Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
Wish I could give more stars
As a huge Queen fan, I have to say I was a tad bit disappointed that Roger and Brian were so careful deciding what to put in the movie as the real-life Freddie was much wilder than that. For this reason, I cannot give movie more than 7 stars, although I can understand their decision as they wanted to make the movie available to younger generations.
The movie is definitely fun to watch, with Rami doing an incredible job. However, the second part of the movie that depicts Freddie's mustache phase is something that blew me away. This is where Rami somehow morphs into Freddie. Maybe I was not too happy with the choice of the actor at first, but Rami deserved that Academy Award.
All in all, an entertaining and uplifting movie.
Amadeus (1984)
Masterpiece, plain and simple
"Amadeus" is definitely one of my personal favorites and the first movie I watched in a theater with my mom. I was very young and remember having uncontrollable bouts of giggles. Of course, the movie had some dark parts that were making me very sad, but this is also the first time I felt the bond with a movie character and getting angry for what happened to him, probably before experiencing such emotions for real people.
I believe this is one of those movies that can be watched over and over again. The acting is superb, and although you may come to hate Salieri, it is hard not to empathize with him and not to feel his embarrassment, because Mozart indeed has a fine way of getting on his nerves, and his child-like innocence is perfectly portrayed.
It is hard to believe the movie is almost 40 years old. Again, its a masterpiece.
Sa mamom (2013)
A Dysfunctional Movie
The concept of family dynamics and dysfunctionality stemming from it have been well explored, and the author wrongfully focuses on disease as the main (and perhaps the only) culprit of family dysfunction in this particular case. It is adding insult to traumatic injury, leaving no room for recovery. On the other hand, severe enmeshment, manipulation, overstepping boundaries, entitlement, betrayal of trust, and invalidation are the hallmarks of dysfunctional families and usually an implication of a more serious problem. Now, if someone wants to believe that thinking of their cousin's "budding" sexuality is somehow artistic, then this is indeed a rare Bosnian gem. I would not be surprised that the author himself believes that the movie deserves 10 stars, but we can agree to disagree, and "Berina's" opinion is equally valid.
In addition, considering Berina's peculiar looks and a very specific clothing style, I would warmly recommend examining the issue of Autism Spectrum and how it presents in female children and youth.
The Prince of Egypt (1998)
A True Gem
I was a teen when this movie first came out, and it was simply not possible for me to appreciate it the way I do today due to immaturity. I rediscovered it only recently, as a song came on my Spotify list. And I listened to one song after another and could not stop. The music is superb and will touch your very soul. The animation may not be what people are used to today, but this will always be a true classic. It is one of those uplifting stories, and you do not have to be religious (it is about Moses and the Exodus) to find it inspiring and beautiful.
Frankly, it is very hard to think of a movie today with such a number of great songs. It seems that people used to put much more effort in the past to get a well-rounded final product.
