Fifteen and Pregnant (1998)
Fifteen and Pregnant
What do we expect from a title as 15 and pregnant. A young girl who makes a decision that will change her life forever. We follow the life of a girl who thinks she is in love. The first love is always the one or so we think. Tiana makes a choice and ends up pregnant. When they asked her how it happened she explained that it's a sin to buy/ wear condoms and it's a sin to have sex. While religion plays a big role in society it's sad to see that kids are more willing to have sex rather than use protection. We see Tina and her boyfriend break up and how gullible she is to take him back. When he finds out she is pregnant he said he will step up and be there but he doesn't. This leaves Tina heartbroken. She was living in the fantasy that they were going to be a little happy family. What I didn't like was that because of her religion and the way her mother thinks they didn't touch up on her options. It was just she was going to have it. The father made a comment that upset Tina,":i'll be here whatever you decide". Then the parents are stressing and worrying about how they are going to financially support this child. They give her no responsibility. Meanwhile they are struggling with the fact that their teenage daughter is having a baby, they show how they are ashamed and want to keep a secret. Since they are not giving her any real responseabilty she stays thinking like a child until its time to push, only then is it becoming real. The sucky part is she has a lot to learn. The baby daddy comes to the hospital and brings his new girlfriend. The good thing is her father was there to stop him from going into the room.
He's Not Worth Dying For (2022)
Attention vs reality and consquence
This movie is very relatable because it shows how love and social media can play a role in our daily lives. There are people who are like Grace who are more in tune with the world rather than social media and there are people like Isla who live for fame. It shows real issues like how obsessed people can become when it comes down to social media and love. It shows what people are willing to do and the consequence it holds. We see how social media influences their decisions when people say comments like you have to fight for him or show her how you're better. We see how Grace turns into a person she doesnt recognize and how Isla tries and fights for her views. Both think they are doing it all for the love but is it really love?
Pregnancy Pact (2010)
Choices have consqeunces.
There is a saying that no one is really ever ready to have a baby. While that is true to an extent a young girl is never ready to have a baby. This movie follows the lives of a group of girls who made a pact to have a baby. It shows the true reality of some people out there. The educational system and sometimes families don't prepare children about being safe. Whatever the reason is whether it be religion or something else the schools and home don't speak about sex. We follow a woman who goes back to the town she grew up in and tries to seek the truth about what is going on with these girls and why there is such a high rate of pregnancies. The girls learn the hard way that it's not as "fun" being pregnant and trying to live their lives. They make poor choices that result in consequences.
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999)
The harsh reality of life
There are things out in the world that people don't really talk about. Sexual abuse is one of them. These people work hard to help the victims that have suffered because of this. Many people do not want to come forward because they are ashamed. Some rather try and forget the whole experience. Those who are brave report and tell their story. We see the difficulty through their eyes having to go over and over what happened to them. We see how sometimes even if they report it sometimes nothing comes out of it or years later the person/s responsible gets caught. We see the lives of the people who are working to investigate and how the job affects their lives. We see who they are because of what they do.
Room (2015)
A whole new world
This movie truly is a rollercoster, there is so much emotion. We see the world through the eyes of a 5 year old named Jack. For him room is all he knows and greets the world with open arm. Little does he know there is a big world out side this little 10x10 shed. MA the mother of jack was kidnapped and kept there. She does her best and truly shows a mothers love by trying to make the best of the situation. There comes a point were jack is "old enough" to know the truth but doesn't believe her. They make a plan to get out and for the first time jack opens his eyes to what the world really is. Now Jack faces the challege to focus on the plan. A new chapter is about to begin.
Your Home in Their Hands (2014)
Giving your home to a stranger
I have seen a few clips on it on tick tock and wanted to see the whole thing and i did. I have never seen a show like this. These poor people give their homes to total strangers and people who have no experience with decorating other than their own home. As I watched the episodes I was horrified at some of the work there people were allowed to do. I am wondering are the owners paying the people or does the show provide them a budget. Some of the work was horrible and I don't know if the people gave the owners money to fix it or are they suck with that until they can save for more repairs. There were very few that were happy with the outcome and only with a room or two. Def something to see if you want a reaction.
Girl in the Basement (2021)
There are truly monsters out there
I don't even know where to begin, this movie was inspired by the life of Elisabeth Fritzl. She was the girl in the basement; tourured, raped and held captive for many years. Its sicking how a father can do that to her own daughter. It's frightening how anyone can do that to anyone. The movie depicts the event so well.
There are a couple of things that I found to be crazy like how the mother and sister do not know or hear or even wonder what he was doing down there. I know there was a scene where the sister goes downstairs and sees if she can find anything and was unsuccessful. But in real life did they not wonder?
In real life she had 7 children and here in the movie she had 3 and a "misscarage". The emotion I had when i saw what he did to her was...so much anger and sadness.
What he made her do after she had the baby. No hospital, no epidural, nothing. In pain and all and still made her do things.
The hardest part for me as a mother was seeing her struggle with her kids. When they were sick I could feel the helplessness. The strong want and desire for them to see a doctor. I also felt the desperateness to make her kids happy being stuck in that basement for all those years.
I am not a fan of open ended endings. I wish they would have done more, especially since they got their freedom. There are truly monsters out there.
A Day Late and a Dollar Short (2014)
Very emtional movie
This is a good movie to watch, it has so many mixed feelings. Made me laugh and cry, a rollercoaster of emotions. They did very well with choosing the characters to portray the crazy broken family. The main character uses her knowledge as a mother to try and reconnect her family. It also shows hard topics that are hard to discuss especially when it is in the family. It shows how secrets can impact you as a person and how the choices they make matter. Everyone has issues but it should never stop anyone from asking for help. It really shows each and everyone's issues and most of them are trying to keep it to themselves.
