As good...no better than saving private Ryan
3 August 2011
This is just one of those films who's action sequences is perfectly complimented by the humanity portrayed in it. Most war films try to execute this combination of awe inspiring visuals with raw emotion but not many accomplish this in such a degree as black hawk down does. I have watched this film going into the triple digits now & still find myself astounded with every minute of it every time.

I cannot recommend this enough, only if you are completely against war films will you not find this film one of the best theatrical experiences you've ever had the experience of watching.

If you want a action packed or thought provoking film on humanity, this film delivers. Then again if you are person who have not seen this film yet, What have you been doing with your life!

Great start!...But becomes quite predictable
25 February 2011
Starting half hour really caught my attention, but as the story progresses it does become rather stale. Don't get me wrong I liked the film! The idea alone (although been done before) did keep me entertained but around half way through you can literally reel off everything that is going to happen for the rest of the film (apart from the slight twist at the end)

But there were too many unanswered questions for my liking, leaving slight holes in the story so your imagination can fill in the blanks is a great way to keep you thinking about the film afterwards! But some things were just blatantly forgotten about. What relevance was the pendent? Why did the guy turn it on in the first place? just shear curiosity? Why did he decide to stay the weekend?

These are a few bland complaints on a relatively solid film & well worth a watch! But not something you'll be keeping on your 'go to DVD' shelf!

Everything a zombie horror film should be!
23 February 2011
With the arrival of the 'hand held camera' genre at this time. Rec shows exactly how to mix suspense, atmosphere & 'jump scare' horror into a fantastic film!

I've heard some people complain that the main female character is unrealistic in her curiosity & defiance against authority, but in this film she is a young up & coming journalist, which is exactly how I believe someone of that background in that scenario would act. so i must applaud the actress for portraying this so well.

I wouldn't exactly call this a 'zombie film' per say, more of a film on isolation, feeling helpless in a normal environment. The zombie's are more of a plot filler: to reduce the characters; to move the film from one area to the next & to add suspense.

All in all a great film with hidden extra's to notice when you watch it the second time round (which you will!)
