Howling: New Moon Rising (1995)
Great Fun for Homemade Film Fans!
Great fun! To enjoy this guilty pleasure one should know a bit its background. Clive Turner (the writer/star/editor/producer/accountant(!)/etc.) had small parts in the two previous Howling movies and attempts to tie those two in with this one. He shot this movie in Pioneertown, California, a small town built in the '30's and '40's by Gene Autry & Roy Rogers. The majority of the cast are actual townspeople, whose share their characters' names. Local musicians portrayed themselves in the music scenes. The camaraderie with the film-makers and amateur stars is obvious. Looks like everyone had a grand time making this film. This is, for me, what makes the movie enjoyable, like a traveling carnival or a small-town amusement park. Kudos to Turner & company!
7th Heaven (1996)
Worst Theme Song, Best TV Show
A welcome, refreshing, family-friendly television programme.
"7th Heaven" dramatises a nuclear family struggling to keep morals and ethics, and in clear, constructive ways illustrates the process and show examples of holding to higher standards. No here is perfect. The children are excellent examples of decent, thoughtful youth, yet they make mistakes. The parents obviously strive to give the children boundaries and discipline, yet allowing the space for their offspring to learn by experience. This show is a remarkable tool in helping each of us deal with this imperfect world, and our imperfect selves. Yet, at the same time, the writers do not proselytise, adhering to the old maxim, if you want to send a message, use the postal service.
Commander USA's Groovie Movies (1985)
Kudos, Commander!
Ah, my first taste of Hammer Horror films... my first encounter with Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff, and Lon Chaney, Jr. Thank you, Commander USA! This show was a major part of my formative years, well before I discovered Mystery Science Theater 3000. I'm now a horror writer. Go figure. If only they could bring him back!
