Graveyard Shift (1986)
Decent vampire flick with an interesting premise but poorly edited
This was an interesting vampire flick for the premise at least. The 1980's style is great and the film is very noirish, but the pacing is a bit slow and the actual editing is too fast paced, cutting from scene to scene too quickly and leaving you wondering how people got where they were or how things ended up like they did. The score is sorta typical of the mid-late 1980's, which isn't a bad thing as most people would have you believe. The setting and style of the film reminds me of Miami Vice or even Fright Night, which was a better film in my opinion. Still, all things considered, I've seen way worse movies. All in all, worth one watch at least and not the horrible dreck that some folks on here make it out to be. Certainly not the worst movie ever done.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008)
Extremely fun and exciting animated film!
I saw a free screening on our local Army base Sunday night with my brother and a good friend of ours, and I have to say I highly enjoyed the film. The animation was very nicely done, the writing was great and the storyline for the film was fun and exciting! What more could you ask for in a Star Wars film? The acting was well done too, and no where near the corn-ball level of Episode II. The action was frenetic and moved the story along very nicely. The only drawbacks I could see was that there was no opening crawl and the theme was too short. The WWII-style opening newsreel was very cool and gave you a look into the current events of the war. All together, a worthy addition to the Star Wars canon and I'm looking very forward to the TV series this fall.
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)
A true gem of a film from a bygone era of film-making...
This is one of the most truly incredible, fantastic, heartwarming and heart-wrenching films of all time. It is the story of a little alien botanist left behind, alone on Earth until he is befriended by Elliot and his family. The film is such a heartwarming experience that almost no words can describe how it makes me feel. I hadn't seen the film in probably 20 years until tonight and everything, including the tears, came flooding back. Even thinking about it while I write this review, I still get a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes. As one reviewer has said, I will never truly grow up. I find my cynical outlook on life shattered by watching this film again. It is that much of a wonderful experience. Life-altering is one term I'd use to describe this beautiful movie, as it touches on so many things that make you want to be a kid again. If anything should be shown and broadcast into outer space, this should be the film. They never did, and never will make anything like this again. This was a once in a lifetime experience. The late 1970's and into the 1980's were filled to the brim with wonderful films for all ages such as (of course) E.T., Tron, Supergirl, the Star Trek films, Masters of the Universe, the Star Wars saga, The Monster Squad, The Last Starfighter, Explorers, the Goonies, the Indiana Jones series....so many incredible films that will fill your heart with love, adventure, adoration and the longing to experience your childhood again. Watch this film and realize all over again why this is the greatest movie ever made. I guarantee you'll be crying tears of joy as well as sadness by film's end and be left with that feeling that you've seen something so absolutely wonderful, that it only reaffirms that belief that no matter what happens, no one can ever take away the fond memories of childhood.
