Good movie but hard to believe as a true story.
16 July 2023
As a Scandinavian, I must confess that I first struggled with this movie simply because I found it hard, and still do, that this could happen in Norway. I also found it strange and suspicious that the movie was filmed in Estonia (as Norway), instead of Norway, and also that at a pre-release screening in India, the Norwegian ambassador to India Hans Jacob Frydenlund claimed the movie was "a work of fiction" that contained "a number of factual inaccuracies.

However, as a movie, as a comedy it was great, and the performance by Rani Mukerji was superb. If the story is indeed true, I certainly hope that changes have been made in Norway and within in the Child Welfare system, to prevent something like this from ever happen again.

The true horrors and reality of war
11 November 2022
I have seen the 1930 version of "All Quiet On The Western Front" and considering it was done in 1930 it was good. This version is an amazing upgrade that really brings the reality and the horrors of war home, right into your living room. The photography is truly amazing, it's not a movie that sets out to glorify war but a true anti war movie. We don't see many movies from the First or Second World War portrayed from the German perspective and I think it's good for us to see that when you're in the trenches of warfare, we're all the same, humans. To me the biggest upgrade from the 1930 version was that in this 2022 version the Germans speak German and not English something that in my opinion always takes away the authenticity of a movie.

Clark (2022)
10/10
Not often I come across something that I can easily give 10/10.
22 May 2022
I loved this Limited Series Film, and sorry to have finished it. Great, superb acting by Bill Skarsgård, I think he really enjoyed acting as Clark, he suited that role so well and looked a lot like the real Clark. All the actors were great, and everything was so well done. I grew up in Sweden, just two years older than Clark so I can relate to that era. But I went to sea at the end of 63 and settled in New Zealand at the end of 67 so missed reading about Clark Olofsson and I've always wondered how the Stockholm syndrome came about, now I know. Very Swedish, Scandinavian, this is what in Swedish I would call a real "fräck" film in so many ways. And I liked the ending, the final interview and everything that the interviewer said, it put everything in the right perspective and brought it down to earth.

Nothing wrong with the story, yet so disappointing.
25 April 2022
The reason I found this movie so disappointing is that they all spoke English, there should've only been two languages spoken, German and Russian. Some film producers don't seem to realise how important the language is. When I see soldiers in German uniforms and then hear them speaking in English, I can only see English soldiers in German uniforms. And it was the same with the Russian women, the moment they speak, I see more English soldiers but in Russian uniforms. So much of a people and their culture comes out in the language and if a film maker can't capture that, he/ she, will not capture the essence of the story.

Wow, what an emotional roller coaster ride this was!
10 October 2021
I liked this movie very much and gave it 10/10, but there were times when I became so, emotionally frustrated, the suspense and anticipations was so just so painful that it was almost unbearable. I wanted to reach in and say, hey, what are you doing! However, that demonstrates how emotionally captivating the story was.

It was so good, such an emotional roller coast ride, up and down. My real low of frustrations was after Alexis had gone back to Maddy's father, Sean and Virginia came around looking for her and brought her writing book back, Alexis was laying there (in the well), hearing Virginia but not reacting, I couldn't help but to call out, "get up, get up', so incredible frustrating. The real high for me was when Alexis, Maddy and Paula were on the beach, it was such a happy moment and from then on it was happy and I was smiling and laughing. I loved it.

Alexis's obstacles that she had to overcome were certainly not easy including the work she had to do and did with perfection and with such a great attitude and dedication to the most daunting tasks, so admirable, Alexis was such a great role model.

Very interesting to read that Paula (Andie McDowell) and Alexis (Margaret Qualley) are actually real mother and daughter and that this is the first time that they've acted together.

Stunning scenery and photography but a bizarre story.
29 August 2021
If the scenery had not been so captivating I probably wouldn't have watched the movie to the end as I found it hard to make any sense of the story but having said that I'm glad I did.

Superman Becket
18 August 2021
The fact that the movie was filmed in Greece is why I watched it in the first place and I enjoyed the beautiful filming and scenery.

The plot was a bit hard to follow and some things never really added up or made any sense. Becket, kept getting shot, stabbed, broken arm and fingers but kept on running, jumping some incredible heights and having some rough landings but still kept fighting and running. I think even Rambo would be impressed. 5/10 from me.

Out of the ordinary
25 July 2021
I liked this movie but I can see it's not for everyone but many people who're getting into their senior life, and for one reason or another, has to make some life style changes (like me). It was a beautiful movie in so many ways with beautiful scenery and beautiful people, captured. The social issues that forced many of the people portrayed to live that lifestyle was very discreetly made, but still a strong statement in the film. If we live in a city we probably all see the homeless living on the streets, Nomadland showed the ones who although in similar circumstances had choosen to live and survive a lot better and in a much more dignified way.

Like a classic western but made in 2018.
10 April 2021
I must confess I struggled a bit with it in the beginning, pretty gross and not nice to see someone in that state, getting old badly because of bad living and abuse. A bit too much on that. However, I loved the photography, it portrayed the era realistically, certainly not a spagetti western. If I hadn't known when it was made or the actors it would be easy to believe it was from the 60's or 70's. A bit slow, a bit gross but a gem as well.

This movie does not give this important man justice.
19 April 2020
I totally agree with the previous, short but to the point review, "Important man, poor film". I also thought that the sex scene, although beautiful in itself was not appropriate or necessary, in fact it felt to me more an intrusion of privacy. Sergio should've been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, even now, posthumously I think it would be very fitting for this great man of peace, independence and human rights.

Shaka Zulu (1986)

Great film, great story and some great acting
17 September 2016
I must say I was sorry when I got to the 10th and last episode of "Shaka Zulu". I totally agree with the review by njmollo, very good. The acting of Shaka by Henry Cele is really what made the movie as good as it was and I could not think of anyone else acting as Shaka after having seen Henry Cele as Shaka, it has to be the top casting and acting ever. I find it incredible disappointing that when I look up Shaka Zulu the first actors mentioned are the white English actors, not Henry Cele??? Not saying that the acting by the English was not good but certainly not superior to all the black actors who were very good, such a pleasure to watch as was the portrayal of the Zulu culture and lifestyle. Loved it.
