Barbie (2023)
There is fun to be had
Barbie is not just a stereotypical Hollywood film to celebrate the well-known brand. But it dives in deeper into more self existence, gender equality and journey of life. The messages however are understandably more female centric but still can be enjoyed and appreciated by all, barring the Mattel Company staff scenes and characters that doest not land. They are portrayed unconvincingly with nonchalant writing and takes you out of the film . The third act feels over-bloated that dips the high trajectory gear that the film was on since the start. The actors , Robbie, Gosling & Ferrera are standouts!
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023)
A Fun Ride!
Finally watched after it came out digitally. Never played the game myself , the film succeeds to entertain even the common audience.
Like the recent Shazam: Fury of Gods, the film does not take it self too seriously and explorers the new world and characters well enough to make you wanting more.
Would not mind a sequel, especially at this time when superheroes movies have started underwhelming audiences.
All actors bring their A-game and are very like-able. Actions are enjoyable . Plot is breezy albeit predictable but injects just enough amount of fun for it to be worthwhile watch! Join in for the ride.
Ponniyin Selvan: Part Two (2023)
This stays with you ...
Props to the great Mani Ratnam for not falling into the commercial tropes of indian cinema. Part two is high on emotions and feels. Background music and songs by AR Rahman are masterclass. Performances by all cast is amazing , despite the varying screen time. Special mention to Aishwarya Rai, Vikram, Jayam Ravi & Karthi.
The film is filled with amazing moments sprinkled over the breezy pace. All created masterfully with honesty, touch of realism with an artistic grasp. Goosebumps like never before! Proud to have lived in a generation that has been blessed with an indian director like Mani Ratnam. Take bow.
