super boring without having her around. I guess she added the "Reality" concept to the show since there is always that one person who likes to weasel themselves in instead of showcasing what they know.
My fav contestants were Renee, Lana, Ed, Robbie, and Bryan. They all brought something different to each meal.
The Sergei and Caroline (aka Serline) was interesting to see. I think I wanted to see more of how their alliance started.
Would I watch another season absolutely. I hope for the next season the editing improves the show is a little longer with more episodes and viewers get to know the chefs more. I enjoyed the show.
72 Dangerous Places to Live (2016)
It's bad y'all
It was bad y'all. I disliked the fact that it didn't go in order from 72 to 1. I know they were ranked by titles but maybe it made sense on paper but in execution it was way wrong. My type A personality needs structure. I would've liked a recap on the last episode of all the places from 72 to 1.
Who ranked these places? Some of the rankings didn't seem that bad like the turbine one and the top spot could've been ranked higher. I thought #3 could've been #1. That #3 spot was scary and disgusting.
The narrator mispronounced many words, the editing sucked, it was boring, and I'm not sure if this was advertising Australia or the production team disliked Australia but many of the places on this list was Australia.
This show looked like it was a whole bunch of YouTube videos meshed into a dragged out series.
Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez (2020)
Sad
I don't recommend watching this series if you like football, knew him personally, knew of the case, are a fan of his, are battling with your sexuality, know someone who has committed suicide, or you are battling with depression.
Because this documentary was really sad.
I remember this case when I was in my 20's and back then and now I still think that his sexuality had nothing to do with his actions. He's not alive to defend himself so drop that idea. Just because he asked a few questions about sexuality and that taped prison call conversation with his fiancée, doesn't make him homosexual. Curious maybe, homosexual debatable but who knows, he took that info to the grave.
There was no need for a 3 part episode because there were interviews about people who never knew him personally but were NFL players who were homosexuals explaining things that had nothing to do with the case.
I still don't know why Odin was killed and I thought that was the point to this documentary to delve into a killers mind. I still don't know why the other two men were killed or who killed them.
I'm sorry for the loss of the innocent lives and for the aftermath of pain it left the family.
After watching this it left me feeling sad for everyone and raised more questions than answers.
I think it's still too soon to bring this case up.
Designated Survivor (2016)
Why do shows do this...
So I started watching this show because it was recommended on Netflix and this is why I don't like watching series.
I really like this show but I hate how they dispose of characters like a bad breakup.
They either were a good person and got killed, a bad person who ended in bad terms with the president or any one of the main characters and got kicked out of the White House, or are a traitor that either went to jail, committed suicide, or got killed.
In every episode I'm expecting a death, a traitor, or a dismissal.
Oh and finally by season 2 episode 15 Hannah is wearing a bulletproof vest.
Fun fact Seth Wright played by Kal Penn was an actual employee of the White House.
Dance 100 (2023)
The song's could've been more diverse
I didn't like that the dancers were also the voters and judges and their votes were way off at times. Rex was a very good choreographer and was voted off because of comments from Jamal who was a hater for all he danced for. He had a negative comment for Rex when he was dancing for him and when Rex was voted off and Jamal was placed with Keenan whom he liked before, he was then hating on Keenan.
I think that the audience should also have had a say so in the voting to see popular votes or at least not have the votes on stage like that because I can see how people can be swayed from voting for another person because they don't want to be judged by the others.
Also the behind the scene comments from the dancers were unnecessary because this was not about the dancers but the choreography and choreographers.
I also didn't like that they used the same dancers over and over since they could potentially sabotage the choreography just to vote off the choreographer.
I think that the songs were too similar and so it made the dances similar as well. I think there should've been mashup songs instead of radio songs where viewers have already seen the music video of said song because I found myself singing the lyrics and not focusing on the dance.
My favorite choreographers in this order were Rex, Keenan, Brandi, Janick, Max, Rudy, Celine, & Akira. I really couldn't judge Akira fairly she left too soon.
I don't like that almost every contest show the first episode is an elimination round. Can we give them some time to take in feedback then see what they do with it after the first round.
Lastly, I didn't think only 6 episodes was enough time to get to know the contestants although I know that the show in itself was longer considering the amount of people and in the finale the dancers had to learn four different routines.
Perfect Match (2023)
Loved the ending
I enjoyed this show especially after wasting my time watching Love Island Fiji. This cast was older more mature and I recognized a few contestants from previous shows which made it more interesting for me. My favorite person was Dom and when he matched with Georgia it was the best match ever. I'm not sure why Barstool was on this show. I already knew he was flaky, fake, was only there for the free room and board (trip/vacation), and to add another reality TV show to his IG profile.
I really disliked Chase and his conniving way. I liked Francesca even though she was all over the place. I don't think she was meant to be in a serious relationship or in a show to find their perfect match. Nick and Savannah cheated themselves in the show because they were trying to be strategic in a game where strategy doesn't really work.
Although Kariselle and Joey were matched since day one, I think they had an advantage because they knew each other from before the show and they never truly had their relationship tested like many of the other contestants.
I liked how the winning couple of each game in the show got to go on a date outside of the house. I especially liked that they also picked new people to stir the pot in the house and test other relationships.
I think that there should've been an opportunity to bring in two new people to be a couple as they did at the end but way earlier because Nick and LC didn't have a chance to get to know each other.
I liked the way the voting was done at the end by each of the previous contestants who were in the house because they lived and mingled with everyone in there, however, since Netflix was releasing the show weekly maybe the audience/viewers could've voted as well.
I also liked that the main focus of the show was not the prize but to make a connection and match with someone at the end.
The Menu (2022)
Too complicated
This film started sooo good and then I got lost. I didn't understand the point to the movie and why was it so embedded with so much satire.
I had to read another person's review of The Menu to understand the point of the movie. I shouldn't have to do that to understand what was the filmmaker trying to convey.
Basically we need to go back to the basic, be ourselves, fight for what's right, don't follow the crowd be a leader, be humble, be truthful, understand your worth, you can't be a people pleaser, know your purpose, and don't lose yourself.
Oh and order a cheeseburger with American cheese take a bite and ask for a to go box and be an eater.
