Allied (2016)
disappointing
I really wanted to like this movie but it was horrible. An American actor acting like he's from Quebec and then pretending to be French. I couldn't understand one word Marion Cotillard said in English. There was no Chemistry btw her and Brad Pitt. Their acting was bad. The story is unrealistic. The only impressive thing was the costumes and scenery.
Dancing Arabs (2014)
original story, worth seeing.
I've lived in Israel for many years an see things from a Jewish Israeli point of view. It was interesting to see this movie about this conflicted young man. I appreciate the honesty of the script writer about the hostility many Arabs feel toward the Jews.(In Israel most Israeli arabs pretend this hostility doesn't exist)
I also liked the unexpected story line and the teens relationship with the sick boy's family. I feel like this movie needs to have a continuation. Now that he has a new identity, it would be interesting to see how his life evolves.
The only thing I didn't like was the constant discussion about his Arab identity. There are other way to show hostility, without actually repeating the same cliché.
I'll explain this to people who don't speak Hebrew: When the Arab boy first goes to the Jewish school, he has a strong accent. The kids laugh at him. Later his accent disappears and he speaks Hebrew just like other Israelis.
Efes beyahasei enosh (2014)
Hilarious scenes, but also deals with real issues.
This is one of the best Israeli films I've seen.
I loved the characters and the real portrayal of army life for women.
There was one difficult scene about suicide. It was shown in a somewhat humorous manner, but is obviously a serious problem in the IDF as in other armies.
I'll just explain this for people who haven't lived in Israel: "The Kirya" is a base located in TLV, and considered an easy service compared with being placed in a remote location. One of the girls wishes she could serve on this base.
Just a note to the actors: please create a profile with your pictures, on this site.
Californication (2007)
just like sugar in bread
Gorgeous women are infatuated by an average looking guy called Hank Moody. It just doesn't work – in real life they wouldn't look at him. It seems that the script was intended for someone who looks like David Beckham, but they settled for this unattractive actor. I think there is too much sex and swearing in the show. If the audience wants to see sex- they'll just rent a porn tape. The story is about Hank Moody who's a writer and is supposedly an intelligent person but everything that comes out of his mouth is filth. It's intriguing in the first episodes but then it feels like the writers of the show have nothing to say except have him swear and talk about sex. Having said that – there where some good scenes- like when the cop pulls him over and overhears their argument
I think this show had potential. The problem is - that the only thing they seem to be focused on is high rating by having a lot of sex scenes, just like they put sugar in bread (in the States) to satisfy your taste buds. But in reality this bread is just junk food and this show is trash.
The Listener (2009)
had potential but they screwed up
The first episode was amazing, since then it only went down hill. From a real character they turned him into a 'superhero' with that blonde police officer- who looks like a high school girl pretending to be a police officer and chasing tough guys with her tiny pistol. In the beginning he struggled with his gift and had problems at work, since he was fighting crime at the same time. Later on, the conflicts went away and he managed to multi task - besides the blonde Barbie, and why do we have to keep seeing that frozen faced x-girlfriend - doctor? If nothing will happen between the two of them-then what is her role? I wonder if they changed writers in this show or just fell asleep.
Lebanon (2009)
a real war movie
well, I speak Hebrew so it was easier for me to understand. any way, this is the most honest war movie I ever saw. In Israel every one serves in the military including the people who made this film. on the other hand in the states the movie producers usually have no idea what a war is. This movie is not about a special unit, but about regular soldiers. Soldiers that could be your next door neighbors. (if you lived in Israel). They filmed this movie from inside the tank. You see Lebanon the way the tank driver sees it. They succeeded in letting the audience feel the claustrophobic, panicky feeling of being inside a tank during a war, and of course they show what was going on in Lebanon. It's a very honest movie that shows the Israelis as victims but also the damage they cause to innocent civilians- although it's unintentional.
